The Groenendael dog, sometimes known as the Belgian Sheepdog, is one of four Belgian Shepherd dogs. While they are identical to their 'cousins' in many ways, they are the only ones who have a jet black, lengthy coat. They are inherently sportive, while being muscular and agile. When you combine this with their adaptability, intelligence, and drive to please, they excel at a wide range of activities and jobs. They were once used as herding dogs, but now they are more usually seen as show dogs and companion animals. They will guard their masters and territory at all means, never exhibiting fear, because they are devoted to people they love.
