Unstuck: A Tool for Yourself, Your Team, and Your World

Rate this book
Everyone gets stuck sooner or later. The big question is how do you get unstuck?

People and organizations get stuck because the most ambitious and rewarding work brings with it the most challenges.

Unstuck is a smart, fearless, totally practical guide to turn to for inspiration and immediate solutions. It’s meant to be acted on, not just read. And it’s based on the proven practices the authors have discovered while working with IBM, Sony, Hewlett-Packard, Nike, Gap Inc., and many other major companies.

Whether you need to step back to move forward, motivate a struggling team, change your goals, or create a clearer vision, Unstuck helps you diagnose your situation, identify the most important challenges, and implement the right tools and techniques to get things moving again. Now with updated case studies, this is the perfect book to get you and your team unstuck.

I bought this as a potential resource for consulting and training, and after reading through it cover to cover, I'm not sure it will be as useful as I'd hoped. A little disappointing after reading the very promising intro by the authors, which claims it was born of actual workshop featuring hands-on, collaborative problem-solving methodologies. It isn't sure if it should be a skill-building reference tool or a high-level inspirational tome, and doesn't do either totally well. Some of the helpful tips and motivational anecdotes in the margins were difficult to decipher. Additionally, the whole visual presentation rendered sections of text very difficult to read, and to understand in the context of the other ideas on the same page.

It will go on the shelf but is not likely to be the first or second or third book I turn to for workshop and consulting ideas.

A solid attempt to help get people out of creative roadblocks. While I do not always agree with the patterns, I do appreciate the simplicity and control it brings to the often chaotic state of creative processes. The problem categories cover a broad and diverse field, and each is equipped with bespoke methods to help you get "unstuck".

I was looking for a personal tool to be more effective in my every day life. This book is directed towards the team . Designed to be a work book. My rating is primarily a function of this being the wrong tool for me rather than a reflection of the quality of the content.

Picked this up due to the striking cover; bought it on a whim. It turns out to be pretty good. The design is solid, with some interesting visual metaphors, etc. The information is solid as well; learned a few things that I will most likely deploy in the upcoming year as an team leader/administrator.

Keith and Sandra put some soul into this one. Realizing that you are stuck and being able to admit it are two different things.
The serious seven reasons that people are stuck helped me describe more of where I am stuck.
This is a business book that crosses over into personal application.
Read it.

3 steps: Admitting you're stuck, Diagnosing why you're stuck, Getting unstuck. Short snippets of 'advice' on different pages and depending on your needs, you can flip to the relevant pgs to learn more. This book doesn't 'speak' to me. Our 'coach' who recommended this bk spoke so well abt how the bk can changed one's outlook at work.

This is a great little book to help you diagnos where a team or an organization is stuck. Once you figure out how you are stuck, there are suggested actions to take to get unstuck. I've used this with several teams in a corporate setting and one not-for-profit.

his book is a very different read to help somebody get out of a rut. The book is written so it jumps you around so that you get the right advice and help for your issues. So it's a great book to keep so you can take a different path the next time you are stuck.

I think the way I can give this book the most accurate review is to wait until I have used it's methods/techniques.
Reading the book inspires you and gets you mentally unstuck. The application should have the same effect on the rest of our "stuckness", we shall see.

The book has some good tips about how to make progress when you're stuck in your work environment. It's more focused on team leaders and managers than regular workers, but it's a good book in general.

This book held a lot of great helpful and tangible tips and tools. I read it thinking for a group I am team lead over, but think I will re-read it for my own personal growth.

Read this straight through in about an hour or something. It was fine, but forgettable. A few good ideas.
