Stuck in a new city after a break-up, I search my neighborhood for a place to drown my sorrows. What I find instead is a rowdy shifter bar. Too angry to be cautious, I walk in and make myself comfortable.
When I first see Griff, I'm stunned by his steely gray eyes. Finding myself face-to-face with such a massive monster should give me chills, but all I feel is heat. I have no idea what he is, but he's definitely not a shifter. They don't need glamor spells to walk among humans.
After a wacky witch's spell leaves my home overrun by ghouls, Griff invites me to stay in his rooftop wonderland. It's impossible to resist this gorgeous and generous creature, so of course, one thing leads to another. Now I have to figure out what kind of monster I'm falling for before I lose my heart yet again.
Totalmente recomendado.
MY GARGOYLE BODYGUARD was an alright read but the writing style was a bit stilted and the story just didn't really grab me. I know it's a novella, so there's only so much you can fit in, but it all moved so fast and stayed surface level for everything from worldbuilding, to emotions, to the characterization and romance.
4.5⭐ Oh how freakin' cute this was! 🥰 (Let me just squeal some more while I write this review!)
Emily + Griff = Fated Mates Goals! Yes, this little novella relies heavily on the insta-love trope and that ZAP! like connection between our two main character, but they navigate it so well and so are completely adorable that you ultimately don't really care much in this regard.
The novella does exactly the job it's supposed to: Hook you in and make you add Rock Hard Gargoyle (book 1 in the Possessive Monsters series) to you immediate TBR list. Would I have loved a full-length novel? Obviously! However, if the main characters don't really need it, let's not create more work for the author.
Emily and Griff's story is short, sweet, and to-the-point. There's a whole lot of fluffy romance and enough spice (with some ... tail play?) for maximum binge-able reading enjoyment.
Please, for the love of whatever God, Goddess, Diety, Symbol you worship; Stop. With. The. Nicknames! I do not understand where this trend started but it needs to stop. The books isn't even that long, barely 50 pages and between the nickname (which was thankfully not used as much as other books), and some of the repetition it just makes these books... tedious to read instead of enjoyable. There are also things that don't really make sense in the book. For starters, how long is his tail if he is so tall that he had to duck to get into the doorway but he can lick her and fuck her at the same time with his tail? Unless he's all legs it doesn't make sense. Another thing, I believe Emily described his thigh as almost the size of her waist at one point, so how could she even wrap her legs around his waist if he's really that big? The thigh description alone tells me how large he is. Even his face dwarfs her hand to the point she thought her hand shrunk. If this is a short glimpse of her writing style, I am not sure if I'll continue reading more of her books as it was just ok, nothing great and with the above issues, not sure if I could handle a longer book with yet more nicknames.

I loved this cute prequel novella about a Griff, a gargoyle in a world in which the existence of supernatural beings was recently revealed, and his new-to-town human mate, Emily. It was the perfect set-up for the Possessive Monsters series in that it explains the world and relationships between characters I'm sure I'll become better acquainted with in coming books and offered an excellent short standalone romance.
I appreciated that even with the length of the book necessitating a pretty insta-love path to their HEA the author never beat it over the reader's head that Griff and Emily were fated to be together and that Griff never took it for granted that she would be his simply because she is his mate. His nervousness about revealing himself as a gargoyle was so cute and I loved how protective he was of her and how much he was trying to impress her.
There was not much angst, and everything was solved quickly... Both main leads were likable and really cute together. What I'm more interested in, is the glimpse at the world they live in ... Humans and monsters living together after the "wall" came down and monsters and magical beings couldn't hide anymore. There were also some side characters that caught my attention and I wonder if they'll get their own story.
Overall a nice and cute prequel introducing readers to the author's world.
POV: dual Tropes: insta-love, fated mates, gargoyle/human. Spice: low (short detailed scenes, tail play) CW: some superficial descriptions of rotting ghouls, a bit of violence.
4.5 ⭐ Well if that wasn't the perfect setup for what I expect to be an amazing series then I don't know what is. This is a suuuuper quick read, but it packs a lot of fated mates love plus a whole group of side characters you'll be really excited to meet! I had a lot of fun running through these 10 chapters and I'm super excited to jump into this series in the new year. Griff may have only been around for a handful of chapters but I already know the other MMCs are gonna have a hard time competing. There's just something about a big brooding man with wings and a tail walking in the bar and going "That one's mine." 😍🥰😌
I loved the universe building of monsters living in everyday society. And the gargoyle brothers are to die for!
The story overall is super fast paced as in they fall hard for each other in a matter of days, but hey, if a handsome monster whisked me away and was as romantic as Griff, then I too would fall as hard as our FMC did.
There was a good mix of romance, comedy and action. And we can’t forget about the steamy parts, especially the tail action…
There were some minor grammatical errors, but nothing too serious.
Overall, a great read.

This was a nice quick read into this world. I haven't read many books on Gargoyles and I am here for more of them. I am excited to check out more books by this author. Novellas are short for a reason and what I needed at the time to try a new author out. I am hoping I get more into the story when I go to book 1. I hope we see more of the bar and other creatures as well, not just the gargoyles. *wink wink*
Sometimes when a relationship ends itis ablessing to something better and greater - well most of the time.
This book truly lets you see that although things end, if you are opne and willing better comes along and not AT ALL how you expect them to be.
I love that Griff is protective and loving twoard Emily while still being cautious and Emily is fighting with her inner self to discoverr her worth. It really is reu that we teach people how to love and treat us.
I loved this book ,I really really really looooooved this book.
This is what I was looking for, a book that will get me hooked from the first line, I wish it was more longer though :/
Griff is HOT HOT HOT and so charming and sexy and just amazing, Emily was so sweet and lovable and beautifull.. This two had the best chemistry ever!!!!
I'm usually not much one for novellas, and this wasn't an exception. Too little world-building or plot for me, and the instalove whipsaw about physically hurt me. But I'll read a full-length book by this author to get more of a feel for her writing style and to see if I want to keep going in this series or not. I can't judge an author by a novella.
Super cute and sweet! This was a tiny little novella about Emily and Griff falling in love. We meet them in Grayson and Shelby’s book, already mated. So, it was nice to get a snippet of how they met and how they fell in love. I just love these gargoyles, they are the perfect mate and perfect book boyfriend. And now I’m so ready for Eamon’s book!!
This was such an awesome introduction to this new series. I loved that it was a prequel novella and had such an awesome well thought out story. Cute wholesome paranormal love story. Awesome side characters that made me just want to read about them. I giggled all the way through this one. So good!
This is the prequel to Rock hard Gargoyle, where we first met Griff and Emily and this novella shows how they got together. I like this book as both main characters are fun and engaging and make you laugh. This is another hit by Maggie!
Received this copy for free from the author - thank you. This was a cutesy insta love novella. It was a quick read, but enjoyable with a HEA for the couple. It definitely has me curious to check out more in the series.
I was lucky enough to score this book from the author via Bookfunnel and I am thrilled I did. Super short, very steamy, he falls first, HARD, and fast. Feels like a great intro to this world and it's varied monsters. 5/5 Stars
Very cute novella! Griff and Emily were very sweet with a whole lot of insta-love happening. What’s not to love about a gargoyle? lol! I can’t wait until the first full-length book comes out!
