Someone urged me to give this series another chance, but I couldn't remember the plot so I reread book one. Now, reminded of how weak I found it, I am again uninterested in ordering book 2. Should I?

This first volume isn't very exciting, the plot is kind of weak and rushed and the art isn't anything breathtaking. I do own the subsequent volumes, though, so I will continue for the time being.

Not bad.

Kaori Ozaki, Immortal Rain, vol. 1 (Tokyopop, 1999)

I've gotten into the manga habit over the last few years, and have been reading in roughly equal amounts from the big three. Dark Horse is off in its own little niche, while Viz and Tokyopop are adapting the more mainstream material for American readers. I've been thinking of Tokyopop as Viz' enthusiastic, if slightly less talented, younger sister; Viz always seems to scoop up the highest quality titles, while Tokyopop pulls in the top of the B-list. Then I discovered Immortal Rain, and all that changed. It may, in fact, be the best manga I've come across to date.

Rain Jewlitt is an immortal (hence the title) for all intents and purposes-- he hints that he can die, but has to perform a certain task first. Rain, being an immortal, has a target on his back for every bounty hunter in Japan-- he's the ultimate prize. One such bounty hunter, Zol, was killed in his last attempt to take Rain down. Now Zol's granddaughter, Machika, not only wants the fame and glory that getting Rain as a bounty would bring, but also wants revenge for the death of her grandfather. There's only one problem-- both Rain, who hs been unable to feel anything for the past half-millennium, and Machika, who won't allow herself feelings, are desperately attracted to one another.

Rain and Machika are fantastic characters, subtle and nuanced, avoiding (most of the time) the cliches that are almost guaranteed to show up whenever a plot like this surfaces. The minor characters, as well, are well-drawn, and the story arc is strong and present from the start. This is wonderful stuff, highly recommended.

My rating gives my review of the entire series, since I only star the first volume of a manga series. I never finished Immortal Rain, and I don't think the mangaka did, either...

While Immortal Rain was pretty interesting, I just couldn't get over the fact that few thousand year old guy was in love with a fifteen year old. What. The. Heck. WAAAAY creepier than Edward and Bella in Twilight. Also, I didn't really feel like there was much going on. And the fact that the series never finished didn't really help my opinion. However, I must have enjoyed it to give it at least three stars, and I thought that Rain was really sweet, so there you have it.

I remembered looking up what manga series I should read. And I read the summary for this but forgotten the name. And it had a cover of I think a merry go round or something. Anyway, after finding the title for this, I find its the same summary, story and was like, well this sounds interesting. And it is. An okay but at the same time has its interesting that you want to see where it goes later in the series type moments. Also like the MC actually fights back and you know, defends herself. Thank you for that.

This is the 2nd, possibly 3rd/4th or 5th time reading this series. It was a complete fluke that I picked this up and fell in love with it. I love Rain and Machika's relationship, as well as his clumsiness that makes you wonder what the heck he did to get a bounty on his head. Love it and recommend it.

The library in my home town had about half of this series when I was a kid, and I was obsessed with it when I was 12 or so. I was never able to finish it, and I've thought about it once in a while over the years. Gonna give it another go, we'll see if it holds up to how much my tweenage self loved it.

--- Immortal Rain / Meteor Methuselah 1-11---
Penokohan: Ok.

"Look. If I touch you with this hand, I can remember touching you, but I can't prove I ever did.

If reality is nothing more than what is in our mind...then what is the difference between this world and a dream?"
~ Meteor Methuselah / Ozaki Kaori

Salah satu wishlist saya! ^ o ^

Okay, first of all I'd like to say that if there was an 100 star rating I would totally give this manga that. I just completely fell in love with it. I loved Rain and Machika they just fit together perfectly like they were made for each other. Even though they don't know that yet.*evil laugh* Plus I totally loved Machika because she was different unlike all those other girls from shoujo manga's that always expect saving, she actually did the saving and kicked some ass while doing it which was all so just freaking awesome. And Rain well what can I say about him other than how much I want to give him a real big hug and not just any hug but a real tight hug. I mean can you imagine living for 624 years? All alone? With no one but yourself? Now that is just freaking depressing. And yet although he was alone he wasn't brooding or sad, he just lived and went living his naive and clumsy, happy self (I lost count of how many times Rain fell on his face. He was just hilarious and that part when he was in her apartment and other bounty hunters came to take him, he hid in a tree pot that was hilarious, I guess he expected not to be seen but you could totally see him). If it was any other person (me) I would've gave up along time ago (I mean can you imagine watching everyone you love dying and you living for who knows how long, I probably wouldn't be able to take it.)
Furthermore, I just love how Rain and Machika interacted, they were hilarious together and also sweet at the same time especially when Machika says to Rain, "I sure am unlucky! My first Target as an Assassin is an Immortal. So I am going to follow you until we find a way to make you human. I'm your Grim Reaper." Aaaahh I completely gushed for like five minutes after she said that and went quickly to read the next volume. Its just Rain and Mackika are so awesome. An Assassin and an immortal on a journey together that's asking for trouble but there they are going on their merry way. This manga was just the best. I am totally in love with Kaori Ozaki's writing and drawing.
Ps. I read this back 2 years ago but recently reread it again because its that awesome. I daresay I love it almost as much as I love Inuyasha.

