Fun and easy reads. They remind me a lot of the Stephanie Plum books by Janet Evanovich, so if you like Stephanie, you will probably also like Maddie Springer.

Spying in High Heels - 12/30/12 - C+ or 3 stars - Hmm, well. This was entertaining enough. I enjoyed that Maddie wasn't uptight and prudish as the main character in a lot of these type of mysteries are. The story was fun, but there were a lot of things that left me screaming at her. It was obvious lawyer guy was a jerk from the start. After she found out, for sure, that he was married, she should have just walked away. And seriously? Take the freaking pregnancy test already! Jeez! But I've always been one of those people who'd rather KNOW and get it over with. I don't really understand the Maddie types who thinks if they ignore it, it will go away. Also, what the heck is up with all the food that girl eats?! Jeez! How can she stay as thin as she is? And she bemoans the fact that Dana's so tiny and she isn't, but when she goes to her house and needs clothes, she just pops into Dana's closet and pulls out jeans that magically fit her? Um, yeah. Anyway, overall, this was pretty entertaining and good for light, fun gym reading, so I'm on to the next one.
Killer in High Heels - 1/3/13 - C- or 3 stars - Eh, well. I thought Maddie was a little dim in the first one, but I put it down to her thinking she was pregnant. But in this one? God, she's an idiot. In many ways, but specifically her scheme near the end? How in the HELL did she not see that coming? And why does she keep showing up in places where club owner guy will see her and connect the dots? And why doesn't he? In addition to that, notes for the author: it's "minutes" and not "minuets," "uzi" and not "oozi," and "Dentyne" and not "Dentene." Seriously. Does she not have a proofreader?
Undercover in High Heels - 1/9/13 - D- or 2 stars - These are getting worse and worse, aren't they? In this installment, Maddie has evidently lost more and more of her brain. She barges into a club that her cop boyfriend is in and confronts him after he just broke a date and told her where he'd be. Does she not stop to think for one minute. He's a cop. Perhaps this is a suspect or an informant? No, she does what she always does and doesn't think. Evidently Dana's having the same issue. Then, even though he tells her to leave his investigations alone, she barges in again and tried to solve the crime. Never mind that everyone reading the book knows exactly who the culprit is from nearly the beginning, she can't see it. I don't see how the cop hasn't dumped her ass before now. She's so incredibly stupid, it's infuriating. These are books are like if the main character of those Shopaholic books decided to solve crimes. /shudder Also, again, does this author not have a proofreader or something to check for continuity? Evidently not. I'm not particularly grammatically fussy, but seriously: Snickers is capitalized. Also, there's a big difference from, "I said no more, Britney" and "I said no more Britney." You mean the second, but you wrote the first. Gah!
Alibi in High Heels - 1/13/13 - D- or 2 stars - They just get worse and worse, don't they? This book proves that Halliday still doesn't have a fact checker, proofreader, or continuity editor. Maddie is still an idiot. If someone runs over your daughter and breaks her leg because she's an idiot and driving a stick shift when she doesn't know how to drive one, wouldn't you be pissed at her, even if she's your best friend? Why do Maddie's mom and friend go to Paris with her? So she'll have someone to carry her luggage from the airport to her hotel room, evidently, because that's the only help I see from them. Maddie talks about how technology old-fashioned her mom is, but Maddie can't even Google and is constantly asking her mom and her friend to do it for her. When the police take the shoes she'd designed, wouldn't it be better to shlepp off to some shoe store and get something rather than having all the models in black pumps that, from the description, sound like they'd look like someone applied scrapbooking stickers all over them? Seriously. I don't see what the cop (or the reporter) sees in her. And I can't figure out why I'm still reading these. One more to go.
Mayhem in High Heels - 1/17/13 - D or 2 stars - Yeah. So, evidently Ramirez is SUCH an awesome cop that he can look at a big puddle of blood on a section of carpet and can tell that it's human blood. Amazing. Near the end, Maddie has this epiphany about how she's always forgetting stuff to do with her wedding because of the "case" she's "on." She's implies that this isn't the usual thing. Ahem. Seriously? I don't care if they're doing it because they love you, how hard is it to step up and say, "That's tacky as hell and I don't want my wedding to look like that!" Holy shit. Really? Oh, and STILL needs a continuity editor/fact checker. I'm pretty sure that if you knock down a folding chair, into the one behind it, it's not going to set off a chain reaction and knock them down like dominoes. It just doesn't work that way. And still....5 books later and I can't figure out what Maddie sees in Ramierez (or vice versa). At all.
Holy hell, these books were awful. But I bought the 5 together, so I finished them. And now I never have to read this author again.

