The Isaiah Effect: Decoding the Lost Science of Prayer and Prophecy

Rate this book
A Groundbreaking Interpretation of Prayer, Quantum Science, and Prophecy.

Only one document was discovered completely intact among the 25,000 fragments of papyrus, parchment, and hammered copper known as the Dead Sea the Great Isaiah Scroll. Nearly one thousand years older than existing copies of the Old Testament's Book of Isaiah, the twenty-two-foot-long parchment was still rolled and sealed in its original earthen vase when it was discovered in 1946. The completeness of the Isaiah Scroll offers unprecedented insight into the power of an ancient mystery — a lost mode of prayer — that modern science is just beginning to understand. Displayed today in Jerusalem's Shrine of the Book Museum, the Great Isaiah Scroll is believed to be so precious by modern scholars that it's withdrawn into a vault beneath the building's floor in the event of a natural or man-made disaster.

In The Isaiah Effec t, the dazzling new work from the author of Awakening to Zero Point and Walking Between the Worlds , scientist and visionary Gregg Braden offers a radical departure from traditional interpretations of Isaiah's text. Weaving state-of-the-art research with his extensive knowledge of the ancient Essenes (the creators of the scroll texts), Braden invites us on a journey where science and miracles are merged into a new wisdom — and lead to a startling conclusion. He suggests that Isaiah, the first Old Testament prophet, left precise instructions to the people of the future describing an unconventional mode of prayer.

Using principles recognized only recently in quantum physics, Braden demonstrates how Isaiah's nonreligious, nondenominational form of prayer transcends time and distance to bring healing to our bodies and peace to the nations of our modern world.

"When I (the Indian guy, David) was young, our elders passed onto me the secret of prayer. The secret is that when we ask for something, we acknowledge what we do not have. Continuing to ask only gives power to what has never come to pass... I began (praying) with the feeling of gratitude for all that is and all that has come to pass, I gave thanks for the desert wind, heat, and the drought, for that is the way of it, until now... Then I chose a new medicine. I began to have the feeling of what rain feels like. I felt the feeling of rain upon my body... Our prayer becomes a prayer of thanks for the opportunity to choose which creation we experience. Through our thanks, we honor all possibilities and bring the ones we choose into this world.

This works! The only hard part is simply being disciplined enough to "slow down" and do the work (e.g. envisioning the prayer, feeling it through in detail, and believing that this is for real)."

There are not enough or sufficient words to describe how this book has changed how I see the world. I am nearly finished reading it, and it has given me a whole new perspective on what it means to feel gratitude. It explains the link between true "prayer" (the Fifth Mode of prayer) and quantum physics. All possibilities are possible. We choose. If everyone in the world read this book and followed its teachings, there would be peace. I could go on and on and on, but will leave you with my absolute favorite quote from the book - one I say to myself when I am praying and immersing myself in the thought, feeling and emotion of gratitude of all that has come to pass, all that is, and all that shall be: "I pray rain."
I highly recommend this book and my only regret is that I only just discovered it two months ago.

This book discusses a group I have had a large admoration for the last 15 years, using teachings from even 500 years before Christ from the mystical people, The Essenes, who had prophesied many of the things we understand better through the scope of science today. The clinical take that optimism causes chemical changes in the body that are measurable was a pretty astounding discovery for me, and I believe this to be true. I was amazed at the science behind the area people are at causing change in their emotion. Definitely, reading books like this I feel and emloying the ideas would lead to a longer, healthier life, both mentally and physically. I really enjoyed hearing his take on The Bible Code, where Gregg Braden often talked about how as I feel regarding a collective consciousness we are all moving towards as a race. As a vegetarian, it is nice that another group felt the same way 2500 years before me, in which Braden often sees things through a mode of peace of all sentience, giving personal accounts how he cared for injured animals. The optimism of the book was refreshing, and I look at these ideas as something to be explored by all, especially within my own life. I wish he had dove more into specifics of the manuscripts of many that he mentions, but maybe he does in other books. As someone that has immense difficulty with understanding or experiencing positive aspects of prayer, it is nice to see an uplifting book discussing prayer in a far different way than we in the West are used to hearing about or living.

I had the certain misfortune to come across this book being read by a gentleman in a vegetarian restaurant.

Amongst other things, I learnt from him that the theory of evolution was "bullshit", that DNA would prove prophecies (he was extremely vague on the details), and that cars could be run on energy extracted from water but that there was a global conspiracy to suppress "the truth" about this because of vested oil-related interests, and that scientists were "close-minded" and "arrogant" for not considering new age ideas, oh and people from Tibet were "on another spiritual plane".

We didn't really have a very fruitful discussion about how violating basic laws of physics (in particular but not limited to laws of thermodynamics) just wasn't possible. The critical attribute of science is being open-minded and being hyper-critical about everything.

As an educator with two science degrees, I was astonished and saddened by how he has been failed by the science education system. His ignorance and willingness to accept nonsensical pseudoscientific ideas was itself astounding and only compounded by his failure to the irony of calling professional scientists arrogant while having no scientific training or understanding.

If you want to retain at least a tentative grip on reality, don't uncritically read new-age nonsense.