A student suggested I read this, so I did. It was a quick read (30 min) but there was nothing spectacular about this. The characters weren't really interesting (and their actions were unbelievable--everyone is after the immortal Methusula because he's immortal and impossible to catch, and yet, he gets captured about 3 times and seems incapable of doing anything...)

If you like this, cool, but I won't be recommending it to anyone (it also drops the f-bomb a couple times)

Two really interesting leads get stuck in a not terribly good story, surrounded by uninteresting bad guys and too many hinted at subplots.

A good idea that I wanted to like more than I did.
Does it get better if you stay with it?
Is their an anime of this?

I feel bad giving up, but not sure if it's worth a second chance.

A catchy story about a young lady bounty hunter out to capture the only person her grandfather ever failed to catch. But in meeting Rain, she finds that the world is much more complicated than just good and bad.

It was okay, nothing too special plot or character wise for me. Don’t think I’ll continue this series due to lack of interest on my part.

I really enjoyed this manga. It wasn't great but it was definitely good and i have high hopes for the rest of the series. This volume was an introduction and it was a good one, but after all that is what it was, an introduction. I have a feeling this is one of those manga in which there is going on a lot more than what you may think at the beginning and that it can be very dark because when i searched it in google and saw the pictures, i found this picture that reminded me a lot of Neon Genesis Evangelion (my favorite anime ever (along with Death Note)) specially since there is something going on with angels.

*Arrrg i'm so mad right now, i've been trying to insert the pictures almost for 40 minutes and i'm not able to do it from the original site and the internet right now is against me since i can't seem to be able to post them elsewhere so i can finally insert them here. I'll try tomorrow and see how it goes since they are pictures that i definitely want to post here.

I also have to say that the age difference between Rain and Machika makes me uncomfortable, he is over 600 hundred years and she is 15 and it is obvious where their relationship is heading, even though in this volume there is 0 romance. I probably should already be used to the "hundreds of years older guy" trope since it is common in YA but i'm not and probably never will, though i can kind of ignore it but in this manga is really hard since Machika is just 15. I wish the author had made her at least 19 years old but i will pretend she is older and hope that makes it easier.

Rereading an old favorite! I absolutely loved this series growing up as it was one of my first collected mangas. Volume 1 held up beautifully! I think the art is truly stunning and the story has so many elements I adore. The first volume is very strong, introducing our hero and the titular Immortal Rain, though I believe the Japanese name for the series translates to Meteor Methuselah. There is just enough unexpected turns and set up in this volume to really get me excited for the character and plot progression and the small moments of comedy are stellar. It’s such a cinematic series too. Would be an amazing anime. Ghibli-esque in all the right ways or even Eureka Seven vibes. Can’t wait to continue!

I read Immortal Rain with my two older sisters growing up years ago when we are younger. I thought of it recently and got my hands on it for cheap & gave it another read through, curious how it would be as an adult now. It’s an enjoyable story line and I love the art, I do feel like some things translated a little odd into English or doesn’t quite sound the way I’m sure it was meant to sound originally. Maybe it’s just me, I don’t know. I do know some people are bothered with the age difference between Rain & Machika but, so many popular books and stories are very similar and not frowned upon. Twilight with the vampires & humans, ACOTAR series with immortal fae and humans for example.. all the same. Just my thoughts on it all. Was a nice blast from the past, anyways.

Diam di rumah aja hari produktif gini. Jadi seneng :")

Ceritanya menarik, meski sempat agak membosankan di tengah-tengah. Udah lama nggak baca komik kayak gini.

Maniss banget. Sama satu lagi, Eury dan Ayla! 😍

One of my favorite manga series. Please someone, anyone, pick up the license and bring the English version to print so I can cry over the ending from the comfort of my bed without sobbing over a laptop.

Equal parts funny, heartfelt, and heartbreaking, I love Immortal Rain from the very first pages to the fan-translated final ones. 5/5