FINALLY FINISHED THIS. I had to take a break after the first two volumes because the vapidity of the protagonist was making me crazy. A year later, and I was still annoyed by the viewpoint character and her utter obtuseness punctuated by fortuitous falling into the solutions to the murders, through no insight on her own. Anyhow, the mysteries are pretty formulaic (first murder, second murder, killer tricked into a confession), and the killers all seemed to be of a type, but I suppose that's appropriate to this sort of series. And I will say that I think the character might have changed for a better by the last couple books. (It could be that for those books I just skimmed all the irrelevant bits, like the bad dream sections and the "comic relief" sections.) I think that books 4 & 5 would have gotten a star or two more, rated separately.
This might be as simple as "wrong genre for me", since I could tell that things that were meant to be light and funny were just annoying me. As a frothy beach read, I suppose it would be appropriate.

I am a big fan of Stephanie Plum (Janet Evanovich). I was told that Maddie Springer and Stephanie were alike and that I would enjoy these books. Overall, this set of 5 books was a good read. There are a lot similarities between the two--both have dysfunctional families, both have that very sexy, hot guy, and both gals (Maddie and Stephanie) seem to have trouble follow them.
**Spoiler Alert***
Maddie Springer is a shoe designer (currently doing children's Strawberry Shortcake etc), who is always dressed in the latest fashion. Maddie best friend is Dana, a stacked blond, who exercies and eats healthy. Also a friend to Maddie is Marco, the receptionist, at her faux dad salon. Maddie mom is a fashion disaster, who gets married to faux dad in book one. Maddie mom has her side kick of Mrs. Rosenblatt or Mrs. R.
In the first book, her boyfriend, Richard, is found murdered and the LAPD question her about it. Maddie, meets detective Jack Ramirez and taboild boy, Felix Dunn in the first story. Maddie and her best friend, Dana, take it upon themselves to try to figure out who killed Richard. Maddie can be a bit of a ditz for lack of better word. As book one continues, Maddie is hot for Jack, the latino detective. Eventually the murder is solved, Maddie is cleared and Jack and Maddie start seeing each other.
In book two, it picks up with the same characters, here we meet Maddie father. Maddie gets a strange, message from her estragned father on her answering machine. Maddie, Dana, and Marco are off to Vegas to find out what exactly is going on. Once in Vegas, Maddie finds a dead body. Next thing she sees is her missing boyfriend, Jack, who has been absent from her life--he working undercover in Vegas. This story had me smiling reading about the things Maddie and her friendsd were doing. Overall, it was an entertaining book and you have to use your imagination as you know there is just no way, this stuff could really be happening.
In book three it starts with Maddie not happy that her boyfriend has broken their date as something had come up. Dana and Maddie decide to hit the town and wouldn't you know it..Maddie runs into him at a club--with another woman! Next thing you know, there is a dead body and Maddie is being questioned. Soon, we find out that this story revolves around a tv series and the main female lead getting threats and people around her dieing. There is another sexy guy introduced--Ricky who is a character on the tv series, and becomes a love interest to Dana. Dana and Maddie, come up with some crazy idea on how they are going to help Ramirez by being able to solve murders that are going on.
