S.L. Naeole has always loved the smell of books, the feel of books, and the destination that a book is guaranteed to take you. She knew from an early age that she was meant to write, to create those very same books she loved so much and vowed that one day, she would.

Now, after getting married and starting a family, she has finally made her dream come true. As the author of Falling From Grace, she's found a venue with which to allow her dreams to become the reader's, and transport them to worlds and lives where fantasy and reality blend seamlessly. With several more books in the works, including three sequels to Falling From Grace, she's hoping to give to her fans the same desire and affection for the written word that she had as a child.

S.L. Naeole writes from her home in Hawai'i, with her husband, four children, and cat by her side cheering her on and providing endless amounts of inspiration.

Her third book, Black Halo, book three in the Grace Series, is due to be released August 31st, 2010.

You have to give S.L. Naeole credit for going against the wishes and wants of her readers. I read this book three times before I decided to give it a rating. The first time I read it, I hated it. I will not hide my disappointment in the development of the character of Grace.

Without adding any spoilers, I will say that the decisions she makes at the end of the book went completely against my expectations. I was angry and unabashedly disgusted. And then I decided to read the first two books again and return to this one after reconnecting with the character that I had come to adore.

Upon my second reading of Black Halo, I came to see Grace in a new light. My anger had died down some and I was willing to give the scenario she was given a second chance. So I read it one last time on a plane trip back home. It was while above the Atlantic, in the quiet of a plane that was filled with sleeping passengers that I finally came to understand what the author was doing here.

We became attached to Grace because we could see ourselves in her and see ourselves making the same decisions she made. When she did the one thing we wouldn't she was telling us that as much as we believe that we are Grace, we are not. Grace has always described herself as different and she has been ostracized because of it and now we have proof that she is truly is. I was stunned by this revelation I had but I applaud S.L. Naeole for taking this risk. I know it has cost her fans but what she didn't was something far too many authors do to please their audience and that is go against their characters' character.

Grace made a choice that I wouldn't have made and I couldn't agree with that at first, but when taken as a whole based on who she is I agree that it was the right thing to do. It took me three readings to get to this opinion but I am glad that I finally did. Bravo, S.L. Naeole. You will get flack for this decision but you will also be recognized for your bravery and your dedication to your characters.

How flippin fantastic was this book? I use the word flippin so it was .. AWESOME!!!! OMG my favorite part about this additon to the series was definitely the amount of pages....it was an epic novel for cryng out loud. The suprises and twists with her fam. was definitely like a WTF....i mean i was 99% sure she was no ordinary person but her origins both sides was a sweet twist.... Sam... "oh my banannas"!!!!
ONLY DRAWBACK:

It makes no sense why Grace has this hickup about marriage. I mean REALLY!!! U lose someone nearly how many x's and u get another chance and your all "i'm too young" to marry the guy i love and who sacrificed himself for me....come on please don't annoy the stuffing out of faithful readers with such selfish ridiculousness that doesn't flow with the character line..... thank you lol ^^

I loved the other books in this series and was very disappointed in this one. I felt that her writing quality was not as good and got so tired of her using the word "sans." I have never been so frustrated with the direction of a book before and I read many. In fact, I've never written a review before but felt compelled to do so this time.

********Spoiler Alert***********

I was so disappointed in the direction the book took and Grace's debate about committing to Robert. She loves him enough to die for him but has SERIOUS doubts about wanting to marry him!? The logic doesn't follow. Same holds true for her choice to go to prom the day after she thinks Robert died. If my soul mate died I surely would not be worried about going to prom the next day. I also think it is highly unlikely that her dad would have been so cool about her living elsewhere for such a prolonged period and that it would not have come up when he was around Stacy or her family. Also all the revelations at the end just seemed bogus to me. I have no idea how she cried in her room for so long after Graham and never noticed her tears were like Roberts?

I was so looking forward to this books release and got it on my Kindle as soon as it was only to be left wondering what happened to the characters I'd grown to love.