So far, I am having a hard time getting 'into' this book. It has been slow reading, which I was warned, but encouraged to let it absorb before reading on. It was recomended by a friend who knew I was struggling in a Science class. I let her know that I pray, and then thank God for giving me all I pray for, for I truly believe that God will give me all I need, even if sometimes his answer is not right now. So this book is about the way we see our future, and how we can change it with our positive visions. I really want to read it, but like I said, it's been slow reading. Will let you all know how it goes.

I think this guy has a valid point - prayer works best when you come into it with a positive, thankful attitude and pure motives - and I love the way he uses science to explain what happens while we pray. I think he took God out of the equation a little too much, but I get that he's trying to appeal to people of all faiths and even those without faith in what he's saying here. His anecdotes were a little too saccharine for my tastes, and I think he's not as poetic a writer as he thinks he is when writing them, but I enjoyed this. It's got me thinking, and I'll certainly be altering my approach to prayer a little bit.

Interesting and great research on the effectiveness of prayer, and the oneness and connection! Yet it was repetitive. It could have been shorter.

Ciągłe prośby zasilają jedynie to, czego nam brak. (…) Najpierw musimy wywołać w sobie uczucie tego, czego pragniemy doświadczyć. (…)

The author discusses how, through the power of prayer, we have the ability to change the future. Predictions given from prophets throughout the ages do not necessarily have to come true since our future actually consists of various outcomes.
A short overview of prophecy is given from ancient religions that are all very similar in their predictions of great earth changes that will precede war, famine, etc yet through the collective power of prayer it is believed we will be able to change our future. A mathematical formula is given the result of which is the number of people required to pray in order to begin to achieve the desired result. The more people participating in the prayer the greater the effect and more likely the desired outcome.
The Essene view is discussed which says that we are one with the earth and changes within us can cause changes outside of us as witnessed through weather and earth changes as there is a relationship between our earth and our body. For a better world we ourselves must become better individuals.
An interesting, thoughtful read on what for many has become a neglected aspect of life, which is prayer, and it's power to change futures for the better. After reading this book, it will be difficult to disagree with C.H. Spurgeon when he said "prayer moves the arm that moves the world".

Examining long-lost scrolls that reveal connections to so much knowledge, wisdom, and universal and internal connection to both the expanse and breadth of the universe, and also the power and capacity of our abilities as humans, this book is an attempt to translate, into modern terms and thinking, what others have long ago understood, but perhaps knew they would not have the proper language to convey to a evolution of humanity so blocked to that level or plain of awareness. I would not even call it believers, per se, because even so called, and self-proclaimed ‘believers’ are often close-minded. I would more call it, those who are more wholly open-minded and open-spirited and perhaps, most of all, open-hearted to the existence and possibility of more – and our ability to influence it.
This is a book, or perhaps a concept I would like to visit again.

A new/ancient way of thinking about prayer, the purpose of life and the mind/emotion/body connection.

We all know that there were texts edited from the Bible. This was done for political reasons but it has affected us all on a deeply personal level. It’s robbed us all of our birthright to be co-creators with the divine of a healthy, peaceful world.

This book examines what we’ve learned from the Dead Sea scrolls about the lives of the Essenes, their world view and how they prayed, using emotion and belief to create optimal health, peace and community.

The author sites The Dali Lama and Mother Theresa as modern holy people who use the ancient Essene technique of finding beauty in their surroundings no matter how dire, praying for the better of all living beings and knowing the interconnectedness of all things.

This was a great book on opening up your psyche, seeing things from different perspectives, and allowing infinite opportunities and possibilities to manifest into your reality. I enjoyed the part about "time" and how he went into detail of how its not linear. I have never thought about it in that way. So it was cool to get a vision of all the parts of me plating out on several dimensions, so to speak, all at the same time.

Great perspective on how to pray

Reinforces the thought
that everything we do is a form of prayer. Changes how one see the past hurts since the book has established based on native american traditions that everyone is connected. If you hurt someone you hurt yourself.

Greg Braden is a former earth science expert as well as a computer systems designer turned tour guide of sacred and religious sites all over the world. He has written a number of books on similar subjects.

The Isaiah effect examines many tenants and religious beliefs throughout man kind's history. Looking at who wrote the Bible, why books were left out and what it meant to the overall understanding of the Bible that the books were not included in the final project. He looks at the Bible with all the books and also looks at Native American, Mayan and Aztec beliefs among many others (to be listed later). How are they similar? The writer will show you.

Greg Braden believes we are missing something today. He explains how mass prayer has been proven to work. He discusses quantum physics theories that make many of the ancient prophecies seem plausible. The book spends a good bit of time discussing "The Bible Code" and the possibilities that it teaches us. The writer also has chapters discussing healing through prayer among many other faith based actions.

This book tries to make you think. Common prophecies, common threads in religion, did we all come from one belief? The book also presents a new way to look at time, time travel, dimensions, religions and quantum physics, prayer and prophecy, alternate realities, multiple paralleled universes. Can we bounce back and forth between them? Maybe even without knowing? Are we actually just now starting to learn or relearn what the ancient people knew? If so, why? How do the prophecies from Peru, Tibet, Egypt, Jerusalem and the American Southwest coincide?

Many questions are explored in the book. Some answers are given which in turn just raise a few more questions. This is a book that makes you think about many things including how we, as a race, relate to the seen and unseen worlds. If you are in a contemplating mood this is the book for you. If you are interested in the history and contents of religions this has some interest. If you feel something is missing in today's religions, read this book. It will make you think.
