My Championship Year

Rate this book
Jamie Whincup is the reigning Champion of V8 Supercars. At 27 years old he is already being compared to Peter Brock and will soon have overtaken Mark Skaife's record. This is Jamie's diary: a year, beginning with Bathurst 2009, when he aims for his third successive title and sets himself a challenge never before achieved—to win consecutive titles in two different makes of car. This is the view from the driver's seat—unprecedented access to life on and off the track, insights into the competition and how Jamie copes with the pressure, his views on his competitors, how he deals with the highs and lows of racing and the truth behind the decision to switch from Ford to Holden—it's everything you want and need to know.

Wonderfully written account of a year in the life of a V8 Supercar driver. Felt I was right along side for the ride so to speak. Loved it! Highly recommended.

As a Holden V8 Supercar fan this book was a great insight into what a V8 Supercar driver has to endure when they are racing and the lead to the races and all the ups and downs of winning and losing. Thanks Jamie for letting us into your world of racing, I learned a lot about your sport, the cars, the different tracks, how you prepare for a race, how you felt about how you performed at each race and also how you strive to achieve your goals of being the best. I had a few laughs at some of the antics you all get up to and enjoyed reading how you use your down time with an insight into your family and how you got into racing.
I have been a fan of Jamie ever since the change of Triple 8 racing to Holden in 2009 from Ford and this book explained well how Jamie took the change in his stride and wanted to keep his dream alive of maybe winning 3 championships in a row in 2010.
Seeing Jamie race last year at Bathurst 1000 was a huge thrill for me, although he didn't win...there is always next time.
A great book to make you feel that you are on the wild ride of racing with Jamie Whincup.

Jamie Whincup - My Championship Year is a great book for Motorsport Enthusiasts. Jamie Whincup is one of Australasia's Finest V8 Drivers. This book I gave a 5-Star Rating because it takes you into a year of a V8 Championship in the 2009/10 season in a very clear and descriptive way. Takes you into the eyes of the driver and everyday team life around the V8 scene. I quite like V8's so this a great book for followers of this sport.
