In a war of hearts, fates will be sealed. But in a battle of thrones, no bond may be truly unbreakable.
A COURT . . .
To reclaim her throne, Tauria leaves behind her safety to travel across courts. A marriage alliance with the prickly Prince of Olmstone could grant her the power to fight for her kingdom . . . or inspire a monarch's deadly vengeance that threatens all she holds dear.
A BOND . . .
No amount of distance can make Nik forget his desires, but caught in a torturous conflict of heart against duty, he's at risk of losing both. Now is the time to choose. Claim the bond and accept the prophesy that kept him from her all this time . . . or set his aching heart-and hers-free once and for all.
A DARKNESS . . .
But peace is never promised when the shadow of war looms, and Tauria's harrowing discoveries foretell a damning fate of evil to all those who bear a crown. To love may be to condemn, but to deny would be a far deadlier curse at the hands of the sinister forces intent on taking them down.
Nik and Tauria are sweet but I LOVE Faythe and Reylan!
This book is wonderfuly written, and my admiration for Nik and Tauria deepened with every turn of the page. Tauria's strength and resilience, forged through her challenging experiences, make her a true queen in my eyes, and I believe she deserves nothing less than the world. Nik's character had me rooting for him right from the very first page. The extended insights into Jakon and Marlowe were an absolute delight.
Emotionally, this book was an exhilarating rollercoaster, taking me on a journey through various feelings, but it was the kind of emotional whirlwind that I welcomed with open arms. The author's storytelling is so captivating that it effortlessly draws you in right from the start. If you're a fan of the fantasy genre, I wholeheartedly recommend this series.
Quotes: “It was in love and loyalty that they would raise the greatest army Ungardia had ever seen to fight back against evil. The hearts who couldn't love—she mourned for them.”
“To understand. Because as your friends…we can’t sit by and watch you make the mistake of a lifetime. And for your kind, that is a long, torturous existence.”
“That you’re not making a mistake because your soul calls to her by some bond of magick, but because you love her. Loved her even before you knew about the bond.”
“I’ve often wondered if we’re all born cursed to desire what doesn’t come so easily. To long for what is always just out of reach.”
Seize the wind, love. Bold and without restraint. Unleash the Nether on them all.
I have no words. What I want to say could never do the beauty that is Chloe Peñaranda’s writing justice. So I guess I’ll start this non-spoilery review from the beginning…
I’ve been with this series since An Heir Comes to Rise was only an arc. It was so easy for me to fall hard for Nikalias Silvergriff then—before I was swept away by Faythe and Reylan’s story. And I’m sad to admit it was also easy for my love of Nik to get overshadowed when it was Nik who made me fall for this story in the first place. Safe to say A Clash of Three Courts changes this. Nik and Tauria deserved this book and the chance to shine on their own.
The story picks up a little while after Nik and Tauria’s separation in A Throne from the Ashes. First let me start this off by saying if you ever were unsure of Tauria’s character, I promise you will absolutely love her in ACOTC. Tauria is easily one of the most relatable leading ladies in this series (or any series tbh) and one you can easily connect with on a personal level: The trials of finding your self-worth when you believe it’s impossible to ever feel your are enough.
And Nik…Seriously this book revived my love for the fae guard who stumbled upon our beloved gold-eyed show in AHCTR. Nik pulls through in this story in every way and had my heartstrings in an emotional tangle of knots. Yes, there was a whole lot of ugly crying involved. :)
As for all the other characters in this book…Some familiar faces, some new faves, either way Chloe has a way of making you feel for every character she puts down on-page. I now have some more favorite characters to go along with the rest of the cast in this series that I love wholeheartedly. Especially a certain someone…🖤 All of them are so well written and fleshed out!
I can’t wait to see where these characters go from here in book 5. Speaking of A Sword from the Embers I’d like to advise readers to not skip this book. Lots of answers from previous secrets are revealed but lead to more questions that will surely be answered in future books. No stone is never left unturned. Chloe is a master at foreshadowing if you’re willing to savor the stories and absorb the smallest of details. As always, I’m in awe of Chloe’s storytelling and I am forever grateful to have found this fantastic series.
