After wrecking her car and waking with amnesia, reporter Grace Morgan is shocked to hear she'd left the husband she loves (Police Detective Ray Morgan)for another man. It can't be true! Can it? She’s determined to remember, even if it kills her. And it just might. When bullets start to fly, Ray is forced to take the wife he thinks faithless on the lam while he figures out who wants her dead.

Police Detective Ray Morgan and his wife, Grace, an up-and-coming reporter, have it all – jobs they love, a nice home, and the perfect marriage. Or so it seemed. But when Grace announces that she’s leaving Ray for another man… well, no one ever saw that coming, especially not Ray. Stunned and devastated by Grace’s revelation, Ray can only watch as the woman he loves walks out the door. He can't imagine anything being worse than this, but then just a few hours later he gets a phone call telling him that Grace has been in a car accident. The angry, betrayed part of his heart tells him to keep his distance, to let her lover care for her now, but the husband part, the part that still loves her, wants to go to her, to make sure she’s okay. When Grace claims no recollection of the hours before her accident, Ray can’t be sure whether she’s faking the amnesia or not. He wants to believe her, but doesn’t want to be hurt again, but can he trust her… does he want to?
Saving Grace is the second book in Norah Wilson’s Serve and Protect series, and another exciting read. When we first met Grace and Ray in Guarding Suzannah, we learned that Ray is well liked and respected by his fellow officers, devoted to his job and very good at what he does. But despite Ray's camaraderie with the guys, both on and off the job, Grace has never quite felt like she fit in, never felt that she was really accepted by the wives of the officers Ray works with. She’s smart, pretty, chic, and perfectly proper… not at all like the other women, so of course things might be awkward for all of them. But what I loved about Grace in this story is that we get to see the woman she really is, her heart and soul, and we also see that the car accident is probably the best thing that could have ever happened to their marriage.
Now, you might be thinking, 'Oh, no! Not another amnesia story!!' because yeah, let's be honest… that storyline has been done time and time again, especially in romantic suspense, but I have to say, I really enjoyed this version of it! It’s fresh, exciting, emotionally charged… and watching Grace and Ray, these two people who care deeply for one another, try to salvage their marriage by learning the truth about what led up to Grace’s supposed affair and ultimately her accident and amnesia… it was both heartbreaking and heartwarming, and in the end, absolutely beautiful.
The bottom line - Once again Ms. Wilson has created a story that fits her characters, and characters that make the story. Even though there were moments of predictability, I enjoyed Saving Grace a lot. It’s romantic, passionate and very sexy, and I’m soooo looking forward to reading the next book in the series, Protecting Paige and anything else I can get my hands on by Norah Wilson!
I didn't expect to like this book so much. You see, normally I DESPISE a heroine who is a reporter. Hate. Loathe. Run from the room screaming. But I read this because I was looking for something short and standalone that could get me through a boring shift. I was not disappointed.
Ray is a Canadian cop, drinking himself into oblivion. His wife has told him she's in love with another man and has left him and their marriage behind. He never saw it coming. Hours later though, one of his colleagues calls with the shocking news that his wife was in a horrible rollover accident and they have taken her to the hospital - condition unknown. Despite his extreme anger and if we're being honest here - hurt pride - he goes to the hospital where he's told she has a brain injury and has no recollection of the past few weeks.
No recollection of leaving him.
Ray takes Grace home to recover. He doesn't want to, that's the last thing he wants to do - be around the wife who betrayed him - but a small voice inside of him can't leave her to the wind. That small part of him that still loves her.
Grace wakes up in the hospital with no idea of what happened. Her last vivid memory was from weeks ago. She doesn't understand why the husband she loves so much is distant and cold. Why he won't sleep in the bed with her. He's not being mean to her exactly, just....unfeeling. Neutral. As if she was living with a stranger. When things finally come to a head and Ray tells her exactly why he won't touch her, she is devastated. She has no memory of another man, an affair or leaving him.