I just finished this book after spending all night reading it and it is amazing. The characters don't change in S.L. Naeole's books. They grow and they grow naturally. So much goes on in this book. It is a roller coaster of emotions and events and it just grabs you from the beginning and even when you get off, you're holding on to the handles because you don't want to leave. I swear the next book can't come soon enough!

**********ADDED REVIEW STUFF**********

I was reading some of the reviews on amazon and I think I have to defend this book because yah, Grace did something that was totes WTF but when you think about it that's exactly what she would do! She is such a loyal friend that if she hadn't done it it would have been wrong! I know that people are going to get all mad at S.L. Naole for what happened but after reading her interview that she did today I gotta agree with her.

I plan on writing a more formal review later. But just have to say that this book had one of the best scenes in it that I've read in a long time. It was so heartbreaking and beautiful.

After I finished this book I went back and re-read Falling from Grace all over again.

Can't say i didn't expect this one to turn out better. I'm giving it a 3.5 because the plot thickens. Yeaaa.. it totally thickens. It's like the point of this whole series is to reveal secrets after secrets. I didn't particularly love it but i definitely don't hate it.

I didn't like the main character from the start of the series.. i didn't suddenly like her now. I'm glad that she found out about things that was hidden from her for years and that she was finally showing some backbone but, i still couldn't stand it that she still strives to be "normal" and feels like everything is all about her. There were some scenes that Robert and another person.. (uhm, Graham i think?) points out to her that she's being selfish and oh! i wanna tell them "YOU GOT THAT RIGHT BABY!". I really hope i get to like her whole personality on the last book. I think that's the only thing holding me back from fully loving these books.

Lark and Graham's relationship developed here which in my opinion, is good because at least they both found happiness in each other. It's also good because it prevents me from creating a love triangle in my head. haha.. the novel's full of complication as it is..i don't wanna add another one.

Robert hmm.. Robert oh Robert.. if i didn't know any better.. i'd say you were really patterned from another well known character. Anyway.. it's good that he gave Grace some space. I missed their internal banters, but it had to be done for Grace to realize that hey, she's really only thinking of her self. I love it that he stayed through and through. I hope what happened on the end part doesn't affect things negatively on the next book. I already got over the confusion of who's gonna kill who and what happens if they don't kill each other so i wish that i wouldn't have to deal lots of that anymore.

I am going to write this review trying to make it as spoiler free as possible. However just a warning I may have a few things in here that will give away part of the storyline.

This has been a wonderful series thus far however it still hasn’t hit the five star mark for me. I am in love with the story line of Angels however there are issues I have struggled with in each of the books. I guess my biggest problem is when I think of Angels I think they should be good and holy. In this series you deal with bad Angels as well as behaviors you wouldn’t expect from an Angel. Also I must complain that I am not a fan of the insta love with two of the secondary characters. I don’t really get their relationship and think it is odd they are suddenly married after just admitting their feelings to one another. I much prefer when it gradually happens. Now as I read on with the series they are having struggles because they don’t communicate and don’t know one another very well. Well duh I could have told you this would happen. I am at least happy the author is portraying these issues.

The author is brilliant when describing a scene and a setting. She makes you feel like you are there in the story and witnessing the events taking place. Her every details are so precise. This skill the author possesses is a wonderful one however there are times when I think the books are a bit wordy.

All in all this has been a wonderful series. The books are very long however I am glad I am reading them. I truly am a fan of Grace and Robert’s story and know I will miss them once I have completed the fourth book. For many of you who are on the fence about reading this series give it a try you won’t be disappointed especially if you are a fan of Angels.

This gets 5 stars because of the ending. It was AMAZING! Seriously it had a wonderful ending.

Anyway, at first I was cautious because the first and second book didn't really keep my attention. There were certain times I had to stop reading because I got bored. But when I started reading this it didn't take me long to get halfway through this.

Umm...I think the only thing that really bothers me about this is that Grace was born to save Robert, but Robert was there to kill Grace while Lark was there to protect her? It's kind of redundant, don't you think? Other than that though this was a good book.

As much as I hate to admit this, towards the end I was crying like a little baby, cause let's face it, no one wants the love of their life to die. Even if there were a list that said it had to happen. And for Grace it just sucks that she has to be killed. But I'm anxious to see how the end plays out. I'm hoping that they find a way around Grace's death.

