Sadly Jacqui Frank's writing has gone decidedly downhill over the past few years and Seduce Me in Flames is a clear example of this.

This is a book that simply doesn't know what it's trying to say. It's part Fantasy, part Science Fiction with a little dash of Space Opera thrown in. It has a mythical middle eastern flavour with harems and would-be-pashas and yet the society is supposed to be technologically advanced.

However the most annoying parts are the larger than life alpha hero and the beautiful, compassionate yet strong heroine, who despite being sequestered for most of her life emerges from captivity ready to take on a lover as well leadership of her country. With love and compassion of course.

I read this book to the end, largely to see if it improved or if it was possible that it could get worse.

Perhaps I should explain something. I was once one of Jacquelyn Frank's most ardent fans. I loved her early books and felt that she had a strong paranormal voice. I'm genuinely delighted at how she has overcome so many personal challenges and is now able to embrace life to an extent to which she was previously unable. However over the past years her writing has decreased in depth. From being an innovative and delightful writer she now too easily writes to a tired formulae.

Every few years I'll go back to her books, just to see if she can turn her writing around. However now that I have closed the back cover of Seduce me in Flames, I'm happy to put her aside for a good long while.

I just finished Seduce Me in Dreams where I was introduced to the Three Worlds series and the Interplanetary Militia and Rush Ender Blakely's team.

Ambrea Vas Allay is a daughter of the Emperor of Allay but has spent most of her life in prison. She has a younger immature brother who is placed on the throne via political intrigue of an uncle, and she is summoned to be banished from Allay and renounce her claim on the throne. She refuses and returns to prison.

The Interplanetary Militia sends a crack team to rescue Ambrea from being assassinated, and Rush allows himself to be imprisoned near her. With incendiary devices he opens both his cell and Ambrea’s to escape through the underground tunnels. Rush also has powers to emit fire even his team is does not know.

A friendship turns to romance after the escape. The conspiracy for the throne evolves into the death of her brother and the ascension to the throne of the evil uncle.

This was a fast entertaining read with a lot of scheming and plotting amongst the secondary characters.

I was devastated to find that the Seduce Me in Shadows book on GR is not going to be published. It would have been fun to see more Chosen and power wielding characters developed.

I’d been thinking, after reading and reviewing the first book in this series, that while I like it all so far, I’m not going to enjoy it as much as I do the Shadowdwellers series. But this newest book is changing my mind about that. It’s the world of the Shadowdwellers, the use of dreams, along with the characters that make that series so fascinating to me. In this series it’s the characters and their abilities that keep me reading till the early hours of the morning.

Ender is an Interplanetary Military officer, one who likes to play with incendiary devices and blow things up. He’s part of an elite team who are first responders to any and all major events throughout the Three Worlds. His current mission is to rescue the heir to the Allyan throne, a princess who has been incarcerated one way or another her entire life. His way of getting into the “prison” where Ambrea is being held is priceless. Between fighting guards and getting purposely laser stunned, he winks at his intended target and feigns injury. Ambrea is nearly just as stunned at the whole enactment, all without being literally shot.

When she learns her emperor father has died, Ambrea has a momentary hope that her life may improve. Her brother has ascended the throne, even though Ambrea herself, as the oldest living offspring, should be empress. That moment passes instantly when her sibling and uncle end up imprisoning her just as her father had always done. That’s when her life makes a sudden and very unexpected turn as she puts her fate into the hands of a stranger. That decision is the best of her life, and she is now on her way to the future her birth intended for her.

Though we learn about Ender’s extraordinary ability in the prologue, we truly get to know him and all about his fiery “curse” along with Ambrea as she discovers more about the man who rescued her. His fear is that he will injure Ambrea once they begin to acknowledge their feelings for each other. But she puts all her faith in this man and knows he would never harm her, and she begins to chip away at his fear, giving him options on how to harness his power, giving him the control over it he’s never had. And all of this is occurring as Ambrea begins the precarious balance of ruling her people while keeping her uncle under her thumb.

