Karma: the consequence of all of your actions, decisions, thoughts, and emotions. According to Thomas Ashley-Farrand, karmic patterns from the past are always with you, affecting everything you do -- for better or for worse. With Mantra Meditation, you will learn how to use genuine Sanskrit mantras to balance your chakras (your body's seven spinning energy centers) to dissolve negative karma. "When you begin to chant these ancient formulas," teaches Ashley-Farrand, "the petals on your chakras begin to resonate, and they pull in spiritual energy." With Mantra Meditation -- designed as a 40-day practice or a lifelong tool -- your spiritual energy grows, your karma disperses, and your path clears to bring you everything you desire through the fusing of your own efforts and the infinite generosity of the universe. The works of Thomas Ashley-Farrand give unprecedented, detailed instruction in how to empower yourself using the techniques of the ancient sages and rishis. After many years of teaching and sharing, he has been persuaded by his friends to publish the techniques of mantra sadhana in which he was initiated over the course of decades by Eastern masters. Additionally, as we enter the new millenium, he has decided to share some of the moving experiences that he has had with spiritually advanced beings, as well as the lessons that he learned from each encounter.
I found this a very clear-eyed introduction to meditating using mantras. It begins with a short but vital introduction to the basic structure of Hindi Buddhism from which this tradition stems, what mantras are used for, and what the traditional aims of mantra meditation practice are. It then follows with a systematic approach to beginning a meditation practice with mantras, guided by a specific goal from your practice, and provides a series of mantras applicable to goals based around the four aims of practice. Finally the book lists the mantras themselves. The book includes a CD, but the ebook does not include the audio, so I am going to buy one of Ashley-Farrand's related audiobooks on Audible with the mantras on them, as it is important to say them correctly.
This book is a no-nonsense introduction to getting started working with mantras. I appreciated its simplicity. The inclusion of a CD recorded by the author takes any guesswork out of pronunciation of the mantras.
I love that there is a CD that goes with the book for all of the mantras that are written within. It makes it super easy to start using them immediately with the proper pronunciation which obviously is key.
Mantras are powerful as I have discovered over the years. The CD helps as we are Asians and the more fluent and effortless the pronunciation the better mantras 'sink in' and create tiny miracles, big or small, in everyday lives.