This is where it gets good, boys and girls!
I loved that the author didn't shy away from honest and sometimes brutal emotion for both Ray and Grace. Ray alternately beats himself up wondering if he could have done more to keep Grace interested, and indulges in hurt pride asking himself why he wasn't good enough for her, and thinking of her with another man. His grief really got to me a few times and I found myself tearing up, knowing what he didn't know about Grace's situation. Grace for her part is devastated. There's just no other way to describe it. She can't remember another man or an affair. She can't imagine why she would ever leave the man she loves more than herself. All the "evidence" points to just that though and it makes for some really emotional scenes between them.
But now we start to find out why Grace had her wreck. Why someone is now trying to kill Ray. And why she herself is in danger. All that ties in to her job as a reporter and that's why I almost always LOATHE reporter stories. You see, and in retaliation they have targeted her cop husband and herself. When Ray this takes yet another good angsty turn!
The only reason I'm not giving this a 5 star review is that the ending turned into a mini Harlequin love fest, all wrapped up in a neat bow. I would have preferred a grittier happy ending. All in all, a great read though. 4.5 stars
Mystery romance. Heroine has an accident and amnesia. Apparently she was leaving with her new beau, but as days go by some strange accidents happen and the hero and the heroine understand there’s more about it. I won’t spoil, because it’s a mystery and it’s good too. No cheating and no ow om, there’s a bit of angst because both believe she was having an affair and was going to leave him. Of course it was not like that.
Saving Grace is book 2 in the To Serve and Protect series by Norah Wilson. If you have already read book 1 i.e. Guarding Suzannah, you would have already met both Ray and Grace Morgan who were a couple even then. At first, I was surprised to know that book 2 would focus on Grace and Ray, a couple who already seemed to have everything going for them. Little did I know that there was indeed a story worth telling, and a lot of hurdles to be crossed before they both could embrace their love for each other in the truest form.
Saving Grace starts at a point that we rarely come across in romance novels. Ray who is reeling from the bombshell that Grace, his wife of 4 years has left him for another man gets the news that Grace has been involved in an accident. Helpless to do anything else, Ray makes his way towards the hospital, reluctant as he is to put his already bruised and battered emotions on the line. There he finds out that Grace has no recollection whatsoever of leaving him, nor that of her association with any other man apart from her husband.
Nursing Grace back to health as she struggles to deal with her memory loss seems to be the cruelest form of torture for Ray who can't help but feel protective towards his wife even though his heart practically bleeds every time he lays eyes on her. Grace who has no idea of what she has done to earn that cold and distant aloofness that she finds in Ray's eyes is determined that she wouldn't lose the man she loves in this world above everything else.
When Ray comes face to face with the fact that both their lives are in danger, and that there is no way of identifying the threat as long as Grace's memory keeps eluding her, both of them are forced to go into hiding to figure out what to do and to evade those who are hellbent on seeing them buried six feet under. It is this period of forced intimacy that proves to be the pivotal point in the healing process of their relationship, a journey that just left a permanent lump in my throat as I read along.
I loved the way how Norah managed to completely surprise me with this one. I was prepared for more of the same as Guarding Suzannah when I picked this one up. But boy, was I proven wrong right from the first page itself when emotions seeped right through my e-reader and made me impatient to find out every little bit I could about both Ray and Grace. In the end, I couldn't have asked for a better story, nor a better or more fitting ending for a couple who literally goes through emtional hell and back to finally reach their very well deserved happily ever after. And for someone who rarely cries over books or movies, Norah definitely managed to do just that to me today.
The one thing that totally made the book for me was Ray's character. From the first page itself, oh wait let me backtrack, ever since I encountered his character in Guarding Suzannah, I have been dying to know what would make the overly polished and controlled Raymond Morgan tick. And Norah certainly delivered on all counts with his character as he totally and irrevocably laid seige on every single emotion I had left to spare and then some. He is tender, generous, kind and on top of all that the way he takes care of Grace even when his heart is being torn into pieces just makes him one of the best heroes ever! And when he does finally let go of his legendary control in the bedroom, all my senses joined up and chanted, "Oh yes Ray baby, you should let go more often!".
