About the author

Wolfgang Schreil (1975) was born in the Bavarian town of Bodenmais on the Czech-German border, where he currently lives with his wife. However, he spends most of his time in the midst of the forests in a caravan. Since childhood, he has been drawn to the woods and animals, but he deviated from this path at the age of fifteen, trained as a mechanic, and intensely pursued weightlifting until the age of twenty-five. However, he did not feel comfortable in the human world and confined himself to a warehouse, so he started escaping to nature. He found work as a gravedigger, bringing him much closer to nature. Later, he began focusing on photographing animals and treating injured ones. He shares his passion for the forest and animals through films and series, earning him the nickname "Animal Enchanter" in the media. In his expeditions, lectures, books, shows, and various talk shows, he strives to demonstrate how one can not only be "in" nature but also be a part of it. No one gets as close to the wild animals captured in his impressive photographs as Wolfgang Schreil: he sees what others do not. In 2022, he received the Rotary Respect Award for personalities fulfilling the mission of "making the world a better place." Wolfgang Schreil je člověk, který žije lesem a vším, co se v něm najde. Ve svém rajónu zná každé zvíře, kámen i každou šišku. Nikdo jiný se nedostane k divokým zvířatům tak blízko jako on, proto dostal přezdívku Zaříkávač zvířat. Najdete jej na Šumavě, v česko-německém pomezí, poblíž města Bodenmais.

V dnešní uspěchané době je potřeba občas uniknout všemu tomu hektickému a kam jinam než do přírody. Pokud si tam nemůžete zrovna teď dojít, vemte si alespoň knihu, díky níž se ocitnete v lese. Navíc s průvodcem, který toho ví o přírodě a zvířatech tolik. Zná každé zvíře i rostlinu a díky tomu nahlédneme pod pokličku lesního života.

Kniha začíná povídáním o zmiji a já, která má fobii z hadů, jsem ji tak četla jako thriller. Bylo to popsáno opravdu živě, že jsem viděla hady všude kolem mě. Naštěstí autor brzy přešel k pro mě příjemnějším zvířátkům a já si tak knihu mohla naplno vychutnat.

Z každého slova je cítit, jak autor přírodu miluje. Najdeme tu osobní zážitky a příběhy, ale i fakta. Některá více, jiná méně známá. Díky tomu jsem se dozvěděla spoustu nového, a to mám u knížek ráda. Navíc tu jsou fotografie, které autor pořídil při svém pozorování a některé z nich jsou naprosto unikátní.

Kromě příběhů z lesa tu najdeme místy až filozofické myšlenky o lidském bytí, ale psány tak, aby je pochopil každý. Psáno přirozeně a lidsky.

Short but charming book about his life and experience with the wildlife of the german forest. A really likeable guy.
