A one night stand in a limo with her boss's son had consequences Zacari didn't count on. But when she had been trying to get over finding her cheating ex-boyfriend in bed with her best friend, Keary seemed to be just what she needed to exercise her demons and satisfy a sexual void she never knew she had. Keary O'Connor didn't care what Zacari's motives were the night she wouldn't take no for an answer. What red-blooded man could turn down a seductress with smooth tawny-colored skin and a body he couldn't get out of his head? He had to have her, and he wanted her again. His only problem now was in convincing her that he would not be like her ex, and what he wanted went beyond the physical and would last a lifetime.
DNF. I got about half way through and gave up. The writing was....not great. I know this is an erotica and this there is an expectation of explicit sexual scenes, but the plot was barely there and the copious amounts of sex was frankly tiresome. I should have stuck to my initial instincts when I found myself skeptical at my ability to enjoy a non science fiction genre book where the main character's names are Zacari and Keary.
Ahhh Keary! I don't think guys like him really exist, but he was a great hero. Zacari finds her fiancee and her best friend in bed, so she goes to a bar on the other side of town (doesn't want to run into anyone she knows) to get hammered and drown her sorrows. After having too much to drink, Keary steps in -- he's the son of the owner of the company she works for, so he knows her -- and takes her home. The alcohol gives her courage to seduce him in his limo on her way home. She never intended to end up pregnant, but she's a strong, independent woman who doesn't expect anything from Keary in return. She's so afraid he's going to accuse her of seducing him for his money that she resists any assistance from him, but he's determined to help and be involved. Plus, he realizes she's special, and he knows he wants more time with her. Of course, she can't imagine he'd be around for any other reason than the baby, so she keeps trying to make out his intentions as just that -- helping the baby, nothing to do with her. Ultimately there's an HEA, but lots of bumps to get there. I loved that Zacari was so strong -- she was completely willing and able to do this herself, and really would have asked for nothing from Keary. I think her strength was one of the things Keary found attractive in her. And Keary was just flat out a wonderful guy. And the boy had moves! ;-) They had *lots* of steamy sex.
This one combines two popular romance plot lines: assistant falls for boss/co-worker and an unexpected pregnancy. However, Ms. Lockwood's talents made Something Unexpected a delight to read. This is Ms. Lockwood's best book, and I hope to read more from her.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I actually read this because the movie (which was horrible, BTW), and I was disappointed. I know this is an erotic novel, and I know I'm not the biggest fan of erotica, but this was just bad. There was a lot of sex and zero plot (nil)! The two leads (I totally forgot their names and I'm to lazy to look so....general titles will have to suffice),literally, never talk.
Our heroine, after finding her man in bed with her best friend, decides to get drunk and sleep with her boss’s son once he offers her a ride home. This would be the point where I say, "Hot damn, chivalry ain't dead!" but, sadly, I cannot. Here's my problem with our male lead:
1. Dude has sex with a drunk girl 2. Dude has unprotected sex with aforementioned drunk girl 4. Yum, Limo sex with a drunk girl (you, gentleman you!) 3. Dude's insta-lovin' on our female lead (drunk girl) although he never showed any interest previous to their steamy limo-sex.
Was the male lead a bad guy? No, he just made some poor choices. You shouldn't hook-up with a drunk girl, especially when you're completely clear headed. You should always wrap-it up (have you seen Maury?), but you 100% have to when you have wealth because...you know where I'm going with this. Anyway, he was actually kinda sweet with never denying her baby and caring for her, but it didn't ring true! What guy isn't going to question whether the child is his baby if you:
A. Sleep with guys while drunk (no shade, I'm just saying) B. Just broke up with your long-time boyfriend C. Only slept together once (Now I know this can happen but it's an argument I'm sure most would post – I’ve seen Maury)
Now, the female lead was annoying as hell. I remembered her character just irking my spirit. She was whiny and immature - nothing's more unappealing in a character than those two traits right there.
So, getting back to what I was originally saying, she gets prego and tells him in a letter...
Yeah.....
To sum up the letter:
Dear [insert name],
We had sex and it was great and I don't regret not knowing you and letting you hit it (and quit it) without protection - although you could have countless diseases and/or virus' - I do however have to tell you that I'm pregnant. I don't have sex with random men in limos, and you're the father. I just wanted you to know because although you're a millionaire, I didn't set out to trap you and I don't want your money or your support (just my job in which you guys pay me, so I guess I do need your money), however, I thought you had right to know.
Sincerely, [insert name] Woah, that was – woah! I’m feeling all types of emotions.
Right.
Well, she doesn’t stop there. Dude want’s to be with her because he cares about her and stuff but she’s like, “Nah I’m good” until he begins to move on and then all of a sudden she wants him! Girl, bye!
Even if I could look past all of that I’d still have to account for the lack of overall chemistry between these two characters and character development. Who are the two leads (seriously what’s their names!)? Is she dorky and smart, is he a sensitive artsy type, maybe likes basketball? Who the hell are you?! Not to mention their lack of chemistry because they didn’t talk to each other about anything!
