Another fabulous book in this series! I’m starting to notice some trends, particularly with the strong and sassy heroines and the sweet, sincere heroes. This book takes the trope of dating the coach’s daughter and runs wild with it. We know Danny from the previous books as being the sweet and mild-mannered quarterback (I think that’s his football position LOL), and he’s just as sweet in this book, but I love how Sadie brings out another, feistier side of him. Sadie is a unique protagonist. She’s a college freshmen with plans to play professional soccer. Just before coming to America to reconnect with her father and go to university, she was attacked outside a pub. While she has a little PTSD, and this figures into the plotline, the book isn’t at all dark or angsty. That said, the book does deal with some darker themes, and I even categorized it as a romantic suspense because of how intense the mystery elements were. I absolutely LOVED that subplot, and while it was somewhat predictable, I ate it right up!
The third installment in a companion series was very decent. I had a fun time reading this, and overall it was a successfully conveyed love story, but something was...off.
My main complain is the heroine, Sadie. She's supposed to be this honest, no-nonsense kind of girl who will bust your balls and drown you in her sarcasm. But she comes off as an asshole. She knows about it and proudly announces to EVERYONE she meets that everyone finds her offensive. Instead of changing her approach about meeting new people, she shoots her very VERY weird sense of humor at them, knowing it'll 100% offend people, yet does it anyway. It's like if she announces she's an asshole it'll somehow absolve her of any responsibility. No, honey, you still have to try and be polite in a society.
The plot was filled with so many different subplots, that it distracted from the story. I would much rather we had less going on, but delve into it deeper, than disperse our attention at all these tiny subplots, which were dealt on a surface level.
I liked that we got to see them as friends, and in an established relationship as opposed to them only getting together at the end of the book.
If you are a fan of college sports romances, where the guy is kind and the heroine is sassy, this book might be for you!
Heart Starter is my favourite out of Rebels of Rushmore Series!
I don't even know why that is! Is it because Sadie was being a total badass or Danny being such a great guy?! All I know is that these two together were perfection.
I loved every minute of this book. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves romance and characters with baggage. I loved the simplicity of the characters, yet complexity they tended to bring to each other. I also liked the (Europe) football elements in the book.
I could say so much more, but even that would be inadequate to verbalize the magic and wonder that can be found in this story.
This author is the master of sexual tension, apparently in any genre.
This read like a high school romance tbh. Sure, the MCs are in college and everything, but the way they act, talk, and think are what I believe high schoolers would. Also, the issues that make them tick are what would trigger high schoolers too -- but that's just me. I buddy read this with a friend and she loved it, so feel free to take this review with a grain of salt. I mean it started quite well in the first half, but then it took several turns until it started going downhill on high speed. Also, I'm still conflicted on whether or not I actually like Sadie. At first, she came off as a cool, unbothered, savage chick but somewhere down the line, she started getting on my nerves for some reason. Then I found myself rolling my eyes at that scene that happened towards the end like really? Either way, I'm curious about the deal between Paris and Vanessa enough to go for the next book!
2.5 - Coulda Been Better If the Heroine Was More Likeable - Stars
This book started out pretty good between the H and h. They had a bumpy first meet but when they started hanging out and became friends, I really liked their interactions. Even if the heroine was a bit of a hardass and just came off as a bit unfriendly at times. But, then they had to go and sleep together and the condom broke and all of a sudden it was all his fault. He's trying to get her to talk to him and she just blows up at him. Now, eventually she realizes she was in the wrong but it was hard for me to get past her attitude with him when Danny was a really good guy.
Then when they straighten things out about that, she basically tells him she can't even be friends with him anymore and pushes him away. Then when she realizes she wants to be with him and he points out I raise an eyebrow. “Can I? I remember vividly the last time we spoke. You didn’t want anything to do with me. Friendship was off the table.”
She simply says: "I was wrong." and we get no grovel! She should have groveled. It was wrong what she did to Danny.
There were some good parts in this book but they were overshadowed by my annoyance of her behavior that it didn't make me want to give this book more than 2.5 stars.
I really like her writing and I've liked the 2 Rebels of Rushmore books before this one, but this one didn't really work for me. Hope I like Vanessa and Paris's book better. Vanessa doesn't seem to be a hardass like Sadie.
Danny and Sadie’s story is jam packed with angst, explosive chemistry and so many emotions you won’t know what to do!
I love this series because on one page you’re dying with laughter than gasping from shock! Danny met his ultimate match with Sadie and I am enamored with how well they push each other’s buttons! From their first meeting they have an instant attraction but so many obstacles to over come! They become unlikely friends and with each moment spent together they uncover just how well they go together! If only everyone else agreed!
