The Mighty Hunter brings us a story of the merpeople that live beneath the sea in a dome that the god Poseidon cursed them too!! Our heroine is taken when her boat and the scientists on board die, and she and one other woman are the only survivors. She is rescued and taken beneath to become a part of them. Caderyn craves a real woman, but he knows the chances are unlikely until Bridget comes into his life. He is determined to win her and claim her as his wife.
I had a fun time with this story and I really liked the mermaid romance we have going on here!! I have a weakness for the merpeople (I blame it on Disney's Little Mermaid) and I always grab these up the minute I know of them. So this one was so fun, and I liked the whole civilization living beneath the sea. Our heroine is a marine biologist and this is a dream come true for her. But we see a romance that is turbulent at times, with some misunderstands but also some great chemistry. This is quite a fun story to read, and even though it definitely has a erotic feel to it....I loved the emotional love story we see develop alongside it.
When Bridget Dutton is tossed into the sea and dragged down with the ruins of their ship, she's rescued by a sexy merman. Sounds interesting right?
It wasn't. This merman decides to risk saving Bridget by taking her to Atlantis. Most humans don't survive the dive, but three new women make it to the city contained within a dome deep in some abyss where anglers and other deep sea fish live.
Nope. Just nope. No freaking way would ANY human survive that kind of pressure. There isn't even a magical explanation offered. The entire story is full of half-assed world building like this. There is special attention drawn to a medallion that Bridget likes, and I kept thinking it would mean something, but nope. Just a random add. These mermen are amazed by the humans they see on the surface and their ability to produce light. This I totally get, because they were dropped into the ocean centuries ago, long before such modern technology. So what's the problem? Well, these warriors don't have a lot of women in their underwater world, so they create pleasure nymphs, which are life-like robotic dolls that can be programmed to look and respond in certain ways. What??? Their healer also has some way of determining how many babies someone is carrying in the early stages of pregnancy. How are either of these things possible when technology and modern medicine baffles them???
The romance was...uncomfortable. Bridget's first sexual encounter with her rescuer felt a little too close to date rape for comfort. When she finally wakes up, she doesn't even remember being conscious for most of the week they're together?! The marriage confusion was ridiculous. Bridget accidentally stabbing herself was ridiculous. Her constant feinting was tiresome. Bridget's acceptance of the marriage and her new husband felt forced. And that ending was absolutely eye-roll worthy. The minute the fact that women don't normally get pregnant came up, I knew what would happen. Ugh, why?
The main conflict with the Olympians was virtually non-existent, and the writing style just wasn't my cup of tea either. I'm really craving underwater tales at the minute, but I just don't care enough about the people or the world in this series to continue.
Hrm...well.. that was... interesting. I walked into that book completely blind- I have pneumonia and saw the author and figured I wouldn't waste time looking through reviews beforehand. That landed me at 15% with a merman that must cure his 'affliction' aka erection, with a super-realistic sex doll that gives rim-jobs, while wishing the sex doll is the unconscious/half dead chick he dragged back home. Wait. Waitwaitwait. The society doesn't seem to have any transportation other than walking/pulling a cart, they have glass blowers- everything seems more or less consistent with ancient Rome or Greece. They scavenge what they can from the rare shipwreck, have been separated from the rest of the world for thousands of years, and glean whatever information they can off the few people that have survived almost drowning in the ocean, but they have state of the art sex dolls? Ones that you can readily change hair and eye color, make breathing and moaning sounds, and adjustable pussy sizes? Yup. They can't find a way to breathe any air above the ocean, but wet n' ready sex dolls? Noooo problem. Besides this, the chick is beyond annoying. 'I'm a scientist! I believe in logic! Logic logic logic! But I can't believe what is directly in front of my face!' The emotional play between the two was so juvenile I'm pretty sure the plot was hatched at a junior high dance.' Also, there's a big deal made out of her necklace, then nada. Oh, and the first intimate scene was a bit rape-y since the chick doesn't know wtf is happening.
