Tess Thompson Romance...hometowns and heartstrings.

Tess Thompson is the USA Today Bestselling and award-winning author of contemporary and historical Romantic Women’s Fiction with over 60 published titles. When asked to describe her books, she could never figure out what to say that would perfectly sum them up until she landed on, Hometowns and Heartstrings.

She’s married to her prince, Best Husband Ever, and is the mother of their blended family of four kids and five cats. Best Husband Ever is seventeen months younger, which qualifies Tess as a Cougar, a title she wears proudly. Her Bonus Sons are young adults with pretty hair and big brains like their dad. Daughters, better known as Princess One and Two, are teenagers who make their mama proud because they’re kind. They’re also smart, but a mother shouldn’t brag.

Tess loves lazy afternoons watching football, hanging out on the back patio with Best Husband Ever, reading in bed, binge-watching television series, red wine, strong coffee and walks on crisp autumn days. She laughs a little too loudly, never knows what to make for dinner, looks ridiculous kickboxing in an attempt to combat her muffin top, and always complains about the
rain even though she chose to live in Seattle.

She’s proud to have grown up in a small town like the ones in her novels. After graduating from the University of Southern California Drama School, she had hopes of becoming an actress but was called instead to writing fiction. She’s grateful to spend most days in her office matchmaking her characters while her favorite cat Mittens (shhh…don’t tell the others) sleeps on the desk.

She adores hearing from readers, so don’t hesitate to say hello or sign up for her newsletter:

I was so excited to see that a new Tess Thompson book was coming out! Her books are always some of my favorites, and The Pet Doctor is no exception. This book is part of the contemporary timeline of Emerson Pass books.

For me, the greatest things about Tess Thompson’s stories are the characters. The main characters of The Pet Doctor are Tiffany, a wedding planner, and Breck, a vet. I was fascinated by Tiffany’s past, and really wish that it could have been delved into deeper, though I completely understand why it wasn’t. The subject matter is just one that has always fascinated me. Based on her past though, she is a very unique person. She’s not very trusting and has lived a very sheltered life without much love. Breck, on the other hand, is essentially the opposite. He also had his issues in his younger years, of course, but for the most part he grew up with support and a lot of love. The differences cause these two characters to have some very interesting interactions. The question is - will they get together? Read the book to find out.

People familiar with the Emerson Pass series will see characters from previous books and mentions of characters from the historical fiction Emerson Pass series. I also love trying to figure out who will be the stars of the next book. I definitely have a hunch. I can’t wait to read the next book to see if I’m right!

Welcome back to Emerson Pass, rich in history, community, people and neighbors!

This is Tess Thompson’s next installment in the contemporary
series and this one not to be missed!

Tiffany escaped from a cult ten years ago, she is still adjusting to life outside an electric fence that was dictated by the elders.

Breck Is the pet doctor in Emerson Pass, he inherited the practice from his mother, a practice that has been in the family for many generations. He’s had a crush on Tiffany for very long time but knows she has huge walls up and isn’t sure he can get past them.

These two are pure magic together, together they can face anything, and that’s good to know especially as the cult becomes an FBI investigation, and more secrets from Tiffany’s past or revealed.

I absolutely loved it !

I love going back to Emerson Pass. It's like visiting old friends, people who are really glad to see you. Tiffany's upbringing in a cult really surprised me but lent so much to the rest of the book. The settings are amazing, the characters are wonderful. A very satisfying story about family, friendship, some good food and as always, true love.

The Pet Doctor by Tess Thompson
This is the story of Tiffany and Breck, the local veterinarian for Emerson Pass. Breck has had a crush on Tiffany for some time, but Tiffany is guarded about her past and wants to take things slow. After taking over the vet office from his mother, Breck and she have not seen eye to eye on a lot of things, especially how things should be run.
This is the story of fresh starts and new beginnings. It is also about letting go of past traumas and forging ahead with your head held high.
As only Tess Thompson can do, the reader is brought to Emerson Pass to once again delight in the town and its people and their unforgettable stories of love.
Pick this book up. You will not be disappointed.

The Pet Doctor, book three of the Emerson Pass contemporary series by Tess Thompson, is possibly the best of what is already a wonderful historical fiction series. The story takes place in Emerson Pass, a small ski town in Colorado. The main characters in this one are Tiffany, a young woman who escaped a traumatic and terrifying childhood to overcome all obstacles and become a successful wedding planner. The other is Breck, the beloved town veterinarian, who while successful taking over his mother’s practice, must also overcome some serious obstacles as he matures into the man he hopes to be. This story is full of family drama, romantic relationships and plenty of suspense. Fans of the series and new readers alike should love this one. The Emerson Pass historical series about the towns founders and some of the ancestors of the characters in the Contemporary series and is equally good and I recommend them as well.

