My review is for ALL books in this series but is not specific to all stories within it so I'm just writing it for this one book.

I enjoyed the diverse realms that this author created with the book, and the unique flavors given to each world. I liked the cooking element that was incorporated into the book - I certainly craved some of the foods I read about after.

My big huge problem with the development of the story is that the heroine and supporting cast are hugely disappointing to me throughout the entire book series. I loved the idea of this character being a victim who is given knowledge of her strength and over time comes to realize her own power so she is no longer dependent on anyone. However, the execution of this storyline from that perspective is lost right away into something else that was such a bummer.

The lover relationships the heroine has with the dudes she meets are such an ultimate crock of disjointed crap I was so disgusted and disappointed as they were introduced. There is ZERO relationship development at all with ANY of the guys she hooks up with. Or even with the heroine's realization of what she needs and then standing up or vocalizing it or even going out to find a man to meet those needs. The author makes this heroine go from someone who is never expecting or hoping for love, or really knows what it is and keeps her frozen there even after having sex and attention from guys (and guys who are leaders or busy dudes who won't even settle - they just want to bone her and be off doing their leadership crap). The heroine clearly knows right from wrong, and has an ethical code of justice because of the abuse she had and so she knows clearly what she doesn't want - but the author keeps this heroine a terrible victim the entire series and traps her from finding a guy who actually cares for her in a sincere way. (and without spoiling it, the reason why with the guys that is revealed at the end of the book is such a crock.)

There is an absolute lack of female friendship development or sisterhood in this series. its just this main heroine and all these dudes the whole time. its really a ridiculous disappointment. There are other epic females in this book but the heroine, the other females and the author have no interest or knowledge of friendship or kinship development)

Also, if you don't want your cooking skills taken advantage of, then don't freakin' cook awesome all the time. The heroine clearly knows how to alter a recipe to keep others from copying her work, so when she has an opportunity for downtime or to not really get noticed as much she never takes it because she's always got to have her cooking skill be what makes her something special.

I also thought the storyline of her children and her point of view as a mother was bullshit. There is no way that someone that abused and needy of love would ever let her kids stray away from her fully.

I just feel so frustrated and turned off from any of this author's other books with a female who has a man or multiple mates, because I know that there will be zero good relationship writing. I kept reading it because I wanted to finally get to the point where something cool would happen with the heroine because I did like her mostly, and I enjoyed the subplots and other big picture story - but nothing ever happened and I was supremely disappointed in the end.

I won't recommend these to my friends.

It wasn't a bad book and I can't imagine who accepted this cover for it. Blond yellowish hair and closed eyes (? not sure if they're closed or just squinted or... she looks like one of those girls making a photo of herself in front of the mirror with pouted "sexy" lips - but without mirror, phone & eyes) with wind blowing at her (there just must be one). Add to that some kind of planets, desert and weird title and viola! you get the cover for Demon Lost

SO the cover doesn't do the book justice and I can seriously understand why so many people liked this book. But it was too fast paced for me, as if the author couldn't hold all the ideas in her head for a nice story development and just had to put it in one book. It has potential, a good heroine (even if I didn't like her), nice side characters (but why are they all males?), understandable family/background problems (but why after military training she was still acting like a baby, keeping her eyes on the floor all the time, afraid of all penis-holders? I get the abusive past but how long can you keep acting like that? 6 years in the army and still no back-bone? Shame on you, girl, shame on you).

So it had potential but it went BLEH pretty fast. Of course its only my opinion...

The prologue was pretty awful. The author would have done just as well to include a list of "items I want the reader to know before beginning this book", as the dialogue that accomplished this task was worse than just reading such a list would have been.

After the prologue things got better. Things were still over the top, but in a much more readable way. I enjoyed getting to know the characters in the Army base our main character wound up on. Her behavior was a bit inconsistent - one minute cowering from her shadow and the next standing up to bullies, telling people exactly what she thought and taking down attackers in battle. Given the begining, a more gradual build up to the strong, fearless would have been better.

There was one thing that really bugged me during this part of the story. From how I read it, there was one character being presented as a love interest and one as a father figure. Then all of a sudden the father figure announces that he'll be courting her when things settle down and started being very obsessive about her. Eww. I was really unsettled by this, as well as confused as the one I had pegged as love interest just kind of smiled like he'd been platonic friend the whole time.