First off, thank you so much to the author for sending me an arc of this book! Below is my honest review:
2.75⭐️ this was a pretty disappointing read for me.
I love this series so much, and, with the way book 3 ended, I was a little bummed that this book would not be following the main character’s storyline. I still went into this book with the hopes that it would exceed my expectations, but it just didn’t.
What didn’t work for me: this book centers the story of Nik & Tauria, two characters I didn’t care much for in the first three books. Nik did not get any better to me, and I still couldn’t care less about him as a character. The first 50% of this book was also painfully slow. Because of this, I honestly wish the author had just made this a novella. I also think some of the character choices didn’t make a ton of sense, but for the sake of not spoiling, I won’t go into detail on that.
What did work: Tauria really grew on me in this book. She’s a really great character! I found her relationship with Tarly really interesting as well and thought he was a compelling new addition. The chapter after the epilogue was my favorite of the whole book, and it definitely makes me super excited to get back to Faythe in book 5.
I still love this series, but ultimately think this book could’ve been a novella and covered the same amount of information. The author is a great writer with a strong voice; I just did not really vibe with this book. I still wholeheartedly recommend this series to lovers of fantasy romance though!
I had the inkling that this installment of the series was going to be a favorite — and I love that I was absolutely right in that prediction.
It’s certainly true that part of that is just my bias towards the characters who get the page time in this one, as I’ve adored Tauria and Nik since we first meet them in the earlier books. Getting more page time with them was a real treat, especially because we get to know them more intimately as individuals.
But honestly, I just had such an enjoyable (or was it emotional) (or really, it was both those things) riding the waves of this story as I devoured it bit by bit. It’s not just the expansion of the world & the lore (though that was excellent too, and I’m eager for more) that impressed me, but also just the way that the author feels me in with her storytelling. I love the combination of seeing pieces fall into place while also turning a corner to find a surprise — it makes for such fun when I’m reading a book.
In case it wasn’t obvious, I adored A Clash of Three Courts. Such an excellent addition to this series, and I can’t wait for the next one!
This felt like tower of dawn giving side characters their own journey, however it wasn't needed and I didn't feel like it contributed to the plot. This would've been better as a novella. The stars are dying her new book was the worst book of the year for me.
So I will no longer read any books that this author writes nor will I complete this series, I would've read the next book if it was the last but it isn't. This series already feels like it's dragging adding new books isn't helping.
It literally feels like she's taking out everything she can from sjm books.
We got a tog rip off. And ACOTAR one. I'm pretty sure cc is next.
SPOILERS AHEAD DON'T READ IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE BOOK YET(duh) this review isn't really a review as much as it is more like comments about what I liked and what I thought was bad about this book.
It's SUPER informal and like literally just my thoughts typed up. Don't judge.
The only things you need to know about this book: - Tower of Dawn knock-off/version in this series’ world - This is a Nik & Tauria book - given that I didn’t care much for them in the first place, this was ✨painful✨ - although Tauria did grow a little on me -
In Conclusion This was the worst book of the series, I think it’s just because i’m getting sick of this TOG knock-off version. This book shouldn’t have been this long and the pacing was off. Overall horrible experience, I was living my Tower of Dawn trauma again.
A 1.5⭐️/5 * The writing was ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 (nothing to say) * The pace was ⭐️/5 (SO off, this took WAY too long) * The plot was ⭐️/5 (very basic and annoying) * The characterisation was ⭐️⭐️/5 (this DID get somewhat interesting with Tarly) * The romance was ⭐️/5 (I don’t care about them omggg) * The friendship was ⭐️/5 (didn’t feel it)
First of all, thanks to the author for sending me an early ARC 💕
The series of An Heir Comes to Rise became quickly one of my favorite series after I instantly fell in love with the first book.
Faythe’s adventures and the many tropes won me over in no time.
I know this is supposed to be Tauria’s and Nik’s book and should be rated as that, However this last book just did not have my attention as much as the other three in the series, even when if I did enjoy the chess play in the courts a lot as well as the love story between these two nee characters, i was incredibly missing the characters and the “main plot-line” that made me fall in love with the series.
