She earned her MFA in poetry from Boston University, where she was also awarded the Academy of American Poets Prize in 2009. She was recently awarded an Individual Artist grant from the Arkansas Arts Council.
She is also the author of three chapbooks of poetry: Where Nothing Can Grow (Batcat Press, 2012), The Whitest Sheets (Maverick Duck Press, 2011), and Something Like Flight (Sargent Press, 2010).
Her poetry has been published in 32 Poems, Christianity and Literature, Indiana Review, Literary Mama, Southern Humanities Review, storySouth, and elsewhere. Renee teaches for the Poetry Barn online writing workshops.

The poetry in Renee Emerson’s chapbook is truly very intriguing and enveloping. I absolutely love the use of color and the association with cleanliness (and lack thereof) that I noticed in several of her poems. I feel that this idea can be seen well in her poem “Breadcrumbs” which says, “She thinks of the flowers / she saw on the mountain: / white like breadcrumbs / in the tangled confusion / of fallen leaves and branches.”
I only recently discovered Renee Emerson, and after hearing her read at my university and reading The Whitest Sheets, I am hooked. I’m so glad that I came across her.

An excellent collection, but I feel that there were several poems that just didn't fit at all and detracted from the whole.
