Book is wordy and hard to understand.

Have you ever wondered, “How were the liberties that we now enjoy developed?” or “What makes our nation great?” The Legacy of Liberty and Property, written by author, researcher, and historian Daniel Ford answers those questions. Daniel Ford takes the reader through American History and illustrates how liberty was established.

I think the author’s goal in writing this book was to show today’s American citizens that we must protect and maintain the freedoms that we have by being cognizant about where our freedoms came from, how they were birth. I truly believe the author was writing to a generation of Americans who need to understand our nation’s history and our legacy of liberty and property, so that they can preserve and defend our God-given rights.

Throughout the book Daniel Ford greatly stresses how crucial it is to comprehend and be informed about the founding of our great nation and the godly principles behind the documents that our founding fathers drafted, so that we can help America survive as a free nation.
This book illustrates what it really meant to be free and possess liberty in the earlier years of our nation’s history. It was more than just doing whatever one wanted; it was being internally self-governed and having internal liberty, which flowed into external liberty.

I think Daniel Ford achieved his goal very well in writing this book. It was very interesting to see the beginnings of America and how the legacy of liberty and property was established. Also, it was quite something to see the importance put on American pulpits in the eighteenth century. As liberty developed I could see God’s hand on America. I saw that we flourished because civil government knew what their obligation was and the American people understood that their duty was to be internally self-governed under God. A transformation of the heart makes it possible for a people to truly be self-governed. When you believe and are accountable to a supernatural God then there is a moral basis and godly standards to live by. The government and citizens alike answered directly to God. This is what made our nation great. In our earlier years when we acknowledged God in all things we prospered and God sustained us. John Adam says, "Our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." As we see today, when a people forget their history, and get rid of God that society begins to crumble and fall away from its roots.

Ford says, “Earlier generations of America were quite different from ours. They had a view of freedom and property as an ongoing legacy from God. Americans therefore honored civil government within its rightful limits. They, in fact, blessed God for government that stayed within its rightful bounds.”

I definitely realize how far America has fallen from her godly foundation, and I also know what we, as God’s people, can do to halt the enemy’s plan concerning the downward spiral we are going in. Our greatest weapon is prayer, and whatever else God may direct us to do. God’s Word says that perilous times would come, so I don’t think America can fully be restored, but we can keep God involved in our nation through prayer. In reading the book, I see how we, as God's people, need to know our history so that God can use us to do our part.

The most important thing that I learned and want to remember from the book is the godly principles and ideas behind our nation’s documents. I see that it is important not only to know what our American documents say, but also where they came from. Knowing our roots is necessary in order to maintain our freedom as a people.
