This edition has been enlarged by adding three chapters to the already existing thirty three chapters. Chapters included are Leaning Tower of Pisa; Reinforced Earth Embankment; and Anchored Earth Construction. The construction of the leaning tower of Pisa (Italy) was started in 1173 and finally completed in 1370 During construction period itself the tower started tilting. How the tilt has been stopped represents a great geotechnical engineering feat. All these have been briefly given and are not normally available in English literature. The reinforced and anchored earth techniques being presently used in India are described in the next two chapters.