I was so excited to receive this book as an E-ARC as I couldn’t wait for the next instalment in this series! It did not disappoint at all! This is fantasy romance done perfectly alongside the court politics and action, which made me not want to put it down! I don’t know what more I could ask from the book so it’s a 5⭐️ from me! I feel so much for the two main characters and I may have shed a tear or two 😢 at points! Not many books get me like that! A must read for fantasy romance lovers.
uhh although i absolutely loved and adored three previous books i was pretty much stalling to read this one. most of my reasoning was me not liking tauria and nick together. idk the trope is just not something i like and in the end it felt too sweet for me and kinda made me roll my eyes *literally* at their pining interactions. i tried SO HARD to like them buy i didnt and i honestly am not sure why (probably part of it was cause i really liked nick and faythe and couldnt move on from them)
the pace was so slow and at times i dropped the chapters midway. first 70% of the book dragged on forever for me. once i got excited, it all deflated pretty fast and poof we get the ending, which is pretty investing ngl. but once again only so little excitement after i pretty much spent around a month to read the most of it? meh
i liked tauria, i liked tarly (a lot! my boo), his step mother and sister and nick, too. i honestly would have preferred for tauria to end up with tarly but whatever 💀 i guess i just dislike nick and tauria together so much
i really did try my best to like them and this book, and the only reason im giving it 3 ⭐️ is that i really loved the plot and what it added to the overall story. but the romance did slow me down a great deal but i believe it was only my personal preference
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This is basically a Tower of Dawn wannabe that failed in everything. I found it useless and I wish I hadn’t read it, because it didn’t add anything fundamental to the story. I could literally count the things that actually mattered on one hand, and they could have been explained in a couple of pages in the next book (forgot the name) and it would have been more than enough 💀
~ Political plotting ~ Heartbreaking ~ Multiple POV
What an amazing journey. This book honestly broke me in the best possible way. Chole did an amazing job. I don't know how to explain it but I connected with Tauria. I think her story is so beautiful. She is so brave and strong. I loved seeing her become stronger. Oh Nik... I enjoyed him since the beginning of the series. To see him really own his choices was so great. The quotes that come this book are amazing. I think I really have fallen in love with Nik and Tauria. I loved all the new characters. I also loved how we got some more back story on some old ones too. I can't wait to see them again in book 5.
A Clash of Three Courts is book 4 in the An Heir Comes to Rise series. While it may not be a book about not about the main FMC Faythe I can promise the story is just as important. I hope everyone really gives this series a chance because it is truly one of my favorites. ❤️
I received this book as an ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts. I am so thankful for Chole for this amazing opportunity.
What can I say? This book had absolutely everything! You think this will be just a filler book? You are so damn wrong! It’s written so good and there wasn’t a second where I was bored. I just wanted to know everything & the way Chloe made me love Tarly Wolverlon. I am still speechless. The Plot Twists? I am usually very good at those but damnit the author is just a genius and you getting tricked so easily.
It’s a beautiful book just as the others are as well. This series holds totally my heart & I love all my characters!
Tauria & Nik? Can’t explain how much I want them to be happy. As individuals they are both such great characters. Nik is proud of Tauria‘s strength and even though they both are very frustrating at first, it was worth the wait, people. And Tauria? She is a legend and she is the moment. Fenstead‘s fiercely queen who is just such a role model.
I don't think anybody on this earth hates filler books or books in a series that strays from the main plot and centers on a side character more than me, but boy, was I WRONG about this one. There was not a single dull moment despite my apprehension. Tauria and Nik are everything and more. I got my heart full, shattered into tiny little pieces, and haphazardly put back together at the end cause i know shits going down in the next book. The plot twists were INSANE. It was one thing after the next and when I thought I had a good grasp on everything chloe was like SIKE you thought! I can't recommend this series enough cause it got me so excited about reading again.
I thank the author for ARC and an opportunity to read such a story of my favourite characters.
5-⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 3-🌶️🌶️🌶️
This book had left me in tears. But I loved and I cried with the characters.
Nik and Tauria broke me in a thousand little pieces and put me back together.
The story is the heart-wrenching and painfully written by the author and am glad that she decided to show us these MCs past, emotions and what had happened when we left their plot in ATFTA. Now I am even more love in with them and they are my favourite couples in the series. Idk how many times my heart shattered in the last 10 chapters and sooo looking forward for the book 5.