Book one of The Lord Of The Abyss by Michelle M Pillows. Bridget is a scientist and doing a study of deep sea animals but when they find a strange clothed man in water things start to fall apart. Her ship is destroyed and she wakes up in a glass bubble which turns out to be Atlantis. As a scientist she really struggles with the explanation to everything but slowly realises she can do everything she wanted to study and be happy in the Atlantis bubble. Caderyn is the sexy merman that saved Bridget and I would have never thought a writer could make Mermen sexy but surprisingly MMP pulled it off. Great story absolutely loved ending.
Well-written and edited, this book is a fantasy romance that takes place in the underwater world of Atlantes. It is quite traditional in its boy meets girls story with the added interest of a different universe.
Well, I cringed an awful lot reading this one. The premise was interesting but the main characters were so annoying. And by the end all I was doing was singing Baby Shark...

The Mighty Hunter is the first book in the Lords of the Abyss series by Michelle Pillow.
ARC kindly provided by Michelle for an honest review.
The story line was unique and very different. This was actually my first novel with an Atlantis/mermaid tale. Michelle definitely has me hooked on this series already. It was fascinating how the storyline was very distinctive.
Bridget Dutton is a scientist that is currently on a voyage to study more about what is in the ocean. She has always been interested in the ocean and what is in it. Her ultimate dream is to study the deep ocean. Caderyn is a hunter for the Merr. He hunts dangerous sea creatures called the Scylla. He lives in a dome in the sea because of the cursed made by Poseidon. The curse is that they live an immortal life yet they cannot be on the surface or find someone to spend their eternal life with.
While out hunting, Caderyn rescues Bridget from drowning by bringing her to the Abyss where Bridget learns so many things that are just so unbelievable that she had the hardest time believing if everything is simply a tale or the truth.
The chemistry between Bridget and Caderyn was a slow burn considering that it was a very different type of relationship they are having. I liked that it wasn't fast or seemed forced. I think that it flowed nicely throughout. It was very well-paced.
I cannot wait to read the second book in the series. Michelle, you were phenomenal. You didn't disappoint with this extremely unique novel.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a honest review, so here are my thoughts: I was initially a bit sceptical as, despite i didn't mind reading other shifters books, i was not too fond of the idea of a merman. I was very wrong. I loved the MC, he was sweet, innocent but also strong and mighty. The FC is feisty but has a sensitive side to her and she is perfect for him. they are perfect for each other. The passion builds up pretty soon and it gets really steamy. I like how Michelle predicts possible questions from a reader's point of view about the logistics of it all and answers them all without leaving any doubts. I loved every part of this book and i think the story is very original. I will definitely read the other books in the series.
I read this book years ago, I think I got it trough Elora's Cave / or New Concept publishing can't even remember anymore but I absolutely loved it. This was one of my naughty reads at the time when sexy times with a hot book boyfriend and his sexy captive was more than my young heart could hold. This is a great book to read with lots of sexy times ' fan yourself here girls ' and Hot Alpha Male on top. I will recommend this book as it is a Fabulous start to the Lords of the Abyss Series
I am a super fan of this author and her writing style. When she writes a contemporary romance she's good at it, if it's like a historical she is good at it, if it's fantasy/sci fi she is good at it. Her writing style of telling a story from start to finish is also good.
I love this book Bridget is a heart warming character who just wants to explore, Caderyn is the hero he was adorable to me, here you have this hunter who is a merr man who is strong but treats Bridget so gentle. Avery good read love the strolling and the journey the author takes us on, the ending was so cute and funny and the sex between them was awe-some with two people that love each other. If your a fan of Michelle M. Pillow and you know her books and style then this one will not disappoint. If you never read her books before I'm sure you would like this story also give her other books a try.

I have to stop re reading books... I kind of hated this one this time around. The female lead is the worst. She honestly terrible. If I read this book for the first time today it would be a 1-2 star read. I gave it 4 stars the first time I read it... I always feel bad when I lower a rating because apparently I once liked it? Or I was just nicer about my ratings 3 years ago. Who knows.