This book! Wow! I didn’t see it coming. I just dived in to story headfirst and was like: what did just happened and where I was? It felt like I traveled in time backwards to being able to find a way to Emerson Pass, the town I fell in love with and its fantastic residents who I became to know and love like family.
Such a wonderful story! Breck, the pet doctor, kind and loyal, handsome and caring, loving man. Tiffany, beautiful and successful wedding planner. Both with insecurities and past traumas.
I love the way Tess Thompson creates her characters to overcome struggles and difficulties getting stronger. I really didn’t want this book to end! It was that great! I can’t wait to see more of Emerson Pass people!

Oh wow!! I believe Tess Thompson has outdone herself with this one. It truly from the first page is unputdownable and the many twists and turns will take the reader on a roller coaster ride. Ms Thompson brought back some of characters we know and love and added a few more to love. As in the other contemporaries in the Emerson Pass series, she tied in the historical characters. Tiffany lived a horrendous childhood and had to work very hard to overcome it and find a life.
I definitely recommend this series from a very accomplished author and she did not disappoint in this book.

I read this book as an ARC and wish to thank Tess Thompson and the publishers for the opportunity. The ideas included in my review are solely my own.

Welcome back to Emerson Pass present day. I love Tess Thompson’s ability to write this series and keep all the characters linked together whether it’s the early 1900’s or modern day. The Pet Doctor is another bestseller in the Emerson Pass series and concentrates on veterinarian Breck. His love interest comes from a background that is familiar to those that have watched the news on bigamist cults taking advantage of young girls. Tess Thompson has done a wonderful job of bringing that into the story and showing it’s possible to overcome one’s past. Another must read!!

It was so good to be back in Emerson Pass. Tiffany is used to running and hiding. After a hellacious childhood, that no child should ever live through, she is finally finding her way through life. She even has a a faithful companion, Muffy, whose Dr., Breck Stokes, has caught her eye and heart. But, her past is a lot. And now the cult that she was raised at has been raided. Lots of memories, lots of pain. But she also finds, a lot of very special people in her life. Wonderful book. The Pet Doctor. Five stars.

The Pet Doctor by Tess Thompson is book three in the Emerson Pass contemporary series. It can be read as a stand-alone but is made so much better if read after the other Emerson Pass books.
As with all of Ms Thompson's books, the characters are beautifully written and the story draws the reader in quickly. I loved meeting Tiffany and Breck. Scooter was quite an interesting character- it would be great to learn more about her.
Thank you to the author and publisher for an ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.

I love Emerson Pass, be it when it was founded by the Barnes or present day with the ancestors of those early settlers.

This may be my favorite book so far. The characters are awesome. Who doesn't love a kind and generous guy who is a great friend and will readily admits to enjoying a nap? And Tiffany is a strong female lead, who may have problem with putting herself out there, but who wouldn't after the way she was raised and the traumas she has endured.

I'm all about people who do the right thing even when the right thing is the hard thing to do.

Emerson pass NEVER gets old, and I'm so looking forward to Huck's story.

This was a wonderfully engrossing story. I read until my eyes went dry! We returned once again to Emerson Pass in Colorado for the story of Tiffany and Breck. The story was simply perfect with two imperfect people who have survived and overcome. There is a saying, “I opened a book and in I strode and nobody could find me.” This is how I felt about The Pet Doctor. I opened it up and in I strode and once again lived in Emerson Pass among all my book friends. Although it is part of a series, I think you could easily read it as a stand-alone. I highly recommend this sweet contemporary romance! Thank you to the author for an ARC, all opinions are my own.

Because of her horrid upbringing, Tiffany is very unworldly, but the author has written her character into a survivor. Put her with one of the kindest men in Emerson Pass, the town veterinarian Breck, and you have a delightful book about the sweet romance of these two contemporary inhabitants of this unusual town in Colorado. I received an ARC from the author and this review is my honest opinion.

Breck and Tiffany's story is adorable. Tiffany had a really rough childhood. Growing up there and escaping made her a survivor. She toughed it out, got a college education, and opened her own business in Emerson Pass.
After a rough 10 years, she found out her real dad wasn't who she thought it was and found the man she loves in one of the most amazing men in her town. This book is beautifully written. I read this until I couldn't see straight anymore.

The newest book released in Tess Thompson’s Emerson Pass series, “The Pet Doctor”, begins with such a powerful gut wrenching somber first chapter of Nicole/Tiffany’s early heartbreaking life. What a strong woman she has become when she arrives later in life to Emerson Pass with her secrets only to be misunderstood by many others. That is until she met Breck, who is the town’s veterinarian. He is emotionally mistreated by some and has troubles standing up to those who are mentally abusing him. The two form such a special bond that is confusing and not understood by some, which makes for their growing relationship to become that much stronger. Past characters from the Emerson Pass series are intermingled into this story as well as descriptions of how the town is growing since the fire which is really appreciated by me as a reader. This is an amazing story of perseverance, dedication and love which I HIGHLY recommend to all. Thank you, Tess Thompson, for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I excitedly look forward to your next book in this series!