We also get to catch up with the rest of the IM team, including the Chosen Ones who were introduced in the first book. In fact, I like that they’re now included in missions so that we find out more about their abilities and how they work. I like the teamwork and the relationships Ms. Frank has developed with these characters. They are easy with one another, teasing and laughing, but when Bronse, their leader, calls them together for a mission, they’re all work, their synchronicity seamless and flawless.

I also like that Ender and Ambrea talk to one another. There’s not a big misunderstanding going on, and their trust in each other is solid, even despite their differences in station, let alone their worlds. When Ender’s powers finally fully emerge, it’s all quite impressive, especially more so because he’s kept it a secret all his life, even from his teammates. Of course, there’s plenty left open with the secondary characters for future books, and after reading this story, I’m really looking forward to more in this series.

OMG that book was HOTT (no pun intended). As a return to a strange world where anything can happen this was definitely another great book by Jackie Frank. I have read all her series and i can already see myself hooked on this one for years. Only downside is the time between stories that leaves you dying for more. Definitly worth every second of time to read!!

This book was even better than the first! Jacquelyn Frank is an extremely talented author. This novel was full of suspense and an intricate story based around love, ambition, forbidden desires and secrets while in the midst of a political upheaval. Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant!

Rush “Ender” Blakely is a Tarian, which are often believed to be nothing more than savages. They typically live within their own clans and stick to themselves. However, when Rush confided in his clan about his mutation, that he can create fire from within himself, they tried to kill him. Now Rush is too traumatized and untrusting to let others know of his curse.

Rush is now a trusted member of the Interplanetary Militia. Their current mission is to break the princess of Allay out of the prison she was so unjustly sent to and restore her to the throne. Her father recently passed, and her brother was killed, leaving her and her uncle as the only heirs to the throne remaining. However, her uncle is not expected to give up the throne easily and Ambrea asks Rush to stay with her for protection. As the two grow closer, it could spell political suicide for Ambrea. And, the threat to her life is not over …

It’s been a really long time since I read the first book of this series, Seduce Me in Dreams, but it didn’t take much to get back into the series and to understand what was going on. We get to see the couple from that book, quite a bit in this novel as well.

I really wanted to like this novel, and Rush and Ambrea. However, I felt the book had a slow and clunky pace. It seemed very weighted down and I had a hard time focusing on the story, and was overall bored during the majority of it. I often found myself more interested in Bronse and Ravenna’s romance than the couple this book was actually about. It was an okay read, but it was way too easy to put down.

Why is Lasher not the hero of this one? In fact, what even happened to Lasher, Bronse's second in command and best friend?

Man this was way longer then it needed to be, meaning Frank used so many words. Her editor should have been tougher. This wasn't boring by any means. It was just slow, and I think that she should have used more finesse in how she showed emotions and motivations. Everything felt spelled out. Nevertheless, this was a good read.

I liked Rush and Ambrea's story better. This was definitely a funnier book - or at least the interaction between the main characters had better moments. I recommend this story. I know have to hunt down the third book in the series, though. I have to follow up on some of the characters in the first book!

This was a great book. There were too many twists and turns. The only thing that I wish the author had done in her book is tell her readers what happened to the uncle, the mistress and the witch. There are so many unanswered questions that doesn't really help. Maybe the third book helps to draw the questions to a close.

I love the paranormal works of Jacquelyn Frank. The story of the empires and the Interplanetary Militia keeps the listener's attention to the very end. The story is great and the narrator does an excellent job with the characters and the story.

I got this in a white elephant gift exchange during book club and promised I would read and write a review. Honestly, not bad! The world and plot were interesting. Think The Bodyguard - but Star Wars. Gotta count it for my book goal this year!

So, so annoyed and upset that this series doesn't look like it'll be continued. I loved it and really want to see stories for Justice, Lasher and the others. Why, oh why has this series been dumped?

I enjoyed this book & series. I don't usually read this genre, but bought my sisters books, & she had this series. Unfortunately this author never finished the series so I won't be keeping it.

