Ford Hyatt works for agency that tries to prove innocent people are in prison. He has quit because he got one out who attempted murder. A friend from HS comes to him to help prove her ex-husband didn't murder his son and shouldn't be executed. Tense, exciting a real page turner. Very good book.
Robyn and Ford were terrific together and I must be dense or something because I couldn't guess who did it. I liked the action and the romance and it was a sweet, quick read.
In theory it is a longer book with more pages (according to the cover), I found it to be a fast read because it was written with larger spacing and a bigger font. I think KL's early, early novels for the American Romance line were longer and more fleshed out and if you went back to the SuperR series circa 2000 (which I did this month because I'm reading older Brenda Novak titles) Harlequin isn't foolin anyone with their "Longer Books" claims on the cover. Just an observation...
Other than that I found Daniel and Project Justice very similar to Justine Davis's Josh and Redstone Inc (he's a great founder and it's a swell to place to work) so there is probably a lot more coming down the pipe in the series. Which makes me wonder why they couldn't fit it into the Romantic Suspense line. Maybe the bad guy wasn't bad enough.. not sure. More description, more depth to surrounding characters, more heart and home, probably would have made it a more complete SuperR title.
Author Kara Lennox starts an exciting suspense series with TAKEN TO THE EDGE. She manages the delicate balance between romance and mystery/suspense, with sizzling sexual tension, a dangerous plot, and a heroine who's survived one of the most horrible things any mother can imagine--the loss of her only child.
I will be definitely looking forward to more books from the PROJECT JUSTICE series.
Robyn's husband cheated on her more than once before their divorce. But he did love their son. There's no way he would have killed him, and there's no way he belongs on Texas's death row. Ford Hyatt and the team at Project Justice are her last chance both to free an innocent man and to find out what happened to her son.
But she forgot about her teenage crush on Ford in her high school days. And now to work in close proximity with him, she didn't expect fireworks. But the sparks start to sizzle between them!
This was unique in that the heroine was trying to prove her ex-husband innocent rather than guilty. I also liked the small plot point of the heroine teaching art to urban youths during summer school. In addition, the hero skates perilously close to being a sanctimonious ass for most of the book. Despite all that, I enjoyed it and it was a nice way to while away a lunch hour.