Grace's character is not one to be left behind as I gush on about the things that worked for me. When I started reading, I was totally prepared to hate Grace's guts cos in my world, there is nothing worse than hurting a delcious hero for whom my heart just bleeds. But then again, I should have known better and from the moment Grace finds comfort in Ray's arms whilst at the hospital, I knew absolutely that there was no way that this woman could hurt the man she loves intentionally. I found myself in awe of the way Grace shaped up to a totally new and better version, one with a backbone of steel that earned my wholehearted approval as she sets out to right what she has done wrong and of course make Ray give ALL of himself to her.
Recommended for fans of delicious heroes, fans of romantic suspense and of course fans of the series and Norah Wilson. This is a series that I have a feeling will just continue to get better with each book!
Very emotional and angsty read about a wife who abandons her husband because of another man. But on her way out of town, she has an accident, gets knocked in the head and forgets why she was leaving. The husband is crushed thinking that his wife could have betrayed him but nurses back to health anyway. Then, they find some weird stuff that doesn't add up and they have to uncover the mystery as to why she left the man she loved deeply.
There's a lot of angst on both sides. She cannot believe she could have been unfaithful and the husband cannot help but keep asking what he did wrong. This back and forth was the best part of the book because you saw genuine feelings of hurt, betrayal, anger, guilt, you name it.
The weakest part of the book was the romantic suspense plot. I couldn't believe Grace as an investigative journalist - she didn't seem too bright...that plan of hers didn't make much sense (a worldly woman wouldn't trust the word of a crime boss) and I didn't like how easy said crime boss came down, specially when Ray had been saying he had been so careful.
I really liked the setting in Canada and wished we'd had more detail about the town (for a while it was difficult to figure out how big or small it was.)
I enjoyed it though and will probably check out the rest of the series (I read it without reading the first in the series and didn't feel like I missed anything so it can be read as a standalone.)
3.5 stars rounded up to 4. I just preferred book 1, which I gave 4 stars to. Got as a kindle freebie.
Still, this was a hugely enjoyable read.
Grace Morgan left her husband Police Detective Ray Morgan, stating she was leaving for another man, but that very night is involved in a car accident and has no memory of leaving her husband or indeed another man. Ray is advised to not tell her this, as it could do more harm than good, but struggles as he still loves his wife but is dealing with feelings of betrayal, while Grace is confused and wondering why Ray has changed toward her. Soon other things start to happen and it appears all may not be as it seems.
It is very well written. You could feel the pain and confusion that both characters felt. How they were both struggling with the situation they had found themselves in, but still loved each other.
It got a touch silly when they were on the run and in disguise, but it was still a hugely enjoyable read that was probably more in the suspense side of romantic suspense than the first book.
I just wish, because it happens with every story with amnesia in it that I knocked off half a star for that, as it is just so predictable.
The second in the series To Serve and Protect. I didn't read the first one but I think I will. This story involves a married couple. Grace, the wife, tells her cop husband, Ray, she loves someone else and leaves him. The story begins when Ray gets the call that his wife has been in a car accident. Grace is experiencing some memory loss and doesn't understand how she could betray her husband like that. But all is not as it seems sometimes and Grace and Ray find themselves on the lam from a killer.
I was unsure about reading this after seeing the synopsis. It really didn't sound good to me. But I was glad I gave it a chance. There were a few things that didn't seem feasible to me but this is fiction and nothing was too obvious. Overall I found it to be a good read. Highly recommended!
