The Wicca Book of Days: Legend and Lore for Every Day of the Year by Gerina Dunwich
I look forward to marking up my new calendars every year using this book as reference for all my important dates. The book is laid out in a very easy to use and understand format, yet remains informative and surprising.
Each Chapter is a Month, each Month includes that month's; history, birthstone, flowers, and astrological signs. From there it is broken into Days, each day includes; God(dess) observance, festivals, birthdays, or history.
The book has beautiful, but simple, illustrations that bring the book to life giving it a medieval feeling.
The book contains no complete Spells, Incantations, or Rituals.
I absolutely loved the concept of the book and would really like to see it in some kind of a calendar format. For each and every day of the year, Gerina adds one or more holiday/celebrational event, legend or historical event from different corners of the world, of course, focusing more on a Wiccan perspective. I find this very inspirational and interesting and find myself still checking this book to this day, to see if there's an intriguing event coming. It was also fascinating to see how many different cultures share similarity in many of these rituals. I wish she elaborated more on these events because the information she shares is just the tip of the iceberg - as with lots of witchcraft oriented books, unfortunately. I wanted to read so much more on many of these legends, ceremonies and rituals but yeah, I can dig it up on the internet, I know. Still very recommended and as mentioned, this is the kind of book one can return to again and again.
Overall this was a pretty interesting book. It was short but packed in a lot of interesting information. I liked the layout of the book and how everyday had something unique to read about. However all the material was very vague and just the bare blunt facts. There was no elaboration on any of the festivals mentioned, it only stated that they occurred without saying why or giving more detail. I liked the book overall and it was a fun little book to read through with some interesting facts but if you were looking for something with more detail and depth I wouldn't suggest it. This book would be terrible to plan a calendar by!
