After being forced to kill her own son, Khalida begins to spiral into a deep depression. With Jake gone and the Network in danger of falling apart, she runs away from Mack and everyone else she loves, hoping that they will be safer without her near. However, Fate has something else in mind for Khalida, and soon she learns that Vyktor had a secret that he was keeping from her. His secret becomes her chance at redemption. But atonement doesn't come without a price. She will have to risk everything to find the answers to the mysterious events surrounding her. Has Vyktor come back from the dead to exact his revenge? The only way to find out is for Khalida to face her fears. She must fight the monster that haunts her and save the one person that holds the key to her past.
This sequel to Reining In (The Network) picks up about six months after Khalida's traumatic turn of events at the end of book one. Forced into hiding, in fear that Vyktor's men will avenge his death on her and the Network, she disbands it and hides out. When Mack finds her she is forced back into danger in order to protect Vyktor's widow Kori, bringing to light an aspect of Vyktor that Khalida had never considered or been aware of. Someone is trying to kill Vyktors's beloved wife and it has been forecast that Khalida is the only one who can save her. Dawn Judd takes us on a thrilling ride as Khalida tries to determine who the murderous "phantom" is, who appears to be not only after Kori, but also Khalida. Why is this phantom so set to destroy them both and will she be able to stop it?
I thoroughly enjoyed this sequel, which fleshed out the interpersonal relationships in Khalida's life, and we begin to understand her complicated family interactions. We are treated to a new romance and new beginnings. This was a quick, easy, entertaining read and I am now eagerly waiting for book three!
The 2nd Installment of the Network Series, is not stand alone, you will need to read the 1st book. Khalida has been hiding for six month, trying to protect her people, but is found by Mack. He brings her out of hiding appealing to her emotions and caring for her lost son. The only problem is that she will need to help the enemies that created the problem. One of this people, she finds out is her son’s widow. She is being haunted, just like her by what seems to be her son’s ghost. A truce is called and they join forces to get rid of this monster, which is her past coming back to try to kill them. In order to make it go away for once and for all, she needs sacrifice herself and go back to her roots, in the City of the Dead. The story is fast paced, enjoyable and hard to put down. The author makes you believe that you know what’s going to happen every chapter, only to surprise you with a new twist. Love the ending, leaves you hoping for last installment to come out quick.
I thought I had it all figured out in the first third of the book. Nope. The second third, I was sure I had it. Nope. Finally the end raced towards me (I do mean raced. The pacing is great!)and...BAM! There it was!
I read the first in the series and enjoyed it a great deal. This one didn't disappoint me either. The author has a great way of leading the reader through a maze and then finishing the book so that we are completely satisfied with the ending.
I'm still going to beg for a prequel, as I think there is a rich history to be told. If you haven't read the first book, do it. Better yet, get them both and have a great time!
This book is the continuation of the story that Reigning In started. You definitly need to read book one to understand the characters in this book. Again I was blown away by the writing of this author.Just as i won in book one. The story has twists and turns i didnt see coming and that alone makes for a great read. I read this one quickly and watched how much percentage i had read on my kindle not wanting the story to end. The characters are authentic. The storyline is solid and executed with the spice of an experienced author. If you havent read this series You are missing out. Its a great vampire story! Bring on book 3! My score 5 Stars!