Where to start, where to start. I have come to the conclusion that I shouldn't even start reading a Norah Wilson book without having the time to sit down and read it with no interruptions. My husband found that I can become very snippy if he interrupts my reading of her books. I really enjoy romantic suspense novels and this definitely falls into my top five in that category. It probably has something to do with the fact that the guys are cops and being that my ball in chain is one I tend to love these types of stories. Well enough about how great I find Norah's books, let's get into some reviewing shall we?
We are introduced to Ray and Grace Morgan from Guarding Suzannah. They seem like the perfect couple. At the beginning of this book, we are thrown for a loop when Grace tells Ray that she is leaving him for someone else. So while getting nice and drunk, not thinking it could get any worse, Ray gets a call from his boss, Quigg (who we met in the first book). Grace has been in a car accident and is asking for him. After Quigg convinces him to go see Grace, he realizes quick that she can't remember what has happened the past couple days. Not knowing what else to do, Ray brings Grace home to help her heal in the hopes that she will remember her lost memories. It becomes perfectly clear how important it is that she remembers when bullets start flying and his and Grace's lives are on the line.
Grace has no clue why Ray is being so distant. She can freeze ice cubes on his shoulder with how cold his is being towards her. When she tries to make a pass at him, Ray finally tells her the last thing she would think would come out of his mouth. She had an affair with someone else and was leaving him when she got her accident. Tired of being stepped on and treated with kid gloves, she decides to put her big girl panties on and deal with her situation. The more she finds out, the more their lives are put in danger. What is she not able to remember that is putting their lives in stake and can she protect her and Ray's heart from getting hurt again in the process?
I love when I get to that pivotal point in Norah's books where my heart is racing from the action that is going on. Oh and I'm pretty sure at one point I was talking to myself while reading I was so into the book. At least my husband wasn't around to give me weird looks or point out that I am a weirdo. ;) Thanks Norah for such a great series so far!!!!!
Not a fan of crime mystery stories but these two were a wonderful couple totally devoted to each other and hero was an angel thinking his wife had a lover and was pregnant with his child and still treating her with respect and love. And poor heroine had amnesia and was tortured by thinking she could have cheated on her husband whom she loves with all her heart! Nice angsty read!
This book started out really good and lost momentum and my attention in the last 1/3.
The Good: I love a good amnesia themed book. I don't know why. They all tend to be pretty similar to tell the truth. I just like the way we readers discover who the character is and what makes them tick along with said character. Or, in Grace's case, find out why she was really leaving her husband who she loves with her whole heart (according to Grace, herself). This book really fit the bill when it comes to that amnesia theme. She can't remember her accident or the few days before it happened so we discover her motives as she remembers them.
Also, the addition of some unaccounted for money in Grace's possession, a sniper shooting at Ray, the couple running from the cops and the bad guys, someone sabotaging Ray's vehicle, and Ray's animosity, while trying to take care of Grace despite her leaving him for another man made this book pretty darned good....until it wasn't.
The Bad: Grace's character seemed to be all over the place. She's described one way and acts completely different making her feel bipolar rather than a woman growing into a character of strength. The book keeps telling the reader that both couples were so in love and their relationship was pretty darned good but finding out that it wasn't all rainbows and lollipops made me feel lied to rather than in awe of their relationship development. And the sexual aspect of the book felt off also. One sex scene even made the characters wince and when they finally came together in reconciled sexual bliss the timing couldn't have been more off. When one purposely creates mayhem for very bad people perhaps having all night monkey sex isn't the best idea nor, come to think about it, is running out for donuts the next morning a great move either. But Gracie wanted a honey cruller! Whatever!