Cute story.. The female character got a little annoying in the beginning but overall it was a good book.
This book was super disappointing. I really was hoping for a great merman-human love story and smexy times. Instead, I get an excessively horny control freak that exploits the hh's lack of understanding of this new society she's been forced to join. I DNF this one. For some reason, I'm not into this kind of HH, a neanderthal propagating unhealthy (abusive and kinda rapey) versions of love. And the hh was annoying and too stupid to live.
First of all, why haven’t a read a Michelle M. Pillow novel before now? I mean really?!! I have been missing out! Well…no more!! I am a fan of this author! I loved this story! I love the idea of this story! I loved the author’s delivery of this story! This is one of the best Merr romance novel’s I have ever read. I am so looking forward to the rest of this series!
A good story. It started off really good but i would have liked them to have had a bit more of their own culture, as an example, he speaks just like her, even though they haven't mixed with outsiders, i know the language barrier was dealt with but its just not very authentic.
It was a good story. Different from what Ive read about the merr sofar. Sometimes a bit frustrated with her. Triplets? Well hell, wont that just keep her busy.
The Mighty Hunter introduced Caderyn, a Mer (a city of Atlantis), who has been cursed by Poseidon, the Greek God. He has rescued Bridget, an oceanologist after a Scylla water spirit has destroyed her ship. He took her to his home at Ataran, which is one of the city of Atlantis. He couldn't take Bridget to her home. If he did, he would die by just breathing the surface air.
Bridget, being a scientist, was a close-minded. She couldn't believe that she was rescued by a merman and that she was in a city which was part of Atlantis deep in the ocean. For a scientist, Bridget is irrational and emotional. She does really stupid things and even put herself and Caderyn in danger. It is a miracle that Caderyn could put up with her with her.
Bridget kept reacting rather than think thing through. She whined, yelled, and then hid herself when she doesn't want to deal with her situation. She kept flying off the handles whenever Ayden is trying to provide her the information of Ataran.
I like the storyline and the plot. It is just Bridget's attitude that really annoys me.
The narrator, Rebecca Cook does her female characters' voices very well. The voices for the men, she was OK. It will take me awhile to get used to the male voices.
I was given this audiobook by the author. I have decided to voluntary write an unbiased review of this book. I was not compensated or influenced in any way for writing this review.
This is a story of merpeople living deep in the ocean. The mermen were hunting two creatures that attacked two ships that night. One ship is modern, with all the latest technology. One is all wood, and the people are dressed in home-spun and such. When people fall overboard and are drowning the mermen can sometimes save them. They have a directive to try to save the women specifically. On this night three women are saved by the mermen, and brought down to their home. The story explains that often the humans do not survive the decent into the abyss. It must be something special in that liplock that not only gives them air, but protective qualities to survive the pressure. The mermen group cannot breathe air, so can never go ashore. Their home is more on the primitive side in most aspects but have wonderous marvels of technology at the same time. You expect a group that has been excluded from our developing society for thousands of years to have evolved differently. They have very few women and use nymph dolls for their sexual needs. Caderyn, a merman, rescues Bridget, a marine biologist whose dream is to study deep ocean species. The story follows their romance and eventual marriage. The Olympians are another group of merpeople, merwomen. They are a bit aggressive. They can breathe air and like to sing and lure ships to their doom. I would want to know more on why these groups splintered, they obviously need each other to breed. How can one breathe air, but not the other… When humans remain in Atlantis for a period of time, they become one of the merpeople, grow gills and such. Makes sense for survival, but how and why does this happen? I have some concerns. Bridget cannot remember their initial sexual encounter which lasted a week. Not a fan there. There are other areas that do not logically work. However, if you suspend logic and need to know the why and how, and take the story at face value, it is a good story. I found it interesting, and am looking forward to the next book in the series. Narrator was good.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Listened to audio by Rebecca Cook. I thought she did a decent job with the male narration but she made Bridget sound very vulnerable and sometimes fragile which didn't seem to fit the author's description of the scientist.