Then partway through all of a sudden we're treated to (another) location and (another) set of new characters. Only these characters are apparently from a previous series of the authors, so no time is really spent introducing them or explaining anything. Basically, knowledge of the previous series is assumed. I peeked at the descriptions of the rest of the book in the series and was annoyed by how it appears things are going to go. I decided as I had no desire to read the rest of the series, I also had no desire to read the previous series to figure out what was going on in this book and walked away.

OK. I gave up on the "Blood Destiny" series after 5 books. I gave this series a shot by reading the first book since the author showed promise on the others before the series went south. Amazingly, I learn in this book that

Anyway, this book was roughly the same as the other books. Weak, beaten heroine who cooks, bunch of guys she doesn't seem to give a hoot about who claim they love her (without any real interaction...so dumb) but then go put her in dangerous situations. Already the first of the men to throw down the "I love you" gauntlet has already mentioned multiple mates and no jealousy (fascinatingly, evidently the "multiple mates" are always multiple males to a female since I don't see any of them asking her to share lmao), and they set up the multiple before this book is even over.

Great action that is well described and interesting but UGH on the relationship side. I don't recommend...

The first thing that I am going to say about this book is…..I never expected it to be so uniquely amazing.

The plot goes:

Reah Desh is a chef in one of her family’s restaurant. She works there with her abusive brother, who she was given to at eight years of age because the man that she thought was her father, turned out to be her grandfather and her brother, the one who physically, emotionally and mentally abused her, raped her mother and was her real father.

Oh and, not to be forgotten is the fact that her grandfather had twenty six sons and seven wives who were alive.

She is the best chef in the realm but she has never gotten the appropriate recognition because her brother stole all the credit and she was too afraid to leave.

That is, until she was conscripted in by the RAA-Reth Alliance Army or some such-and she left for training. But because she was too short and light she was given kitchen work there too until she was transferred to the Governor’s house to do the same.

There, a bastard cook in a fit of immature and misplaced jealousy tampered with her pod during a drill and sent her flying into space and onto and non-Alliance planet.

Here she comes into the greedy grasp of two slavers who then take her to an army outpost on Mendil. She is a cook for the army here too.

This is where she meets her first mate-Aurelis-who is going by the name Aris.

And then there were spawn. They are mindless people a lot like zombies but with a brain. Reah is an expert marksman and she is quickly conscripted into helping the Rangers-the wizards who can see the spawn-and go off with them to hunt these spawn with ranos tech rifles.

The mother bitch of all spawn-the Ra’Ak-attacks the Crown City-where everyone in moved when the life outside its walls grows too dangerous and the spawn begin taking over villages and town. This is the first time that Reah shifts into her High Demon form and kills the bastard Ra’Ak.

But she is hurt in the process and is taken to Le-Ath Veronis, the planet that the Vampire Queen rules with her seventeen mates. They recognize her for who she is and it isn’t long before the ASD, the President of whose organization happens to be one of the Queen’s mates, comes to know of her survival and her presence on one of the Aliiance planets.

So she is conscripted to work for the ASD-Alliance Security Detail-as a special agent.

She then severs all her relationship with her former family and settles in to wait out the five years of service.

Okay so that was the plot.

Generally, I don’t read books like this and I was sure that this was going to be a disappointment. I was prepared for another one of those books with an asshole of a hero and a damsel of a heroine but I was pleasantly- really pleasantly-disappointed.

Sure Reah lived in an abusive household but she grows and matures under the careful care of these new people in her life. Her character grows steadily throughout the book and she continues surprising.

There was also the fact-the fact that gained this book an extra .5*-that the plot didn’t portray the main female protagonist as some savior of the world or its only hope or some such shit. Sure she was important but that was because she was a High Demon female. A rare breed indeed. There was also no “Oh I am so helpless! Come save me someone! Oh there is blood on the floor! I am going to faint! Oh that man was holding a rifle! How could he not have a conscience! Oh my people were killed in bombings! But surely the enemy is only misunderstood!” shit.

Also her first mate, Auri, is not an asshole but a nice man. I like that in the love interest of the protag. He is strong and a lion of a man but not over bearing or coddling when the former and the latter are not warranted.

Also, the book was not just about the heroine or the hero. There are bigger things going on and a bigger plot taking place. That is one of my favorite qualities in a book. They are part of a bigger universe-literally-and that universe is more important than the lost of them.

All in all, I liked this book and I am looking forward to reading its next installment.

And quite frankly-multiple hot males, some of whom are aliens-mated to one female? Why the fuck wouldn’t I read the next book?