With the plot, frankly, I was a little confused as to how the heck Ray was able to put Grace's puzzle together when she left him for the second time, or as I like to say, when Grace became TSTL. Why yes, a fledgling reporter/trophy wife can totally take out a mob boss/human trafficker/all-around bad guy because she found her husband's gun and believes in herself. Once again....WHATEVER! Oh and the surprise reveal about Grace's condition....not a surprise. Which could lead to another rant if I'm not careful. Nope not gonna say it...yes I will! What woman in her right mind would willingly try to get killed knowing it would be a death sentence for her unborn child? There, I totally spoiled the big reveal for you. Speaking of reveals....what in the world was the author thinking adding a secret backstory for Ray in the last couple of pages? Completely unnecessary at that point in the book and only proved how much this couple shouldn't be together since their relationship was built on lies and disappointment anyway. Oh and Ray's police nickname....Razor? Not super cool if Dodgeball is your favorite movie. Instead of seeing Ray as an ass kicking super cop I kept seeing him as part of Team Douche along with Blazer, Laser and Me'Shell.
In a Nutshell: While the last 1/3 of the book fell apart for me not everyone will see it that way and I would never try to sway someone away from Saving Grace because of my personal peeves. The first part of the book was actually pretty good and I'll continue reading the rest of the series because of it.
Just as the first. This story is good. But if you are a person, like me, the errors in this book will pull you from the story. I hope the author has revised and released another version with the errors fixed.
This installment is probably my least favorite of the series. I love the author's writing style and her ability to write a short story without making it seem like it is a short story. She adds the right amount of words, suspense, romance, and intrigue to make the reader feel like they walked away reading a 300 page novel.
It was interesting reading this installment since I am reading the series backwards. I started with Book 3 where Grace and Ray are introduced as a very happy couple and somewhere Ray mentions about how he and Grace just went through some problems. So to start the story now made it more interesting for me.
The reason why this is my least favorite is because there was a moment where Grace did a TSTL thing that left me shaking my head and saying "really"? It did not ruin the story for me but it was a little far fetch for me since she went from being demure to being I am going to go after my husband's attacker. Like I said, I still enjoyed the book it was just something that stood out for me. I did like the story line. However, if I had to name my favorite book in the series so far: Hands down it is Needing Nita.
Wow! That was great! I loved the emotions in this story, they were really the suspense part of this romantic suspense! Fortunately for me, and my tendency to hold my breath, the true suspense was pretty short lived! I really enjoy stories about married couples who work their way through trauma and come out better on the other side! I am going to be looking for more from this author!!
An action packed contemporary romance. Who doesn't love a cop in uniform or undercover with his wife and on the run. Well written and fast paced. Too good to put down!
Saving Grace really touched my heart as I read page after page. Ray is sitting at home drinking, after finding out his wife left him for another man. He gets a call that Grace had a wreck and is in the hospital. Ray puts his bruised and battered emotions to the side, when he goes to the hospital. He finds out his wife has amnesia. She has no recollection of leaving him, or ever have another man in her life. Once Grace is back home Ray takes care of her. When he finds out their life is both endangered he will do anything to protect his wife. I loved the way they loved, and took care of one another throughout this book.
If you want to curl up with a good romance, action book, this is a Great book! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
Here is a sample from chapter 4 Ray heard the SUV’s tires squeal. Atta girl. Go Grace. Go now. Except when he glanced her way, he saw she’d pulled a u-turn and was barreling towards him. Christ, what was she thinking? A buller pinged off the sidewalk close enough to send a shard of concerte slicing into his cheek like a hot knife. Swearing, he fired back twice. Then Grace was there, the back door on the driver’s side already opened for him. He rolled out onto the sidewalk and squeezed off three more rounds. Then, launching himself from his knees, he drove into the SUV’s back seat. “go!”
I really enjoyed this one. Character development was great, plot was well thought out and I plowed through over 500 pages in one day. Norah Wilson did an excellent job of twisting the story to have you constantly turning pages to see what was going to happen next. I predicted several things, but a really good read none the less. The story unfolded well but kept you involved and the chemistry between the characters was done very well to me.There was a good deal of emotion that drew me in. Normally, I would never read a romance of a married couple because in my mind there's fiction and there's just blatant fabrication. I really don't see marriage as a story line but more for an ending result and few books can pull off a romantic believable marriage, but this one did. It was about two people trying to recover a big betrayal while trying to solve a mystery that has there entire lives turned upside down. NW had much more in this one than the first one, in my opinion anyway. I would recommend this one and I think you could read it as a stand alone, (unless you're like me, and cannot start a series out of order), but NW is not one to explain much from the first book's relevance, so you may be at a slight disadvantage, but not too much.