And so I leave you with the conclusion that I'm going to go ahead and say read this series. It's a good series. Give it a try, you might like it.

SIGH! Well... let's start with the hardest part. It had been a while since I read the first two books, so I felt kinda clueless on a lot of the accepted parts of the story. (Like what exactly is "turning?" I remember something about becoming immortal? But this book doesn't explain that at all, and references it a LOT.) There was also a lot of backstory that could have been refreshed easily and wasn't.

On that point, let me say that there were a LOT of confusing details that were all dumped out at once. WAAAAY too much to take in all at once. Then crazy things happen and you don't really find out WHY or HOW, just TA-DA!! And you just have to accept it. It's just a lot of time to invest in a book to have the ending that it did. I guess I was disappointed.

The middle section of the book is boring, drawn out and seems kinda pointless to me.

This is another case of a story that could have been AWESOME if it wasn't self-published. A proper editing could have turned this into something amazing.

That being said, I did bawl my eyes out at one point in the book.

I've never wanted to write a book review before. I don't think I even did a single book report in school. But this book had me thinking so many different things and thinking about it when I should have been working that I had to put my thoughts down on paper and then put them on here because I know more people read this than the amazon stuff.

My first thoughts about the way this book ended was one big WTF?!! So many things happened that shocked me and so many secrets that went over my head and after I put my Kindle down for a day and did other things I started to get it. It was one of those slow build up then the holy sh*t kinda things. I never had that happen before. I reread the first two books and saw things that made me have even more holy sh*t moments and then I started laughing because I got it and I felt like a pirate who discovered some hidden treasure. When was the last time a book did THAT for you?

Black Halo continues the romantic story of Robert and Grace. Naeole has created a detailed story of angels and human that will test readers to expand their imaginations to its limits. The story continues to build in this third installment, but unfortunately seems to hit some obstacles. The flow of the previous two books were ever building and a continuous uphill mount; although in Black Halo it appears that the story hangs up on complications of an angel and human romance. While I loved the story I had to rate it slightly lower, because while the story continues to the direction of the storyline is standing still. Once the pace picks up this story will change direction with a twist that will unfold secrets and betrayals that will change the storyline in its entirety. This has set the stage for book 4, and I look for the last book to rise above all of the previous books in the series. This is a great series, and I highly recommend for paranormal romance and young adult lovers.

I really liked how it ended, I love all the romantic scenes, but...
Grace was a little bit TOO annoying. Why did she have to make a huge speech every time something important was about to happen? The first 2 times, it was ok, but then I just didn't feel like reading "I want to be normal bla bla" "Oh this is my fault, just kill me already bla bla" GOD! I just wanted to slap her. And she should be angry at Robert for being away so much, he should be furious at her for what she did. I get it, they're angels, but do something. Kick a door, I don't know. Just do something!
But if you compare that to the things we discovered, the things they did to stop fate... It was awesome! I was shocked, I really screamed while I was reaching the most exciting part of the novel. I loved it!
The three books are addictive, so I definitely recomend the saga

This is even worst than Twilight Saga. Really. I was totally tortured myself reading this series. And why oh why I still read it? (not that I read it completely, mind you, considering most of the things that told in this book (in this series) was about how much in love Grace and Robert are, that they couldn't live without each other, yada yada yada....). I think my mind was stepped out when I read it. Or maybe I am just a masochist who like to torture myself with bad stories.
Grace is soooo annoying. I feel like slapping her. A lot. Goodness. She's worst than Bella Swan (it's not that I am trying to compare this with Twilight, but really, it's bad and annoying. Or maybe it just me who feel this way toward this series, I don't know). And I thought the last series I read was bad. Oh how wrong was I. Reading this make me afraid to read another Angel stories. Sigh~

WHAT an amazing, twisted, heart wrenching, soul eating, time consuming BOOK!

O_O

I hardly put it down... The thing I loved most about Black Halo was that there were so many new twists and turns! So many surprising things you would have never guessed are revealed in this book.