Nik is the powerful nightwalker and would do anything to save the only one he loved for centuries. Tauria is strong, wild, beautiful and badass who would put others before herself if that saved the persons she loved. Both of them went through a lot in their lives and still. Such a unbelievable Twisted fate was fall upon them and they are living in a borrowed time. Nik and Tauria deserved each other and beyond everything.
Their story played an important role in the book and Chloe gave us exactly what we didn't except. We get to know what happened in the past that made them misunderstood each other, still doing everything in their power not to hurt them even if it means killed them instead. Giving up the only person they loved was a sacrifice only that person could make and if it means, it makes them happy with another. It was full of pain, angst, hurt, love, betrayal after betrayal, battle between love and duty.
Besides that, we get see more characters, unanswered questions in the previous book but it only arises more questions, prophecy, Evil Villains, lots of twists and turns and it's really a A Clash of Three Courts.
I want to thank the author and her team for giving me the opportunity to read an ARC of A Clash of Three Courts. 💕
I was slightly worried when I found out the next book in the An Heir Comes to Rise series was a tandem read. I was pleasantly surprised. I felt the first 50% was a little on the slow side but when things started happening and coming together it went by much faster.
“‘You don’t think romance exists like in your novels?’ ‘Why does it sound as if you’ve found challenge in that?’”
We got two different flashbacks scenes in the prologue and epilogue that I LOVED the edition of. Both were high points of Nik and Tauria’s relationships throughout the years. The sexual tension in the prologue was 🤌🏻.
I loved reading Tauria’s story and watching her coming into the role of the Queen she has always been. Seeing her confidence in herself grow was amazing to read. She truly deserves all the happiness and I’m excited to continuing reading about her fighting to take back her homeland. Before this book, I had a hard time seeing Nik and Tauria together, as I was so wrapped up in Faythe and Nik and then in Faythe and Reylan. This book remedied that.
It was interesting to see Nik take on the role of being King and, for the first time, being alone. However, his friendship with Jakon and Marlowe continued to grow even without Faythe present. Faythe was responsible for bringing so many people together in her found family in High Farrow and I hope to see them combine with her new one in Rhyenelle. Just one big, happy found family. Despite the distance, Faythe continues to bring these people together and form unlikely friendships and bonds that will last long after their lifetimes have come to an end.
Tarly. I wasn’t sure how to feel about Tarly going into this. Throughout the entire book I tried to figure out his motivations and if he was trustworthy or not. He has a companion wolf, whose presence in his life holds meaning about his nature. For the sake of spoilers I will not go into detail, however, I am a firm believer in trusting an animal’s instincts of a person. I seriously look forward to Tarly’s story continuing in the future. I have theories about something that happened in his past and this book ends with a secret he kept being revealed. I desperately wish to know the outcome.
Let’s get to the part I know some of us were wondering about. Faythe. Faythe and Reylan are mentioned multiple times throughout the book. Her friends love and admire her in ways one can only hope to be loved by their friends/family, even miles apart. They all love her so dearly as she does them, and it shows every time they think of her. That being said, if you are turned off by the thought of Faythe not being in the story, there is plenty mention of her and a small appearance in the beginning to look forward to. ¡¡The next sentence is a slight spoiler!! There may or may not also be a small chapter including both Faythe’s and Reylan’s POV at the end.
As far as timeline goes, while the characters may not be, the reader is aware of when *certain* things from ATFTA occur. The timeline is done in a pretty obvious manner.
I’m excited to continue this series and I highly recommend it!
Let's start at the beginning. I have followed this series from the first book, and I hate Nik (sort of). I was never really over his reason of "toying with Faythe's feeling" in book 1 and I used to think he just jumped from Faythe to Tauria. BUT!!!
This book happened.
It took 3 BOOKS to know the reason of Nik's attitude and although I want him to suffer just a little bit more for hurting these ladies's feelings... well, I can forgive him just a little bit. Tauria is amazing and such a dear she deserves all the love. I also care deeply for Tarly and I hope poor guy will get all the happiness he deserves (he has been through A LOT) and I just love Opal! And Katori!