When I started reading this book, I had to doublecheck that it was the book I thought I had chosen to read. The first chapter did not seem connected to the Emerson Pass series. However, I was totally wrong. The first chapter will set the stage for events happening later in the book.
This is Tiffany and Breck's story. Breck is the town veterinarian. Tiffany is the popular wedding planner who is going through a slow time following the fire that devastated Emerson Pass earlier. Breck hires her for his office and the fun starts there. As they get to know each other, Tiffany's past explodes on TV screens across America when the cult compound where she was raised is raided. As she struggles to cope with her past memories, her friends rally around her.
An unexpected incident leaves the reader wondering if one of the characters will survive.
As always, author Tess Thompson has another wonderful book for her readers.

What a great read.
Ms Thompson takes us back to modern day Emerson Pass.
Tiffany Birt is a wedding planner whose business is on hold due to the devastating fires but she is also hiding a dark secret from her past.
Breck Stokes is the local vet, who lives under his mother's subtle control both at home and at work.

This book is slightly different to all the others in this series as I personally felt both characters had such immense personal growth and development. And they helped each other to become their better selves. Breck helped Tiffany become more involved in real-life and face up to her past and expose it, whilst she in turn, I feel, helped Breck to man up and take a stand in his life against his mother's meddling both in his personal and professional life.

It was a great escape back to a loved town with pop-ins from well-loved characters made SO much better by no mentions of the pandemic or any of the craziness of life in 2022. I do feel slightly sad realising this is book 3 of a planned 5 series, because we know farewell to Emerson Pass is creeping closer, but having said that, you don't really need to have read the other books in the series to understand this book, but if you can - go read them.

Loved this addition to the Emerson Pass series. Local Veterinarin Breck always has had a way with hurting, injured animals. When Tiffany Birt came to town, something struck a chord in Breck’s heart. When Tiffany reveals to her friends she was raised in the Briar Rose compound and subjected to the horrors of the cult life Tiff escaped when she was barely 16 and about to become a wife of one of the elders. her friends surround her with love and care.

The friendships are special bonds. Tiffany begins to work for Breck’s Veterinarian practice after struggling with her wedding planning business.

More about Tiffany’s past comes to light after she testifies with the FBI. Breck stands by Tiffany as she struggles to deal with her past.

The characters are wonderful, along with references to the characters in the historical part of the series.

Thank you to the author for the ARC of this wonderful addition to the Emerson Pass series. This review is my honest opinion

SUCH a sweet story! You will fall in love with Breck!

What stands out to me about Breck is how tender and compassionate he was toward Tiffany. He didn't think she was an idiot for not knowing things about the world -- things she would have known if she hadn't grown up in a cult -- but he was gentle with her and stood by her every step of the way. I loved how he took a stand in front of his mom and Huck, especially his mom. Sometimes you DO have to set boundaries with family, it's never easy, but I think Breck handled the situation with respect and grace. He's such a great "book boyfriend," and I can't wait to see him and Tiffany (and Muffy?) in future books. I love Emerson Pass!

Tess Thompson’s Emerson Pass Contemporaries are beautifully written novels and she does not disappoint with Book Three in the series The Pet Doctor. This is Break and Tiffany’s story and like the others you do not want to miss it. You will pick this one up and not want to put it down until the end and even then you will want more. It is a story of true friendship, survival, starting over and rebuilding. There are many ups and downs and also twist and turns. Thompson’s characters always overcome obstacles, struggles and difficulties and this one is no different. Emerson Pass is a joy to visit in these books and I look forward to the next one. I highly recommend this one and the two before!

Thank you Tess Thompson for the honor of being on your review team!! I received an advanced copy of this book and this is my unbiased opinion.

Emerson Pass, Colorado is a special setting, one I would love to visit in real life. Breck is the charming and handsome town veterinarian. Tiffany is the beautiful and reserved wedding planner. After a traumatic childhood that it impacts her adult life greatly, Tiffany’s story is one of strength and resilience.
I love Tess Thompson’s characters and the way they overcome obstacles. These characters feel like friends that I need to catch up with and I’m already eager for my next visit to Emerson Pass. Thank you to the author for the opportunity to read an advance copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Not Really for Me

This book started out unlike any romance I’ve read before. It’s was unique, interesting and surprising. Then… then it was a little unrealistic how fast the character changed. It was also a bit of a loaded story line that never went below the surface of too many plot twists. The dog was adorable, the romance sweet (though I personally thought the whole wanting a wife with a woman he barely knows is super creepy, some people enjoy that) and the plot loaded.
