About the author
Cheryl Potter
5 books6 followersCheryl Potter is a fiber artist and author, but is best known as the founder of Cherry Tree Hill Yarn. She has a BA from Middlebury College and an MFA from the University of Arizona.
After earning her Master of Fine Arts degree, Cheryl began dyeing yarn and designing garments an old milk house on her farm on Cherry Tree Hill in East Montpelier, Vermont.
There she was discovered by Interweave Press in 1987 and was featured that same year in Interweave Knits magazine. Since that time she has designed for all of the major knitwear publications and taught handpaint classes all over the world. She has authored numerous magazine articles, designed colorways and patterns and is the author of 6 books.
Her first book, Handpaint Country was published in 2000 and her yarn company went wholesale only that same year. Cheryl sold her farm and moved to the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, where she built the Cherry Tree Hill production facility.
Throughout the years, Cheryl’s two daughters were very involved in the company, attending shows, helping with classes and dyeing yarns. Cheryl’s oldest daughter, Jenna, started her own line of handpaints called Indie Dyer yarns. Together they starred in a DVD called The Superwash Manifesto. Cheryl’s youngest daughter, Cheyenne, is beginning her own line of yarns as well, called Princess P Paints.
For the past two years, Cheryl has been writing a knitting fantasy book, called Potluck Yarn, featuring 12 knitting witches and 21 original patterns. It will be available as an eBook from Amazon soon.