SPOILERS THROUGHOUT:
I liked this book. I felt like the pacing was just right and there something was constantly going on. I would definitely recommend reading the Blood Destiny series before reading this one. I understand that it is big, but if you don't, you will definitely be spoiled. I understand why someone would be confused if they read this series first. I read the other series first but if I didn't, I would definitely be lost. Connie didn't explain some things that if you hadn't read Blood Destiny first, you wouldn't understand.
I really enjoyed the mix of old and new characters. It was interesting and definitely a new experience to see some of my favorite characters years later. It was entertaining to see Lissa, her mates, her children, and other characters from Reah's point of view. Reah had never met them before so it was nice to see another person's perception of the old characters.
I really liked Reah. When hearing about her childhood, I felt so bad for her. I was horrified when she told Wyatt what her older brother/father did to her. It made me sick to think of a beautiful person like Reah going through something like that. Reah was small in size and strength but she made up for it with heart. She never gave up and didn't let her shortcomings put her down. I also liked that she was strong mentally and physically. Reah didn't just beat her enemy by using a weapon, she used her mind. I really liked watching her figure things out. I also liked when Reah turned into her Thifilatha form. I didn't see that coming because most High Demon females can't shift. Once she turned, I wanted to scream "You go girl" so badly. I think Connie just barely touched on the potential Reah has.
I like all of Reah's love interests so far. I am worried how she will look at Tory after him biting her in his Thifilathi form at the end, but it wasn't his fault, instincts just took over. I'm just not sure Reah will see it that way because she has control when in her Thifilatha form. I am also not 100% sure that Ry is going to be a mate for her. I thought so at first because Reah said she was attracted to him, but he seemed to back off after Tory expressed his interest. I kind of hope that Ry is a mate of Reah's because I think they could be good together.
Overall, I really liked this book and I think it is a great start to the series. I am dying to know what will happen after that cliffhanger at the end. I will definitely be continuing on with the series and I can't wait to read the next book.

Umm okay… so I started this book without realizing that it was a spinoff of the “Blood Destiny series” by Connie Suttle. This was why I felt like I was dropped into the middle of a story and was missing some key parts. It took me some time to catch up, but once I did, I really began to enjoy the book.

Yes, Reah was a bit of a Mary Sue but not in the “I’m so perfect you should worship me,” way so I forgave her that one fault. And the second part of the book had my head throbbing with all the new characters and their messed up names. I definitely liked the first part more than the second but I’m still hooked and am moving on to the next book right away.

Oh, and if you’re looking for some nooky it’s not gonna happen in this book. The author skims right over that somewhere close to the end.

I am giving this 3.5 stars. This book is going back to her original writing style that got me hooked on her. It has good characters and something of a plot that goes through the whole book. The reason I can not give it 4 stars because she stops the book in the middle of the story. I think she was trying to leave a cliff hanger, but she does not do a good job in creating one. A cliff hanger should leave you wanting new adventures based on the current storyline; it should not stop in the middle of the current storyline. That is a major problem I have been seeing in her later books (maybe in the 1st one also, but I read the 1st few all ast one time, so it would not have stood out as much).

Reah is a young girl, broken and cowed by her family. She is conscripted into the military only to receive the same bullying treatment at the hands of her military colleagues. When a horrible prank goes wrong, she finds herself on a hostile planet, enslaved and having to pretend to be a local to avoid execution.

I wasn't sure how the author was going to pull this one off as her main character started out too afraid to even meet anyone’s eyes. Reah’s sole coping technique was to fade into the background, to obey every order and hope no one lost their temper and beat the crap out of her. Her only solace is in her love of cooking – it’s in the kitchen that she can let her creativity and spirit come to life. Unfortunately, even in the kitchen, Reah finds herself a victim. Demon Lost begins as a Cinderella story without the mice and fairy godmother, but quickly takes an action turn as Reah is forced out of the kitchen to battle horrific demons intent on “turning” or eating everyone they find.

Reah does show significant growth in this book, but if you expect a 180 degree shift then you’ll be disappointed. I’m glad her growth is gradual as it wouldn't be realistic for someone this broken to become a kick-ass, confident heroine by the end of 300 pages. I think the change she manages to accomplish is remarkable, but she’s still clearly has got a long way to go – especially when it comes to standing up for herself.