The only person in this novel that had any sense was the lead male’s father. He asked the question I was waiting for err’body ask, which was if he was the father. Why should I take your word? Nobody knew her like that. But of course she was offended because someone dare question her confession.
This is my kind of story it grabs your attention from page 1. Zacari and Keary's Story. Keary is a great guy who loves Zacari and really has to work hard to prove that he loves her for her. I loved this story it was a real page turner, romantic and engaging! An excellent read.
I could not stand the two main characters in the book! They were both so annoying, seriously a whole big misccomunication that lead to going back and forth between having sex, sulking that their feelings aren't mutual and then having sex all over again. I am not even sure why I am giving this a two star rating...
An interracial romance featuring a beautiful African American woman who has now found her fiance in bed with her best friend and decides to hook up with her bosses son for a one-night stand. A very engaging love story of how these two people become involved "after the fact" and begin to walk a journey of discovery together.
Parts of this book reminds me of the book “50 shades of gray” for it is hot and steamy! Keary was attentive and caring throughout Zacari’s pregnancy. Keary was in love with Zacari, but had to work hard to prove his love to her. She thought he only wanted to marry her for the baby. The book itself was good, but would have been better if it was longer.
I enjoyed this book so much that i read it in a day. I was drawn in by the exotic passion between the two main characters from the start of their encounter.
I don't really have much to say about this other than, there could have been more believable development in the MCs relationship. This wasn't a terrible read, just...there was something missing. Maybe heart. Maybe, actual get to know you conversations between Zacari and Keary. There's not enough detail about them as individuals to root for them to be together, because honestly, if you removed the baby plot from this, what other connection did they have? None, besides the fact Zacari worked for Keary's family company. And as another reviewer pointed out, what wealthy man or even son of a wealthy person would have unprotected sex with a virtual stranger? I think more thought, and even a dose of realism could have helped things. Yet I supposed if Keary doubted and accused Zacari of trying to trap him it would kill the fantasy and erotic parts. But eh, I would sacrifice that to get a semi-plausible story.
Something Unexpected is the unconventional interracial romance story of Zacari and Keary. The book opens with Zacari dealing with the unexpected blow of finding her “best friend” and her boyfriend in bed together. In order to try to deal with this blow she decides to use alcohol to numb her pain at a bar on the other side of town. At this point the hero of the book, Keary, steps in to make sure that Zacari gets home safely. Keary is a rich man who is the son of her boss and he offers Zacari a ride home in his limo. In order to feel better about her life Zacari decides to seduce Keary in his limo, but that decision changes the course of Zacari’s and Keary’s life forever. The book then goes on to tell the story of the aftermath of Zacari’s drunken plan and it also tells the story of Keary trying heal Zacari’s shattered heart. This story line is very believable and reading this book would be wonderful way to spend the afternoon.
This is my first time reading one of Ms.Lockwood's books, however I truly enjoyed the story. Keary had a quiet determined, but patient confidence that I admire. He and Zacari had a one night stand that develops into more due to an unexpected surprise. I think it flowed nicely and I knew I was buying a book published under erotica, therefore I expected graphic sexual encounters. All in all it was basically a good story and I will definitely consider reading other books by Ms.Lockwood.
3.75 Stars. After seeing her boyfriend and her best friend in her bed having sex, Kacari went to a company party, got drunk and ended up having a one night stand with the president of the company's son, Keary O'Connor. She received a promotion and was relocated to another city into the office run by Keary, she also discovers that she is pregnant. She and Keary overcome some stumbling blocks and develop a loving relationship.
A one night stand will change Zacari's life forever. Zacari never expected to walk in on her boyfriend and her best friend getting it on. Hurt and thrown for a loop Zacari goes out to a bar far from her home to tie one on. Keary recognizes the young woman as an employee and volunteers to take her home but fate has a way of getting in the way of best intentions. Now Keary and Zacari have some decisions to make. Will they make the right ones for the benefit of their child?
Well, I guess it took a lot of a man to believe that some woman sent him a letter that said he was a father of their kid, just from one night stand in a limo. What bothered me is why the hell Keary didn't say "I love you" to Zacari, knowing that she's pessimist and confused about his feelings. But well, a nice quick read.
Oh how I loved me some Keary! I have to say I could relate to Zacari's pain but there were some parts where I was saying girl you are going to chase this man away with all of the insecurities. But oh he was a hottie and nice dream to have.
WOW! Zacari & Keary met by chance at a bar and had a one night stand neither one could or wanted to forget. The intimate scenes where off the chain! They did everything...Freaky or Kinky they tried it.I got to read some more books by this author.
I gave this book three stars even though I thought it was mediocre at best. Zacari was a push over until she got pregnant. Keary was okay and likeable at first until the end when he became a dominant sex fiend. The writing made it easy to read so I wouldn't pass up this story.
