Christian, an evil corporate vampire has lit the day candle, which allows vampires to walk in the sun. Vampire Hunter Celadore must set out to destroy the candle, only her soul has been bounced into the comatose body of Evelyn Massey, an 11yr old girl. Plagued by the ghost of the actual Evelyn, Celadore is eventually joined by Sam, the over-eager next door neighbor, and her old Jams, the only Frankenstein ever born of two others; Wax, Celadore's ex-boyfriend; And Ness, Celadore's business partner, tooth fairy, & qualified masseuse. Adventure, hilarity, and surprises ensue in a world where even magic isn't safe from capitalism.
Likable characters, but the art was frequently so dark that I couldn't tell what was happening in a panel, and the visual grammar was either very bad or the comic had been too aggressively edited because even when I could tell what was going on in several panels in a row, I often couldn't piece them together into a coherent sequence. As a result the story was hard to understand and it seemed like much of it was missing.
Celadore is a fun read- it's high-concept adventure with highly likable characters. The artwork is great and quite expressive- the only issue there is that sometimes the art is very dark, which makes the sequences harder to follow. There are two negative points about this book, both of which I attribute to the publisher. First, the artwork seems a lot nicer than the paper; I think that his work would be better suited for a glossier, heavier weight paper. Second, there are no page numbers, which makes both finding a place and describing a specific sequence extremely difficult. However, those flaws are not fatal to the work, and I liked it.
I liked this book. It kept me entertained and it was different from most books, and it wasn't a cheesy vampire novel like I expected it to be when I found out it was about vampires. The one thing I don't like about it though is the end. Towards the middle-end you begin to develop a series of questions that you can't wait to have answered at the ens, but after the book finished, I was still left with all those questions inside my head. They didn't tie together all the loose ends and you don't quite know what happened at the end fo the book.
A great story and concept all 'round. The action scenes were drawn somewhat confusingly. The book was printed on a rough paper washing out a good deal of the panels. I love the authors style so it is really a shame it was difficult to see.
This was actually really good, but the vampire story was really short and could have been fleshed out a little more. The transitions were a little rough as well and I would love to see Evelyn's story explored. It's a cool little world that's been created and I would love to see more.
I enjoyed the artwork and the overall storytelling, but this is definitely a flawed work. There were several instances where the story jumps/skips, and I was left wondering if pages had gotten stuck together or something because I was lost.
Liked the art, but the storyline(s) were kind of confusing. It's challenging to keep things straight when there's body swapping involved. I'd probably understand more if I followed the webcomic, but I feel that a book should be able to stand on its own. Not sure this title quite achieved that.