Scientist Bridget Dutton has been fascinated by the ocean and its creatures since she was a little girl. All grown up she's a scientist on a research expedition when her boat is attacked and her whole world is about to change and expand.
Caderyn the Hunter is a Mer who lives with his people in the Abyss, cursed to never set foot on any other land than their island. When he saves Bridget from a watery grave, he hopes she'll choose him as her husband.
A new take on the Atlantis legend, where women are scarce and the rules aren't the same as above water. Bridget wakes after almost dying to a new world, that she has a hard time believing exists. The smart, logical and inquisitive scientist does some remarkably stupid things that have me doubting her intelligence.
While the story had good ideas, there were some that didn't make sense and others that were started but left like an unfinished thought. If you've read any of my previous reviews, you'll know i hate TSTL moments and there are more than one of these in this story. These things reduced my enjoyment of a story that had potential.
Content warning, some of the sexual scenes may be uncomfortable to sensitive readers with dubious consent.
Bridget Dutton is a scientist who hopes to one day study the inhabitants of Deep Ocean. Until her boss decides she has enough experience, she is stuck taking sea samples off the coast of Florida and being a team player. Her life changes forever when the research vessel she is on is attacked by a mysterious underwater creature. The vessel sinks, but Bridget is 'saved' by a Merman and taken to city under the water.
Caderyn the Hunter sees the beautiful woman from the ship as she breathes her last. The Mer are tasked with trying to save any females they can, and he brings her to his underwater home. The Mer are the cursed inhabitants of the Lost City of Atlantis. Unfortunately, their numbers are slowly decreasing as they can't breathe topside and all their females are mated or off-limits. No children are being born and their only hope to find females of their own is to rescue those recently drowned. If the woman lives when she is brought into the city deep within the Abyss, then she is courted in the hopes she will choose to marry. Most women do not survive the ocean depths, but not only does Bridget live, but so do two other women found that same night.
There are lots of shocks awaiting Bridget. Will she be able to adjust to her new life under the sea or will the loss of her old life be too much for her to bear? I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Sexy, funny, sweet, and had alot of lovely surprises in it. This book was so good, I did not expect to enjoy it as much as I did . This is the first long book that I read from this author and I can't described to you how much I loved it. I usually hate or dislike the hero in books because they are arrogant who believes women should bow to them but Caderyn is not like that in fact I was angry for the pain that the heroine caused him every time she said a stupid harmful words to hem . I loved how I was surprised by alot of unexpected things that made me devoured the book and won't stop reading tell I finished it .
When Bridget Dutton a scientist woman who was supposed to examine water and fish with her group of scientists found a body in the ocean, they stop to look for other survivors , that was a mistake because there boat has been destroyed by some giant creature and she was rescued by our handsome merr hero Caderyn and brought to his city. Bridget only believe in facts so no matter what our hero said to prove to her that she is not in a government facility and this is not just a joke she couldn't trust him until she see with her eyes and that caused alot of problems. Two people who can't say what on their minds and always end up hurting each other one with words and the other by not knowing what to say.
A ship of scientists had been working all day when they saw a man floating in the water. He was alive but kept talking about monsters. There was wooden wreckage floating all around. The man was dressed in strange old type clothing. They got him onboard and sedated him because he couldn’t calm down.
As the crew discussed what might have happened, something struck their ship hard enough that one of the men was flung over the side. They got him back onboard and tried to spot what had struck them as it continued to do so. They lowered a net and caught something. Bridget thought she saw a merman! But before they pulled it up, the net was ripped and came up empty. Then their ship started to break apart!
Caderyn, a member of one of the hunter teams, is a merman shifter who saves Bridget Dutton, a marine biologist, from a sea monster, a Scylla water spirit, and now he wants to make her his. Although many may find Bridget annoying (because yes, she was), she makes Caderyn happy and gives him the opportunity of having someone to share his life.
We are given some interesting background history about their underwater dome and how women are added to their community as they are rescued from death at sea. Is Bridget going to finally believe and accept what he tells her? Will she be satisfied with the future he has to offer her under the sea?