I would have rated this book much higher had it not felt so rushed. From the moment the characters are introduced information and action packed events are thrown at you, leaving you very little time to connect with the characters.

And even though i DID eventually connect and sympathize with said characters it took much longer and even then it was probably already because i was biased towards the book to begin with. The premise was really good and the story was intriguing so i let a lot of things slide that i usually don't for lesser novels.

From the get go there's a lot that forces you to suspend your disbelief: the fact that Rush trusts Ambrea with a secret he hasn't told anyone EVER even though he's only known her for about a few hours and on top of that the fact that said secret lead to a traumatic event that left him emotionally scared and with trust issues. So the fact he just met her and trusted her with that secret was a reaaaaallllll leap for me. There was no time for them to get to know and trust one another let alone to get to that level of intimacy which made things much that much harder to believe.

The action scenes were fast paced but ambiguous- if not confusing at times (a number of times i couldn't tell if they were sitting or laying down or facing on person or another and it just got really jumbled up to the point i had to reread a few sentences more than once)- leaving a lot to your imagination and the stuff that is described (ie the gadgets) are kind of just told they do the thing and you just have to go with it. It just never felt believable to me for a second. Usually, I can really loose myself in a book but more than once i stopped and rolled my eyes and never really felt that connection or that immersion that i usually do.

It didn't help with the rushed pacing of the book that everything was so very neat and orderly: this leads to this which leads to this. Everything was neatly tied up in a bow and i never got that "omg what's gonna happen, are they gonna make it" tension. The political intrigue and maneuvers, although bad, wasn't really bad to me. The bad things that are done are kind of just brushed off or barely touched upon as though its nothing. For example: A number of events like that happen where she should have reacted a bit more deeply or it should have left a bit more of an emotional strain on her (or other characters) that you never see. Something bad happens and then everyone moves on. That's it; there's no side effects.

Overall, it was a really good book and i enjoyed myself but honestly i wish there had a bit more emotional depth to the book, especially since there was no sex (other than ONE scene) to distract from the lack of emotion like most romance novels do. And the fast paced made the relationships half-baked and the connection to the characters themselves almost non existent(i mean i liked them but tbh i won't remember them a few minutes from now).

While I wasn't too thrilled with the speed of Rush and Ambrea's relationship, I definitely enjoyed not only the intrigue and politics involved but also Rush's awesome powers. I don't often get to read stories where a character can manipulate fire (unless they're a dragon-shifter or something), so that was a lot of fun. Plus, it was great watching Rush learn to trust again after that horrible incident in his childhood.

I was also happy to see that this book worked well as a standalone. Previous readers will likely enjoy the large role the hero and heroine from the first novel play in this one, but even without that background I was still able to follow along without feeling as though something was missing.

The love scenes were sizzling (sometimes literally), there was plenty of action to keep your adrenaline pumping, and tons of political scheming and intrigues that kept you on the edge of your seat the entire time. Add to that Rush's increasingly powerful ability and Ambrea's determination to make him see it as a gift rather than a curse, and you end up with a delightfully gratifying read. 4/5 Stars

This book took me by surprise. First, it doesn't really follow in the storyline of book 1 that much; yes it could pretty much be read as a standalone. Second, we don't the see much of the Chosen, which were a big part of the first book.

Rush "Ender" is HOT! I mean, literally. He's kept quiet about his mysterious power of burning this, his body overheats, he causes fires, he burns things and people. He's lived his whole life isolated because of this. Not even his closest friends and teammates for the IM (Interplanetary Militia) know about this.

He is assigned to "save" the princess and heir to the throne of Allay. Princess Ambrea is not your standard royal. She grew up away from court. Her father would've preferred she didn't exist and she was treated that way. Now with her father dead, she needs to be eliminated.

Of course the IM's job is to police the Three Worlds, and they want a fair chance for Ambrea Vas Allay to make her claim for the throne and ruler of Allay. Rush just needs to break her out of some pretty nasty catacombs, then out of her world and safely into the hands of the IM council.

I liked the fact that in their own way, both characters were strong yet innocent. Yes, they are both virgins, obviously each for their own reasons, but it gave them a sense of comfort.