Danny has always been the quiet, more reserved friend and I loved getting to know him and see just how rowdy this footballer can be! Sadie is a no nonsense, say what I feel type of girl who doesn’t care about feelings or making friends! She wants to make her mark in the world but on the way she learns that being an island of one isn’t always the best!
Another stellar novel and it’s a complete standalone! Enjoy this sexy sports romance with a side of snark this fall season!
Nie kłamałam, kiedy oznajmiłam, że faceci mnie nie interesują. Są z nimi same problemy.
Loved it!!! OMG! All the feels!!! Danny was everything!!! Im so glad FINALLY a nice guy didn’t finish last! He was the best!!! sweet, loyal and fierce! ❤️ Everyone needs a Danny in their LIFE! Great romance!!! although i feel the Bromance was even better! 😅In fact it was very heartwarming!!! Andy and Danny have the best bro-friendship 😎 It was unique and refreshing to see how the author makes this men’s friendships stand out and give genuine laughs and heartfelt feels!!! i love how its not just romance but also awesome friendships!!! Is what made this story even more special because danny and sadie start off on this funny unexpected friendship. Must read!!! Each can be read as a standalone! 😘
Another great book from Michelle Hercules! I loved Sadies crazy British terms (I need a British friend ASAP). The book had me laughing out loud. LITERALLY, my toddler couldn’t figure out why I was laughing so hard. *Note to self-ALWAYS put away the toys* 🤣🤣🤣 I loved how different this book was to the last two.
I honestly can’t wait to read about Vanessa and Paris!!! Please release it before September 2022. I can’t wait that long 😫
Sadie and Danny She’s a firecracker. She has a temper, she’s fierce and she doesn’t back down. I like Sadie. Danny and Sadie are determined to focus on their game and not have outside distraction. However, even a blind person could see these two are meant for more than just friendship. They really do have great chemistry. The heat and lust they give off with just being friends imagine that upped with a relationship. I like Vanessa and Paris and I’m interested to see what their story is.
Each book in the Rebels of Rushmore series just keeps getting better and better, and Heart Starter is officially my new favourite! Neither Danny or Sadie are looking for a relationship. Both are very focused on their sports and planning for their future careers, with no time for a serious commitment. But after meeting, there’s an instant attraction there that can’t be ignored, no matter how hard they try. They agree to be friends, and I love the friendship that develops between them, but the chemistry between these two is off the charts! I absolutely LOVE Danny and Sadie! I love their meet cute, their witty banter, their competitive streak, the way they quote books and movies to each other; just everything! And I love the way the author made these characters and their situations so real, that as a reader I had no trouble relating to them and I understood why they said and did the things they did. I don’t usually “connect”with a book so quickly. It usually takes at least a couple of chapters to really start getting into it, but that certainly wasn’t the case with this book! Because of Sadies character I was instantly hooked, and I fell for Danny immediately! And although there were a few serious and emotional moments in the book, the amount of times this book had me laughing is unbelievable! I don’t think I can properly explain just how much I love these characters and the overall story, so please, do yourself a favour and read it for yourself! It’s simply amazing!
I am so grateful for Michelle bringing Danny's story to life. He has always been such a sweet, supportive character in the background who had a heart of gold and finally he got his time to shine.
Danny is the Rebels QB, he is popular, he is seriously hot and focused on his game. He has dreams of becoming an NFL player and his dedication is unprecedented. His life has been challenging but he has made the most of it.
Sadie is a fierce, fiesty and singularly focused on her game. She carries a lot of emotional baggage thanks to her parents divorce, as a result she can be very abrasive and struggle to build relationships with others.
When Danny and Sadie first meet there is so much tension and angst, admittedly its not under the best circumstances but from there an unlikely friendship blossoms. I love how they fight their desire for each other, how they ignore the white hot chemisty between them, everyone can see it but no they're focused on their sports.
There is great character and emotional growth especially with Sadie and this added depth really pulls you into their story. You also get to learn about Danny's psycho ex who brings an intensity to their battle that makes you unable to put this books down. You root for them to get together from the beginning just like their friends.
Danny finally gets his book, and I'm so happy. His match is Sadie, a very British Sadie which I absolutely loved. She's a footie...sorry soccer player, and her dad is Danny's coach, not that he realises that at first. She's sassy, smart, and makes a small mistake that has her and Danny crossing paths. In a way they are very similar, both focused on their careers within the sports that they play. Neither is looking for anything serious, but there is an instant connection that neither of them can deny.
