Young and captivating Lady Pamela Taylor had a necklace of stunning sapphires-and a most perplexing problem. Who had sent her these jewels fit for a queen? How had he gotten them? What did he expect in return? Or was it all a monstrous mistake?
All Pamela knew for certain was that her sheltered life had been shattered, and a swarm of suitors had suddenly invaded her existence. There was the romantic Russian Prince Radinski, the seductive French Comte Reynaud, and the intriguing English Lord Raeburn. And above all, and most dangerous of all, there was the fabulously wealthy, handsome, and marriage-mocking Duke of Wexford, who would stop at nothing to lay his hands on Pamela's jewels-and to get what he wanted from her....
Doris Emily Hendrickson lives in Reno, Nevada, with her husband, a retired airline pilot. Of all the many places she has traveled around the world, England is her favorite, and the most natural choice as the setting for her novels. In addition to her Regency romances, she has written a Regency Reference Book.
She is also the recipient of the Romantic Times award for the Best Regency of 1993 for Elizabeth's Rake and the Colorado Romance Writers 1997 Award of Excellence for The Debonair Duke. She is a nominee for the Romantic Times Career Achievement Award for Regency Romance.
Emily also enjoys stamps and stamping, and several of her flower designs, originally created for bookmarks for her Regencies, have been made into stamps.
Many of my books were re-published in England by Robert Hale Publishing House of London. My publisher requested that I use three pseudonyms for my English hard cover books. I chose the names: Emily Hendrickson, Emily Johnson, and Emily Harland.
This was boring. The mystery was lame and not well done at all. Pamela and the Duke were possibly the dumbest amateur detectives ever. The plot was just weak and drawn out. I also got excessively tired of all the references to Pamela's "bosoms."
I could go on and on about all the plot holes, but it's just not worth it. Not one I'd recommend.
Content Romance: Clean, just kissing (and a lot of focus on her "bosom" it was almost its own character) Violence: Mild
This novel won an award so I thought I’d try it. Unfortunately, the writing style and actions of the heroine did not seem, to me at least, in keeping with the times in which the story was set. Did not finish.
3.5 stars Years and years ago I read a book by Emily Hendrickson. I loved it! I actually found it in a used bookshop and bought it because I had really enjoyed reading it before. It is hard to find books by this author. I was excited when I saw this one on Libby. It is a fun little clean romance. It has a good story. I did guess the culprit fairly early on but I enjoyed getting to the conclusion. It includes murder and jewel thieves, amateurs sleuths, and a sweet romance.
Beautiful cover artwork, I enjoy reading Regency romance books, the story seemed interesting about jewel thieves, who is stealing the jewels? The hero & heroine involved in discovery of who is the thief? And then, dull additions of meeting famous author, parties, etc., lost my interest.