For all that Ambrea seems like a breakable little girl, she can be strong when she needs to be and go after what she wants (i.e. Rush!)

We didn't get a lot of sex scenes in this book BUT when we did get it, it went on for what it seemed like forever! Good and bad.

In general I liked this story, it had some action, even though at times it dragged a bit too slow and things became a bit repetitive. As usual, I'm interested in Justice's story and I was happy to see Ravenna and Bronse as part of this story.

Who doesn’t like a tragic hero story??? This book has it in spades. We have the hero, Rush, who is hiding a deep, dark secret from his team. We met that team in Seduce Me in Dreams and they essentially his family. Rush’s secret is that he is pyrokinectic which means that he can burst things into flames and he can’t control his power. Like all tragic heroes, he tries to just not use this talent which is why when he gets very emotional – POOF – his talent surfaces and has a tendency to explode then he has to figure out how to snuff this talent quickly before anyone sees what he can do. Rush is ashamed of his talent which he considers a curse.

On the other side of the coin, we have Ambrea. She is our tragic heroine. She is a princess that has been denied her birthright all her life and has stoically carried on no matter what her father, uncle, brother or anyone from her royal family has thrown at her. She always remains optimistic for her people. Ambrea has been tortured throughout her short life both mentally and physically and still remains regal and poised for the sake of her people.

Both Rush and Ambrea are literally thrown together when Rush’s team arrives to rescue Ambrea from prison and put the rightful heir on the thrown of Allay. There is molten chemistry between cool, calm Ambrea and seething, explosive Rush. I loved the banter between the two characters as you watch them get to know each other and both realize that they really are not so different after all. So, you have a captive princess, a dashing hero, an oppressed planet with a power hungry madman, an elite combat team ready to put things right and all you need are some droids. Yeah, yeah, I know I’m being funny so don’t let that put you off. This is a great plot and a great story. This is another great tale that keeps you guessing and wondering what next until the very end. I found myself holding my breath, so I suggest having the oxygen tank handy because you are going to need it by the time you finish this must read book.

Maybe 4 1/2? Ms Franks is usually a sold 5 for me , but, this book just didn't quite live up to her usual standard. It was good, But I missed the camaraderie between the IM members that was a big part of the fisrt 3 worlds novel. And the romance (sex) was not as steamy as expected.

Ender, Tarian, Mutant, IM soldier. Rush "Ender" is from the planet Tarie, A hard, brutal world with little in the way of resources and no luxuries. His mutant ability is discovered when he is 21 and his clan tries to kill him, so he leaves his home planet and joins the IM, Interplanetary Militia, where he hides his mutant abilities from everyone, but axcells at everything else. He is strong, fast and loves to blow things up.He is sent on a mission to rescue the princess of Allay from the catacomb prisons where she is being unjustly held and embarcks on the mission of his life.

Princess Ambria Vas Allay has been imprisoned many times in her short life. Her mother was executed for treason when she was only 4 years old, and her father has disinherited her and falsely imprisoned her for fear of her usurping his power. Upon his death, her treacherous Uncle demands she sign away her rights to the thone and when she refuses she is thrown in the catacombs again. When she is rescued by the powerful terian and her throne restored through the power of the IM, Ender becomes her protector against the traitors in her kingdom, and her secret lover.

Ambria is the only one who knows his secret. Ender is the only one she can trust. Together they must find a way to preserve her life, keep her kingdom safe and along the way fall in love.

Absolutely loved this book. It's so different yet quintessentially Jacquelyn Frank. I missed the Nightwalkers and Shadowdwellers but I quickly fell in love with the Tarians and Allayans. Unfortunately I haven't picked up the first book of this series however that does nothing to stop the enjoyment and understanding of this book.

Our heroine is Ambrea, the daughter of the Emperor of the Allayan empire. Unfortunately for her, her father was a tyrant and had her mother killed and Ambrea exiled when she was young. Our hero is Interplantary Militia fighter Rush Blakeley, a Tarian who also has secret abilities to control fire - although in Rush's case, he had never knowingly controlled it so for him, it was a curse. The story revolves around Rush and his IM team rescuing Ambrea from her prison and keeping her safe until she can retake the throne of Allay as the next heir after her father died and her younger half-brother was killed.

