Rate this book
How can you have a career and a life you love, in a world which still isn't set up for you to do either of those things with ease?

This is the question investment banker, mother and prolific side-hustler, Rebecca Anderton-Davies sets out to answer in this paradigm-shifting book. Turning the outdated concept of work-life balance on its head, she has created a framework comprising a series of 'dials', which sees work and life as an ever-shifting series of components. These dials reflect where you are now, and what you need to prioritise, in alignment with your ambitions, values and goals.

Discover how to use the dials on your personal dashboard to adjust the parts of your life that most require your attention so you can knit together a rich and varied existence that works for you.

If you want to start building a life you love, on your terms - one that gives energy to your constantly evolving priorities and ambitions - the journey starts here

I'm Rebecca, also known as RAD and Somewhat RAD. I am a yoga practitioner and teacher, online community founder, author, investment banker, wife and mother.

I am thirty-something London based Brit whose yoga journey quite literally started with a bang after I was hit by a van while cycling to work in 2015. Broken bones and lots of soft tissue damage ensued and months later when I still couldn't lift my arm above my head, I turned to yoga to heal myself. I had never done any form of movement/dance/gymnastics, couldn't touch my toes or do a press-up, and was (am!) working 60+ hours a week at a desk. You can read more about this in my blog series https://somewhatradyoga.com/category/....

It's been a slow and at times tough journey, but now I have a consistent and meaningful yoga practice. My asana practice mostly now consisting of self-practice, at home with my cats, in the snippets of time I can carve out in between work and family life, especially since becoming a mother.

After spending the past 5 years sharing my yoga journey online (on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/somewhat_rad/) and truly relying on practicing independently to keep yoga as a constant in my crazy busy life, I have written everything I have learned into a book.

The Book of Yoga Self Practice is here to help you CREATE and SUSTAIN your very own fulfilling independent yoga practice.

The book grew out of a series of sold-out workshops I taught to enable people to practice yoga all by themselves. I share my own unique method of flowing creatively without a teacher, creating entire practice of any length with zero planning, and how to stay at and develop your practice over the long term. Because having a yoga practice which consistently fits into my very busy life is what truly changed it.

The book is available on Amazon (https://yoga-self-practice.com/buy_bo...) and all good UK bookshops in both eBook and print format: the eBook is being released on 23rd July 2020 and the physical book is coming on 20th August 2020.

Click to head to Amazon or across to the Yoga Self Practice website https://www.yoga-self-practice.com/book to read some of the rave reviews from the self-published version.

Further inspiration for the book came from the Instagram community I founded in 2018: Yoga Self Practice https://www.instagram.com/yogaselfpra.... I wanted a place where real people practicing their own real yoga could see themselves represented online: all body types, all races, all practice levels, all genders - which was, and sadly still is, sorely lacking online. Seeing the growth, strength and need for this community really made me realise how much people appreciated help with their practice.

This community has now grown to be bigger than my personal account, and I remain committed to holding space on Instagram for all sorts of people practicing all sorts of #yogaselfpractice in among the reality of their busy lives and wonderfully unique bodies and practices.

I adored this book. Practical, refreshing, comprehensive and empowering - it propels you forward into examining how to step into greater ownership of your life by pulling back the veil on “having it all” and dismantling the unachievable notion of “work life balance.” I particularly enjoyed the content about the “trades” we all have to make, optimizing for resilience across our lives, and recognizing that we can truly carve out space and time for things that are important to us using this new mental model. Read this if you’re looking for a boost of motivation to take back control over your life, time, and future.

Thank you for writing this book, Rebecca!!! You can feel the energy, wittiness, courage, and genuine desire to help others. Refreshing perspective from the “middle-manager” as you say, not the billionaire Joe - but, still, very very impressive professional and personal achievements that should not be taken likely. Thank you for sharing

I’ve felt sorely lacking of a true mentor in my career but the sage advice in these pages scratched that itch. Rich in topics rarely discussed openly, this book is a refreshing outlook on how we must redefine ‘work life balance’.

A refreshing read on how we can think about our lives and planning.

So nice to read something that didn’t take a binary approach but genuinely acknowledges and balances the multicoloured and multi-faceted nature of our lives.