I for one absolutely adored Sadie, honestly she is one of my favourites in this series, but probably down to the fact we're both British so I'm a little biased. There's also a scene with her, Danny and her toys and I was howling with laughter. In another, there's a bit where the Queen is mentioned, and as a Brit myself, Sadie, honey I know where you're coming from.
I've loved this entire series so far, but I will admit that this one is definitely one of my favourites, I couldn't stop reading and just kept turning the pages one after another. Can't wait for the next one in the series.
Oh my stars! I have loved this series since the first book and with Heart Starter, I am living for Danny and Sadie! There are so many ups and downs with the right amount of angst and little twists that keep you on your toes. Plus the whole swoon factor with Danny! The one thing I adored is the drive that both of them have. Sadie is focused so hard on soccer that Danny literally comes out of left field. Danny is hoping to go pro with football. We get this intense back and forth between them with epic witty banter and sizzling tension! One thing I found that I adored about this book was that not only was it a love story between these two but the growth of them and rebuilding relationships, especially on Sadie’s side with her dad. It is heartfelt and emotional. I am dying to get my hands on the next book because I am beyond intrigued with Paris! If you haven’t started this series and want some epic college angst with stunning love and passion, now is the time to start!
I absolutely loved this book! Heartstarter has to be my favourite of this series so far. Sadie Is a complete badass and Danny I instantly liked him. The characters had me in stitches so many times, their banter was off the charts, these characters were so likeable. I was 100% gripped from the outset I couldn't put it down and as 3am rolled round and I had to be up at 6, I was still saying just one more chapter. I did regret it slightly trying to work on 3 hrs sleep but it's definitely something I would do again.
I'm obsessed with this series, it's 100% recommended.
This is a fast paced, classic college romance. Sadie and Danny have a connection the instant they run into each other. They are drawn to each other but fight it because their focus is on their sports careers. Friendship turns into more quickly when they can’t fight their feelings anymore. But when you date the star quarterback, jealousy follows. Jealousy that turns dangerous.
This book is a nice and easy read where to root for Sadie and Danny the entire book. Plus you get glimpses of Andy and Jane from Heart Breaker
Angsty, sweet and full of chemistry Heart Starter is a great read.
With wonderfully written characters, full of depth and personality, a gripping plotline, snark, hilarity and so many feels, I absolutely loved Sadie and Danny. Their rapport had me snort-laughing and gasping in shock, their chemistry was off the chart and their vulnerability and baggage made then so realistic, it was impossible not to get lost within their story.
I just devoured this book, not surprising every book she write is pure gold!!!
This story between Danny and Sadie is everything, they are an absolute crack up and too sweet to handle. It was lust at first sight, with a bunch hesitation, throw in some drama and a few knives and we have a great story.
Already pre ordered the next book, the wait is gonna kill me 🙃
Absolutely love this series and Danny's story was no different, I knew I would love his story. So glad Sadie came along for him she was perfect. Loved how this story also brought to the fore front the difference in sports for men and women too. Great story that had me hooked from the beginning.
This series is great and just keeps getting better with each book. My favorite has been Danny since the first book and I loved his story. Really excited to see Paris's story next.
A book with a couple where BOTH are athletes, the girl is a badass and the guy actually is both hot and respectful? Yes please. I loved this book, the first two in the series were good but this was better
I loved this book! Danny and Sadie were so perfect together. Danny has been one of my favorites from the beginning and I am so happy he got his happily ever after. I really enjoy these books! I can’t wait to read Paris’s next!
Heart Starter is book #3 of thee Rebels 9f Rushmore series by author Michelle Hercules. This is a sweet sports college romance with a little drama and steam and also sports a crazed ex and some great British lingo. This story is about Sadie and Danny. After an event that almost cost her her life in London, Sadie has moved to The States to attend Rushmore University, a school known for it's soccer program, and also a school where her estranged father coaches the football team. Her first night at the college sees her attending a party and crashing into someone's car. That someone happens to be Danny, the quarterback for the Rushmore Rebels and feeling guilty, she offers to drive Danny around until his car is fixed. Both Sadie and Danny so focused on their sport and future careers and don't want a relationship to complicate matters, but the more they're around one another, the more their thoughts feelings become less platonic. Heart Starter is another great addition to the Rebels of Rushmore Series. This was a feel-good read with a bit of steam and plenty of witty banter. I loved the connection and chemistry between Sadie and Danny as it felt raw and real. There were some crazy twists and turns in this story but that all added to the allure of the story. I'm excited to read Heart Smasher to see what direction Michelle Hercules will take with that story.