The men in the book piss me off beyond belief. Yes, the bastards are real bastards, but even the ones who are “good” treat Reah like she’s an object to be used for their needs. Friends pay lip service to how they respect her newfound skills, then pat her on the head and dismiss her like a child. Even the man who supposedly to love her treats her as a possession. He “informs” her that once their military assignment ends he’ll be courting her. Reah doesn't protest, she just goes along with the whole thing – she’s learned to numbly obey to keep herself alive, and it seems that habit is hard to break. This makes the love interest side of the story seem rather creepy, and makes the guy come across as obsessed and controlling.

But somehow I loved this book and will continue reading the series. I felt Reah’s personal journey would be a long one, and was engaged enough with her character to want to go along for the ride. I can’t help but want to see such a damaged woman blossom and come to life – even if it takes several novels. I also really enjoyed the fast pace and action in the book. This isn't a story that goes deeply into Reah’s (or the other character’s) feelings, so it’s not heart-wrenching. It’s an action packed sci-fi fantasy with a very sympathetic main character. I’m eager to get to the next in the series, and I hope that Reah is able to open up a whole can of whoop-ass on these men by the end of the next book. Otherwise I may have to take matters into my own hand and grab my trusty riding crop.

Be aware that there is a rape scene in this book. I found it well written, but it may be an unwelcome trigger for some readers.

I am so very uncertain about this book.
Yeah, I loved the writing, the plot was very interesting. It had an abundance of characters and subplots. I loved the action. I loved the development.
What I didn't love was the romance part. There wasn't any. I hated the treatment towards our main heroine, Reah. She went through too much, way too much. And everybody treated her like she didn't have any word to say. All the major decisions were made for her. I am not sure about the multiple mate thing. I am a one man kind of girl and this wasn't really up my alley. But I tried to understand where it came from. I tried to understand that world. I am aware that this is a spin-off from Ms. Suttle's other series and maybe that's why it didn't ring many bells for me. Although I wasn't very aware of all the characters and background I enjoyed the story. I just hope Reah wouldn't be such a doormat on the romance part of her life.
What was worse was that there wasn't even an passionate scene. NOTHING that made my blood boil. Nothing to make me believe in the love interests. It was just plain put out there that it is what it is. The love didn't develop in any way. And the last scene left a bitter taste for me.
I am willing to read book two because it also intrigued me enough to give it 4 stars.

I loved the plot of the book and for the most part it was very good. Except for any of the parts that involve romance or attraction in any way.

All goes well and all of a sudden this girl who suffered at the hands of everyone really finds herself called my love this and my love that and having sex with the guy I had no idea she even liked ....

Then she gets raped by the demon creature , gets fed blood without her knowledge, gets a lot of shocks of that sort : people doing things to her or deciding important stuff for her without consulting her in any way... And she just sort of crawls into herself, doesn't get mad or angry enough to speak up...bullshit ! These people are strangers for gods sake!

She seems like a talented and intelligent young lady and I expected her to grow as a person...but no, apparently that's not the case. She's one of those Too Stupid To Live heroines that could do so much fucking better and the writer keeps her a victim...disappointing really.

I started on the second book just in case it would get better...it didn't . Had to quit the book not even 15% in! HAD TO. It pains me because I love reading and I was really rooting for Reah

She had a boy!!! Okay so blissfully happy that I have had three doses of Connie Suttle in the last week - haven't really got anything done otherwise but who cares! Loved this, new character who when joins up with all the characters we know and have wanted to kill at various times for hurting Lissa now get to make bad decisions for Reah! Next generation and still mucking up! Great to have cooking back though groaned when reached another cliff hanger ending - seriously these are not needed, I automatically buy so please don't make me wait in suspense when I already have withdrawal symptoms from this world. Recommend this but you need to start with her other series first otherwise you won't have a clue who most of these people are!

I really liked the heroine in this book and all the details of her being a chef are interesting

The flat greed of the secondary characters and cruelty was too over simplified for me.

The pace of the book was slow which was fine but it took forever for the romance to come about and then when it turned out to be a cliffhanger, I was done.

intriguing

I love the story and the mystery. I like how the story flows around the heroine. I'm not crazy about the heroine and how weak she is portrayed but her determination makes up for it. I'm definitely enjoying the characters and how the drama unfolds.

This was the most disappointing book I read in a while.
I tried to give it a go (I do love to cook) but at the end I have to say the it had completely no sense. Like if someone connected several short stories into a book but forgot to give them a convincing plot to keep it together. Reading the second part of the book not only I had a feeling that it was a completely different story but that also I missed a good amount of pages from the beginning!
I don't recommend.

