My second favorite book mainly because of its easy to navigate setup and interesting facts. I’m pretty shocked they have it on here because I was pretty sure nobody has ever read it.
A great behemoth of information about our nation’s chief executives. Even as a presidential guru, there was a wealth of trivia I didn’t even know. This edition spans 42 presidents, going up to Bill Clinton, who had just assumed office at the time this was published in 1993. Even the more obscure presidents were devoted the proper page length, and no president was short changed.
A comprehensive look at the presidents, their entire administrations, the themes of the times, elections, opponents, the voting records, and even the congressional make-up!
Mostly a good primer on U.S. Presidents from Washington through Bush II's first term. My one complaint is that the more current the administration is, the wordier the description of people and events become. While interesting to note those people associated with a President (the V.P., spouse, parents, cabinet, Supreme Court appointees), it is in most cases extraneous to the character of the person serving (presumably) as the President.
I've followed many book about the U.S. Presidents since I was in the 2nd grade. I am now 50 years of age and by far this continuous series of updates truly lives up title. I would name this, the MOST complete book of U.S. Presidents. I strongly recommend this to all presidential history buffs out there.
I could not read all 700 pages, so I only read about the president's early lives, marriages, hobbies, quotes, and other personal matters. I found it to be a fascinating study of the lives of great Americans. Many of the presidents were born into poor circumstances and rose up out of them.
This is a very thorough book and a wonderful reference to have around. This book answers so many questions that you never even thought you had. You could do a lot of digging around and do tons and tons of research - - OR you could get this book and have all this information at your fingertips.
No I haven't really read the whole book. I am using it with my students for research. It contains alot of usful information on each president. He breaks it down in small chunks like education, childhood... This helps my students find what they are looking for.
I would say the go-to source for books about the U.S. Presidents. This continues to get updated, and rightfully so, but while William DeGregorio has since passed away, a new person has updated the series year after year. I thought DeGregorio did this the best, but it is still nice to follow along.
Great reference material and highlighted information. Would make a great textbook for a class on the Presidnents. My copy is highlighted and has plenty of my own reference notes.
Loved the layout of the book. The sub categories for each president is exactly the same. Very thorough overview of each president from Washington to Bush 43. Took forever to be but worth it.
