One could blame it all on the rain...For when headstrong Lady Harriet enters the barn that fateful spring afternoon, she is after nothing more than a few moments of shelter from the coming shower. Once inside, however, she finds quite a bit more than she bargained for: a curiously carved wooden box, a cat nursing a litter of newborn kittens, and an odd, yet handsome, Lord Stanhope snooping about the place. What could an encounter such as this ever come to?
Plenty, if that old wooden box contains the rare antique ivory dragon pin recently reported stolen from the estate of Baron Rothson--and even more if Lord Stanhope's brother has been accused of stealing it. Now, finding themselves together in a conundrum of sorts, the two must learn to become fast friends. And if they aren't too stubborn to realize it, they may also find themselves falling in love. A little rain never hurt anyone...
Doris Emily Hendrickson lives in Reno, Nevada, with her husband, a retired airline pilot. Of all the many places she has traveled around the world, England is her favorite, and the most natural choice as the setting for her novels. In addition to her Regency romances, she has written a Regency Reference Book.
She is also the recipient of the Romantic Times award for the Best Regency of 1993 for Elizabeth's Rake and the Colorado Romance Writers 1997 Award of Excellence for The Debonair Duke. She is a nominee for the Romantic Times Career Achievement Award for Regency Romance.
Emily also enjoys stamps and stamping, and several of her flower designs, originally created for bookmarks for her Regencies, have been made into stamps.
Many of my books were re-published in England by Robert Hale Publishing House of London. My publisher requested that I use three pseudonyms for my English hard cover books. I chose the names: Emily Hendrickson, Emily Johnson, and Emily Harland.
The Ivory Dragon is the second book by Emily Hendrickson I have read. I loved lady Harriet & lord Stanhope. I really enjoyed this book & would read it again. It's a good, clean romance.
Just finished this one. I am not an authority on Regency novels, but I would think this is a true Regency novel. The hero & heroine exchange but a couple of kisses, very chaste, and both are very aware of how they should act in mixed company. I read all kinds of books, mystery, historical romance and contemporary romance including erotica in both those genres, but this book held my interest completely, with no sexual situations whatsoever, proving that a good story is a good story, and doesn't need sex to sell it. There is a mystery attached to the tale, nothing earth-shattering, but it adds to the story, and all the characters are interesting in one way or another. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Regency romance, I would definitely read it again, it's a keeper. You will note I gave it 5 stars. When I began reviewing books here, I started comparing books with ones I'd read previously, not necessarily in the same genre, and have since realized that a book deserves to be rated on how you enjoyed it, not in comparison with something else you have read...thus the 5 stars, because I found it to be an excellent read!
A cute story, quite innocent. As an author myself, I was especially intrigued with Henderson's idea that an author sometimes has to write what a character demands of the author! " All I can do is write what they tell me." That is certainly how RUNNER came about! Marie Ann Phillip
Now I love Emily Hendrickson's books, but I had a hard time with this one, because the chain of events were so gonzo and too quick. It was a regency romance as played on the Holodeck of the Starship Enterprise, too many 'convenient' things kept happening. My suspension of disbelief was shot to xxxx. But my mom really liked it when she read it a few years back. So, in deference to her, I will say the book is good enough for a summer afternoon.