In the fourth book, Maddie accidently gets hit by a car driven by Mrs. R. and her foot ends up in a cast. In the meantime, Maddie is set to fly out to Paris to have her shoes shown in one of the famous Paris fashion shows. Because of her cast, Maddie mom, and Mrs. R. vounteer to go to Paris with her, to help her out--carry her luggage and so forth. I do not have to tell you what happens next --Maddie comes across a dead body in Paris. Mom and Mrs. R. help out Maddie with some internet research as maddie does not really seem to be good at that. Meanwhile, Jack, ends up flying out to Paris (to see Maddie). Dana also ends up flying out since one of the models was murdered and they are short one for the show---Maddie suggest to the designer that her friend would be perfect to replace the dead model for the fashion show (I am sure there are a lot more experienced models that could have replaced her--but hey, it is Dana)! Felix already happens to be there, as he goes every year to accompany his aunt to the infamous fashion shows. With everyone in Paris, Maddie is up to the usual--comes up with some pretty crazy ideas as to how she is going to solve a murder that she is a suspect in (again). I will admit that by now, I shake my head and ask myself a lot, can a person like Maddie really exist? Yet, I do enjoy these books, so I continue to read on.
In the last book of the box set, Maddie is planning her wedding and of course, she has found another dead body! As Mrs. R would say, her karma sucks! Maddie makes a bet with Ramirez that she will be able to solve this murder before he can. In the meantime, you read about Maddie and how she goes down her list of suspects to try and figure out who committed the crime. Maddie ends up letting Dana and Marco plan her dream wedding--can you say disaster. Even though I had figured out who had done it--I still read the story as enjoy reading them.
Overall, these books are all humor filled with some murder thrown in and of course romance! A good book to take to the beach or pool. Like other ebooks, yes there were typo and grammer errors. The one thing, that I found a tad annoying was the fact that in every single book, I was getting the same back ground on all the characters--I was introduced to them in the first book, so I know who they are and how they met--but I understand that not everyone reads books in order and some readers may not know the characters. Maddie and Dana are referred to from time to time as Lucy and Ethel as they get themselves into some pretty unusual situations and you just have to laugh--though I wonder at times how Jack can be this smart detective yet, have a girlfriend that can act so goody-to-shoes (not sure of the word I want here).
I like these books, a great way to relax, read about a little mystery and some romance. I know that I will continue reading more of Ms. Halliday's books.

The protagonist is a total idiot. Seriously, no one could be that stupid in real life. Do we have to know what she is wearing with every change of clothes? (And the outfits sound seriously tacky) Why oh why do we need to know she clubs her steering wheel? These books were a set that I bought, I can't believe I read them all.
Maddie eats junk food and has best friend who is supposed to be so much tinier than her, yet, she can borrow pants from her?
Terrible, terrible, terrible.

This was an entertaining read about a shoe designer who seems to have a knack for finding crimes and dead bodies. There are five individual stories within the book so it is a long read, but Maddie's exploits with her quirky friends and family make it a pleasure to read

It's probably a good thing that this is a set because I really disliked Maddie in the first book. She's pretty irritating and a bit daft, and not entirely likable. Also she constantly is talking about how long her dry spell is, but half the plot is how she might be pregnant...so not too things that really work together well.
By the end of the five books I liked her a bit better. I don't really get what Ramirez sees in her or why they are together though. But I really like the side characters, they are fun and different and make the books more worthwhile.
Overall, the books aren't awesome, but they aren't bad. And it was mostly some fun reading.