That's all I can say without spoilers haha but overall it was another masterpiece from C.C. Penaranda! I'm so sooo stubborn but she managed to change my hate toward Nik to "eh I'll give him a chance" so yep. She is amazing, lol!
FINALLY. oh my god i am free. this book took me so fucking long to read and it feels so good to be done 😭. anyways…this book was ok. it was definitely WAY too long for everything that happened. a majority of the book nothing was happening and i was losing my mind. i was also sooo annoyed with tauria and nik in the beginning because they just needed to confess. they had zero communication skills and it really showed. also tauria…sucks. she’s supposed to be this “badass” fmc who is going to retake her kingdom yet…it never happens. i swear it’s been 100 years what is she waiting for. it also confuses me how she was super strong when fighting nik, yet that strength is never shown during the rest of the book. she barely uses her powers and is always crying or giving up. anywaysss, i would lower the rating for this book but it honestly wasn’t terrible i was just in a slump. i also like the other books in the series so i’m being generous.
Not a single word of this book was important except for maybe the last 80 pages, up until that I was enraged. I did not like or care about the main characters. Especially considering the last book was great and left on a cliffhanger. Then this book suddenly started with a story that was stupid and POINTLESS to the plot until the last 80 pages. This would have been a great novella, maybe even a 5 star novella. But no, it was 600 pages of absolutely nothing which I skimmed most of because it was so beyond pointless. If you were reading this series, I would suggest reading the synopsis then reading the last 100 pages and that would be all you need to continue.
4.5☆ ok why are these ratings so low??! I LOVED this book and I’m not embarrassed to say it’s my favorite in the series…
yes we focus on the side characters’ stories and even though the fmc and main mmc weren’t in this book, I loved the side couple we focused on so much! their love story is so painfully beautiful. the obstacles they go through that forbids them to officially be with each other UGH be still my heart. the plot kept me on my toes and I was engaged the whole time whereas with previous books in this series, I wasn’t fully invested. if only this book was a bit shorter it would’ve been five stars.
Leave me alone I would like to scream into a void for a second.
This one took a hooottttt bloody minute for me to get into after that last one and I really was fighting with myself to read this- all I wanted was a perfect continuation from the last one and you’re telling me to WAIT?!!? Gosh that reallly killed me. Plus I was not the biggest fan of Nik, I like him, but he just was a whiny lil bitch and I can’t stand that ya know??? Anyways, love that bastard now.
Tauria really was a hot mess in this and it was grating on my nerves towards the end there holy smokes. Girl can’t catch a clue if it hit her in the face… I liked her determination don’t get me wrong, it just was Incredibly misplaced and I am not a fan of that. Lucky I like her enough to get past👏🏻
The ending had me audibly gasping, and then shouting “whAT” which was super lovely 😫I really gotta respect the author for that one 🫡
Good shit now I must run desperately to the next book because if I don’t get what I want I’m going to rage and then go to sleep with tears pooling in my collarbones🤪
This was a solid book. I enjoyed it but it wasn't quite on the same level as the first books in the series. It was nice to finally see Tauria and Nik's story but I really missed Faythe and Reylan. I also struggled with how little time Nik and Tauria actually had together. It was hard to root for them while they were apart. But I still can't wait for the next books and look forward to seeing more of Nik and Tauria (as long as I get more Faythe and Reylan too)!
Side note: Definitely do a reread if it's been awhile since you read the first books. Or at least get a refresh on some of the world building details.
This series has me in a chokehold! I loved Nik & Tauria’s story so freaking much. Nik reminds me so much of Dorian in Throne of Glass.. actually this series reminds me so much of ToG and I am here for it. I can’t wait to dive into the next & final installment right now!
I am so in love with this series! This book was mostly focused on the relationship between two characters and I kind of forgot everyone's names and the rest of the plot because I just wanted to know about the couple lol
This would be a 5/5 if only the first half was a bit more interesting. I didn’t think i would really care about these characters but wow i was wrong! The plot twists, betrayals, and character arcs were INSANE! Very excited for the last book
I started this 8 months ago and could never finish it to the point that I forgot that it ever existed. Today I came across it in my iBooks and thought it is the time to officially give up on this book and this series.