EVERYTHING CHANGES!!!!!

Also, I despised this book. Especially the ending. Not so much as the last words that they said to eachother before the book ended, but more the fact of that thing STILL REMAINED! That's so upsetting, that everything's changed... and yet still the same. Still, definitely the best book I've had in a LONG TIME. It's so hard to find books as amazing as this series...

It's a shame it's ended.

I have to say that the Grace Series has totally surprised me! i stumbled through this series by searching for the next awesome series to read after Twilight and Night Huntress. Even though these series are completely different, i have to say this has been the best since Twilight in a YA series realm. The events that took place in this book gave like a whole turn and i was not able to believe my eyes while reading. I was able to feel and imagine every single description on these events and was totally surprised by them. This book kept me going through a whole day to the point that i neglected my duties at home and did not sleep a whole night until i was able to finish this book. All i have to say is that it was completely AWESOME!

Things started getting really, really tangled and weird in this book. I realize S.L. Naeole writes YA with more of an adult twist, and the book definitely proved her skill in stepping above the watered down YA novels. Although, I did find it a bit confusing and difficult at some points. Explanations for Sam and Grace's mother, Ameila, and the entering of new characters and the loss of some of the old were all very hectic, yet intriguing. I can't wait to see how this series ends, despite my woes of complication within the storyline. Maybe things are just not going "my" way and that is just selfish of me isn't it?

Beautiful!

I was a little worried at the beginning at the way the story was headed; I was worried that it was going to ruin all of the beauty that was in the first two books. I was pleasantly surprised -- it is difficult to even imagine the love that is between Grace and Robert let alone write about it so beautifully ... Bravo!

I took away a star for this one for the simple fact that I had more questions at the end of the book than I did in the beginning ... what in the world is Grace if she is neither human nor angel, nor nephilim, nor abomination ... hmmm. This is going to lead to an interesting conclusion at the end of the fourth and last book.

If you liked the last two books, you will love this one. I really loved it. Because if you are like me and think that you already figured it out, think twice because you will find that this book it has a lot of surprises that you will never expected.

That Grace feels betrayed for Robert it’s nothing compared with what destiny has reserved for her and Robert. And this time both will have to be strong enough to confront their enemy and finally find the true of what makes Grace so special.

This book definitely didn’t disappoint me, I felt a rainbow of emotions the entire book. And when I thought that anything else would happen it happened and took me by surprise.

This series continues to improve with each book. I found that I could not put this book down and read it in pretty much one sitting. I did find myself getting frustrated with it just as did the previous ones for much the same reason - this could have been shorter and just as good and most likely better with some good editing. I am looking forward to reading the final book in this series. I am also very glad that I kept reading the series even through the frustration and look forward to reading more books from Naeole.

I didn't like the way that Grace kept pushing Robert away and yet couldn't stop having thoughts of him all the time. I mean, if you really wanted to break it off with him, then push him away completely. Don't waste your time and energy pushing him away but finally relenting in the end. Bleh. Whatever.
I like how things were going in this book. The troubles that couldn't stop coming in their way. The ending was unexpected. But I love it enough not to hate it. It was brilliant, yes. Like I said, wow.

Just finished re-reading this book so that I can finally read 'Grace of Day'. Even after reading 'Black Halo' twice, I am still throughly confused. There is just too much that happens in the last 20% of this book for me to keep up with. Family secrets are revealed, a couple people go missing, and a couple other...die??? And Grace has suddenly developed the ability to cry crystals and heal herself? Sadly, I'm no longer looking forward to reading the next one.

Black Halo is outstanding without doubt the best in the Grace series so far. I really didn't see all the twist and turns coming I was shocked and found myself blew away by Grace's choices and the other secrets kept from her. I really can't wait to read book four and also really that the this series is nearly over for me.

Grace's world is thrown into chaos as she tries to find out the truth about herself, and everyone she has ever been exposed to in her life. My suggestion to those who are going to delve into this book, definatly read it slowly. Take time to absorb all the information the author gives you and digest it before you move on. You will appreciate the knowledge later on as you continue along Grace's journey. Enjoy it as much as I have!
