Unlike some of the books on lampwork bead-making I have looked at, this one includes beads as well as projects I would actually want to make. Step-by-step instructions will guide beginners (and more experienced glass-workers) through the steps of creating and working with stringers, frit, enamels, and tools (and more!) to form beads of different shapes and sizes. I’m not sure that I agree that getting started/set-up with one’s own studio is necessarily an easy or inexpensive process, but I do second the author’s recommendation that prospective artists try out different classes and workshops to learn more about it. Learning how to make basic beads and shapes and trying out some of these techniques will definitely ignite readers’ creativity and enthusiasm for this art. This is a great introduction to the art of lampwork bead-making.