Books #1-5 (Box set) High-Heeled Mystery
It's hard to rate this book, when it starts out so strong and then progresses down. Part of that reason, (which is the part that, I realize now, is per usual for cozy mysteries,) is that once the author pairs up a couple, inevitably, they get together, get it on, and start a family. This is when I start to lose interest. Cozy mysteries featuring sexy, sweet single girls are like an escape for me. A Calgon moment, where I can suspend all beliefs and just enjoy the mysteries. Add BF-->husband, and things start sounding no more fun to me. I'm sure that's fine for everyone else. Must be, since those themed are a dime a dozen, but I was so hopeful for this one. Maybe because it was the first "modern" cozy I've read since the older style of cozy. Maybe it was because Maddie is just so fun to read, and her story is unique, at least to begin with. Towards the end of this box set though, I was getting a little bummed, Still, there is some fire in Maddie, but I'm feeling like this series might be coming to an end for me, even if the series continues on.

Oh my word. Maddie is an IDIOT! I don't know what Jack sees in her other than "she's cute". I'm sorry. I can't stand that. I read book 1, and started skimming through the rest of the books but on book 3 (I think, can't remember where I drew the line and said ENOUGH!) when she forgot she had a gun in her purse (who forgets they have one of those????) I told myself that was it. I was done reading this drivel. She doesn't think. About anything. Her friends are just as moronic, and her family is certifiable. I don't judge people on what they read but I really don't see how anyone can read these books. Sorry, these are not for me.

Absolutely loved these books. They are light, funny, beach reads. They aren't going to rock your world or make you think too deeply. Perfect for reading after working on your thesis, or an exhausting day at the office. Personally, I read these books while recovering from a serious accident and they totally took my mind off the pain I was experiencing. They will make you laugh, and almost any pushing 30 (or slightly after) gal will identify with the hilarious heroine. Worth the read.

Great story. Fun and light to read. This is one of the books you could pick up and just go on reading til midnight. This made me laugh, and ease the tension of my body. I love how Maddie try to solved the crimes. And Jack of course! I love all the characters --- each one is unique, distinct and tries to compliment the personality of the people involve in the story.
Oh and I just love the covers! I want that high heels too!

Without going in to the details on each book, I'll just say that shoe designer Maddie Springer and her family and friends are great characters and her romance with homicide detective, Jack Ramirez is HOT. Maddie seems to attract dead bodies and, despite Ramirez's pleas and threats to stay away, manages to find the killer. Mayhem and hijinks abound.

I really liked these books. Entertaining but a little predictable. Overall I'm glad I bought the 1-5 and did enjoy them all.
A couple times though I got tired of her lying and it did start to bother me.
These are good for the times you want to escape your own world and read some lighthearted mystery, comedy and a little romance thrown in. They are written for fun, keep them at that and you will enjoy them!

I absolutely love this series. The storyline is so well written and so well thought out, that this is one of my favorite series now. Maddie is such a mayhem magnet that I couldn't put these books down. I laughed out loud and shook my head a lot while I read some of the scenarios playing out. The characters are a great cast of very colorful personalities. This series is a must add to your tbr list. Definitely recommended.

These books were so much fun to read! Kind of like Sex and the City meets one of those cop shows, lol. I was a little annoyed that the author introduces each and every recurring character in all the books, it's like "yeah, we know him, you introduced him last time, using the same words." Other than that, I enjoyed them a lot! Definitely a fun, quick read!

The series started out cute and reminded me of Janet Evonovich's Stephanie Plum series. It lost it's appeal and got sillier as the series went on. Kept putting it down and then coming back when I ran out of other things to read.

I received this as a five book bundle. I could not make myself put this down. It is light, comical and yet dramatic. An easy read that will keep you on you toes...and it doesn't hurt to have a sexy detective involved!

Since I have read books 1-5 all in a row in the last few days... I can't review just one. I like Maddie and the way she is written. I do question the need to ones self in danger so often just to solve a mystery when the officials are investigating. Still cute though.

Good read
As I sit here at nearly 2AM, I have to tell you, these are very engrossing books. I couldn't put them down. The humor is great, the mystery keeps you guessing, and the hero and heroine have personality plus. Highly recommend.

The stories are great. The only problem is the file ids too large. By the time I got to the 5th book, it was taking 5-10 minutes to turn the page, no exxageration! Absolutely love the books though.