I don't have a lot to say about this book. I read this because I needed something simple and relaxing to read. I need that a lot lately. Grrr...I love high school but it takes away a lot of my time and adds a lot of stress. Either way, this book was pretty good. I loved the connection between the two characters, they were just so sweet. Grace wants to be with Ray but he won't let her and she has no reason why because she lost her memory. They suddenly she pulled out of her confusion so fast that she falls back down but this time she's drowning in it. She was leaving Ray for a different lover? She has no idea what Ray is talking about. I sort of saw the reason she lied to Ray about the lover even before we started getting hints. It was kind of obvious. I loved the chemistry between Ray and Grace. They wanted to be together so bad but they had that lie that they didn't know was a lie hanging between them. Ray acted like an ass at moments but overall he was a really sweet guy and I loved him. Grace is such an independent woman and I admire her for that and how much she loves Ray. This book was pretty good. Had a couple of flaws but still worth reading.
I've read a few other romantic suspense books recently and they were just....not very good. So I went into this book without high expectations (and thinking it was one of the other ones I had read), but fortunately it surprised me with how much I enjoyed it. Sure you knew from the beginning that what Grace said happened obviously didn't, but it was so much fun watching her and Ray figure out what happened and try not to hurt each other. It was really sweet how much Ray cared even though he thought Grace was leaving him for another man, and Grace...well she just tried her hardest to not hurt him more than she already had, even though she couldn't remember what happened. The only part I didn't like that much was when . Other than that it was a very entertaining read and I cannot wait to read more by the author.
This was a quick and enjoyable read. I thought it was well written, and I was engaged in trying to figure out the mystery. In the end I was convinced the couple would be happy together, but I did struggle with them both claiming that the marriage was so happy and yet we discover they were lying or hiding things from each other. I understood Rays history and how that impacted, but I never quite got what led to Graces moms behaviors that so impacted her. I also didn't get why Grace didn't go to Ray, who was a cop, both during the time before the accident and during the events at the end of the story. It just seemed out of character. I liked the mystery and the story moved quickly and was action packed.
This is the second book in the Serve and Protect series and the second of the series that I have read, the first one being Needing Nita.
Although this was a full length novel, there seemed to be more happening in the novella than in this book. There was more in-fill in this but you also didn't hear about things until the end when really they weren't that relevant any more. There were hints about their marriage and how she acted and his attitude towards her but nothing was really said until the end and then it was sort of brushed over.
On the whole, I still enjoyed this book although not as much as Needing Nita. I might get the rest of the series just to see it through but I'm not sure yet.
Loved this book. Grace and Ray Morgan are a married couple on the run. He is a detective whose world fell apart when Grace told him she was leaving him for another man. Then she's in an accident and can't remember the other man or the leaving part. When they end up running for their lives their attraction for one another remains. Grace is positive she'd never leave Ray but all the evidence says otherwise. And Ray is having a difficult time remembering that she's no longer his. Will they find out the truth about who is trying to kill them and why? Will the truth destroy their relationship once and for all? Great suspense. Wonderful characters. Sizzling love scenes. This book has it all. Definitely recommend.
I'm waffling between a 3-3.5 on this one. Before the details of the huge suspense mystery/suspense reveal, this was a definite 4 star for me. I liked Ray and Grace, trying to figure out their marriage problems, how they interacted together, etc. If the author had just concentrated on the two main characters without the suspense plot, this really would have been a better book. The problems between Ray and Grace were enough to create enough tension and substance to carry the book.