I am just happy to get caught up in the right time line again with Lissa! Even if she not the POV. I don't like going backwards in time when I read a series unless it's a part of that book as a memory, or written back and forth in the same book.

As always Connie Suttle did an amazing job with this new series. Her books are very addictive. Reah is very similar to Lissa both in background and appearance - petite, light hair, light eyes, small curves, with abusive parent.
There is just as much backstabbing and drama that I come to expect from this author.
Reah is sent to military service even though she should not qualify but because of her cooking skills she ends up cooking for the governor. The governor's chef is jealous of Reah and tampers with her pod sending her to another world.
Reah meets the spawn of RA'TA and Aurelius - with a different name.
You can't never expect what happens next.

I’ve read and re-read most of Connie Suttle’s books, Demon Lost being the most recent one and I couldn’t put it down. I gave this book 4.5 stars, but couldn’t put that as my rating.Demon Lost is from Reah’s point of view, and is an add on to the Blood Destiny series. I enjoyed the way Connie wrote the book and how she added in the bigger surprises at the end. I liked the how Reah’s character was well put together, Reah was still strong even though everyone was mean because of their jealousy (even her family). The book was well structured and it was never to slow. I would recommend this book to people who enjoy reading Connie Suttle’s books and good fiction lovers.

Connie Suttle does it again! I LOVED this book! I have been in love with this author since I started the Blood series and the High Demon series does not disappoint! Oh and the ending!! I cannot wait for the next one and I love that I do not have to wait long. I love Connie Suttle's writing, I finished the book in 2 days, and only because I could not stay up till O-dark thirty to read. Another wild ride full of action and love! READ THIS BOOK! as well as the blood Series, you will not be disappointed!

I've read the other books Connie has published - all of Lissa and Ashe - and I have thoroughly enjoyed them. I have been waiting very impatiently for the next Ashe book, so I was less than thrilled when this book came out. However, I've liked all of her other books, so I figured I'd buy it, but I wasn't holding out high hopes for it. I mean, after all, what else was there to say? Ok, I was wrong. I loved Reah and her misadventures, especially the cooking parts, and I now have ANOTHER series by Connie that I'm following! Good thing the lady is prolific and fast.

Reah has lived her life with her brother being horrible to her, and the rest of her family just as bad. Then one day she has to serve the alliance, and she's all for getting away from her family. But, things may have just gotten somewhat worse. Now, she's starting to learn things about herself that she never knew, and she's also falling for someone who seems to be helping her. However, that could end up being a major mistake.

This book was really good, and it really opened up this whole world for Reah and her friends. I really enjoyed this one and I look forward to more in this series.

Introducing Reah Desh, what an up bringing she had.

The man whom everyone thinks is her father is her grandfather and the man who abused her as a child thinks he is her brother but he is her father. Shesh that was a mouth full.

From the pot to the frying pan Reah left home because her grandfather though her worthless and didn't want any of his sons to go to war.

She transformed, killed a Ra'aK then got a mate, fainted, got shot, almost die, went undercover, then find another mate that lost consciousness to his beast and almost killed her.

Yes and this is just book 1.

Wow! Wow! Wow! Wow! Wow! A great start to a promising new series by Connie Suttle. I love, absolutely love, how it ties in with the Blood Destiny series! It kept me reading straight through the night until I finished it. Even after I finished it, I didn't want the story to end! And what an ending! Can't wait to read the next one!

I liked the idea of the story more than the execution of it. It was very confusing at times and the build up of the romance was non existent. I didn't get it at all. I thought the character was some older guy, then next thing I know they love each other. It seemed very sloppy at times with missing information for a smooth read. Otherwise, enjoyable.

Love Demon lost

I love Reah! She is someone I would like to bring home and keep safe and let her have her own life. This is one of my favourite series. it doesn't matter how many times I read it I get the same emotions every time. Love this author and have read all her books multiple times.

I have loved the blood series and finding that this new series is joined to that one is great. Once again I'm confused by the huge cast of Lissa's husbands, but I'm enjoying this. Having another heroine who is as mistreated as Lissa was is a bit of a downer, but that won't stop me from devouring the whole series.

There are a lot of names and a lot of them are similar. I have 0% hope of remember more than 4, lol. Lissa (not this series FMC but the prior one) appears in this series and she has 17 mates! WTH, that's way toooooooooooooo many! I can only hope this FMC has a max of 5, anything over that is just crazy and can't follow.