The one thing I loved was Ambrea and Rush. Separately, they were so easy to get behind. She was mistreated for most of her life just because her father declared it so yet still have a loving nature and could see the best in others. He was so afraid that he'd hurt others with his powers and spent his years hiding his true self yet working as a dedicated fighter for the IM. Together, they are explosive and loving and so romantic. If the story itself had been garbage, I would have stilled loved the book because of their romance but as it was, the storyline was amazing.

I highly recommend this book not just to Jacquelyn Frank lovers but to anyone who delights in a great story.

This fantasy romance is a part of the "Three Worlds" novel series by Jacquelyn Frank. This is the first I've read in the series, but not sure whether it is actually book #1? However, I completely understood everything, so I do not think it matters which order they are read.

This particular book is the story of Ambrea Vas Allay (heiress to the throne) and Rush "Ender" Blakely (warrior extraordinaire from another planet). This heroine is noble not only by birth, but by right. She repeatedly earns this title by the many selfless acts she commits and decisions she stands by. The story does follow a predictable pattern of tragic beginnings to end with heavenly happiness. However, the path to the final destination is full of adventure, danger, seduction, and even a little supernatural surprise. This heroine is definitely a woman worthy of respect and admiration, and one who is totally enjoyable. In the beginning, the hero cannot really compare to the heroine. Oh sure, he's sexy, strong, and all alpha, but he's just too "monotone" to bring out any real enthusiasm. That is, until his long kept secret is uncovered by none other than his heroine. Then, his mask is ripped away and the surprise, anticipation, and danger turn two-fold. Ender's and Ambrea's story also involves a whole lot of political intrigue for those who like to use their head as well as their heart. I happily pronounce "Seduce Me In Flames" a B+.

This was a really good story and in fact I came out of it liking it much more than I thought I would. I’m a fan of Jacquelyn Frank and she’s on my must buy list but this book shot up to one of my favorites by her. I think it’s because it covered a number of my secret book pleasures.

Ambrea Vas Alley is a member of the royal family and is in fact the direct heir to the throne but has lost favor with the king when her mother was accused of being a traitor. When Ambrea’s father dies and her younger brother has taken over the throne, Ambrea is thrown in jail to discourage anyone who questions the royal succession line. But there is a secret faction who will do what they can to put the rightful heir on the throne. The Interplanetary Militia is on the case, and with the help of Rush “Ender” Blakey, are able to rescue Ambrea from her prison. While navigating the interplanetary courts and finally returning to her home planet, Ambrea puts her trust, and her heart, in Ender’s hands but he has a secret that burns red hot.

I really enjoyed the almost feudal system of Ambrea’s home planet but loved the technology that came from space travel. It opened up two wonderful worlds, almost like a historical/futuristic hybrid. A really enjoyable read and I can’t wait for more from Jacquelyn Frank and the Interplanetary Militia.

I am always amazed at Franks imagination. Over and over she creates new worlds for her series. This is the second in the Three Worlds series, and not really my favorite. I was not sucked into it like the first. I did like it. I love Rush and Ambrea. But the back story of the Allay society dragged for me and I found myself skimming parts of the book with no dialogue towards the end. At first, I was anxious to get to the action I knew was coming. And Rush "Ender" was a character that intrigued me in the first book, I couldn't wait to read about him. Rush and Ambrea are perfect for each other, she just has to get him to get over his phobia. But she has the patience of a queen to guide her into getting what she wants. Usually its the male saving the female, but truthfully, I feel like Ambrea was the one saving Rush. We see glimpses of the IM team from the first book, and a few help Rush in this one. Still, I think it was the Allay world that I didn't connect with. I always connect with her characters, and will always pre-order her books.Which is why one slow one for me will never stop me from reading all her books. If you haven't read the first one, you have to start there so you understand the IM team.
