So, first things first, this is not romance. Anyone who picks up the books because Naomi Chase is a pseudonym of Maureen Smith will be sorely disappointed—not because of the storytelling, but because the genre really isn’t romance.

About the book—can you say, Drama? So much happens, and rather than recap what others have said, I’ll just mention the things that stuck out for me:
-Lots of hot raunchy sex
-Plenty of twists and turns that leave you with your mouth open
-No warm fuzzies in this storyline
-DRAMA! (Notice it’s in all caps)

To be honest, I’m not really a fan of Tamia Luke. I thought it was terrible that she was being blackmailed about her past, but really, she’d been lying to Brandon for a long time, too. Considering she wanted to be his wife and knows about his family’s political aspirations, I can’t figure out how in the world she thought she would keep so many secrets under wraps.

Brandon came off as such a good guy, but nearing the end I saw another side of him that makes me think Mr. Chambers is not quite what he seems. I kinda liked the fact that he had an edge, so it’ll be interesting to see how things play out in the next book.

BTW, the book ends on a cliffhanger, but the other books are available already, so I can jump right into them.

Can you say SCANDALOUS...what a THRILLING ride...an ENGAGING and colorful cast of characters...and it's SIMPLY HORRIBLE the way Mrs. Chase just leaves us HANGING...lol...Tamia will make you want to reach in and SMACK her throughout the whole tale...she continuously digs a DEEPER hole at each and every SHOCKING twist and turn...her house of cards DEFINITELY tumbles in the end...and even though this is NOT your typical romance I'm still rooting for Tamia and Brandon to have a HEA (smile)...what can I say I'm a HOPEFUL romantic...DEFINITELY a page turner...and I CAN'T wait to read the sequel!

Definitely one of my favorite books of all time. I loved the storyline. I did not want it to end.

Tamia and Brandon were the type of couple that I fell in love with and wished for them to have a happy ever after.

I feel that Cynthia had something to do with Dominic?

The content here is so fascinating that I read it again.

There was no way to describe how good that was....

Tamia had dreamt about her grandma and it was incredible. It was possible that she was knitting Tamia's blanket.

A must read and I highly recommend.

It was no fun. I wanted it to be over. The ending was depressing and unfinished. I wish I had not read the book.

GENRE CONFUSION:
I bought this because it was labeled “Erotic Romance” in RT Book Reviews magazine. Unfortunately it was mislabeled and should have been called “Erotic Fiction.” Romance is defined as having a happy ending, this book does not. The couple starts out happy, and then they slowly break up during the book, which again is the opposite of “romance.” I would not have bought it if it had been correctly labeled. Although the word “fiction” appears on the side of the book, Amazon’s product page does not show or state this. Again, making it difficult for the buyer to know what they’re getting.

STORY BRIEF:
Tamia was a porn star to pay for college. She wore a mask in her movies to keep her identity secret. Since then she has been working for an ad agency and doing well. Her boyfriend Brandon is the son of a wealthy politician. Tamia is doing everything she can to get Brandon to marry her, including lying to him about her past as a porn star, her current address, and her sister in prison. Dominic discovers Tamia’s identity and threatens to tell her boss and Brandon about her porn star past if she does not become his lover. She becomes his lover and enjoys it. She also tells more lies to Brandon as she spends time with Dominic. All the characters in this book are African-American with a lot of ethnic phrases.

REVIEWER’S OPINION:

THE BAD:
It’s hard to enjoy a book when you don’t like the heroine. I did not like Tamia. I had no sympathy for her. She made bad decisions with a disastrous ending, and the reader has no idea what will happen to her. It’s a hanging, unfinished, unsatisfying ending. Prior to the end, I felt this was a 2 star book, primarily because I did not enjoy the romantic relationship being torn apart. But the end was so depressing that I reduced it to 1 star.

I was unhappy with unanswered questions about Dominic and Tamia’s sister Fiona. Fiona’s motives and actions were so unrelated to the plot, they were weird, like they were pulled out of the air to give a twist to the book, but they didn’t fit. There were some other odd plot pieces that felt thrown in and not completed, for example Lou and the FBI.

Something else I didn’t like - too much repetitive wealth exaggeration. It seemed like every fifth page or so, there was a mention of some top-tier luxury lifestyle item. All the main characters wear expensive designer clothes, work in prestigious places, and are smarter than everyone else. This included Brandon, his parents, Tamia, Dominic, and Cynthia. It rubbed me wrong – like the author was bragging about all this upper-class wealth and spending. It felt superficial, pretentious, and snobby. It was hard to relate to such perfect people with their perfect lifestyles. I prefer interesting personalities with some vulnerability - more genuine people.

THE GOOD:
I think the writer has a good writing style. I would enjoy reading her work if she used a different plot and had some depth to her characters. There were a lot of really good, hot sex scenes.

DATA:
Story length: 323 pages. Swearing language: strong. Sexual language: strong/erotic. Number of sex scenes: 10. Estimated number of sex scene pages: 12. Setting: current day Houston, Texas. Copyright: 2011. Genre: Erotic fiction, African-American.

Book #1, "EXPOSED" Awesome book. Hot, ghetto, but realistic as hell. I rarely read African American authors anymore because I find their story lines are way too depressing (kids getting shot, people dying of cancer, etc.); who wants to read that shit? I can watch the local news for that. I read to escape everyday reality and I needed to find someone who could deliver a good ethnic story straight from the hood. Naomi Chase did exactly that. I ran out to buy the second book "Deception" and finished it in two days. I read her author's bio and found that she used to be a reporter and loved to read since childhood. I simply admire writers that can tell a good story. I'm headed to the bookstore next weekend to get the third book "Betrayal". I can't tell you why but she always leaves you with a shock in the last chapter to make you get the next book. Oh, and my husband was pleased after I finished Deception because he reaped the benefits over, and over, and over again, all in one weekend. It was great!!!

Excellent book.
I can't stand Tamia. She is manipulative and a liar and doesn't deserve Brandon. At every opportunity she made the absolute wrong decision. Her default was to lie. She lied about everything. I didn't have a problem with Cynthia. She was in love with her collegue but didn't act on it. Fiona's crazy ass. 🤪 oh, let's not forget Dominic. I can't stand him. He was evil and a cheater.
Time to read book 2.

this was very good story telling, but I had so many different emotions going on while reading the book. ***MIGHT BE SPOILERS**

This was a very detailed story from beginning to end though as you might already know the end was left as a cliffhanger. Story involves Tamia, Brandon, Dominic, Cynthia and other minor characters. Tamia had everything a good job and boyfriend who is Brandon until Dominic came into her life and turn everything upside down.

TAMIA
You would love to hate Tamia but you can't, even though she cheated and messed everything up deep down I was still pulling i know crazy but for her she is a good person but her lies just caught up to her as well as her past. Even though the book ended with her in a very messed up situation I really believe she will get her happy ending not sure what the author will do with her character but I believe that she really do love Brandon and believe they should be together. She wasted time on trying to be prefect for BRandon's parents and keeping her secret that she didnt know what she had till it was gone but don't get me wrong the constant cheating irked the hell out of me.

BRANDON
Upper crust in society but you have to give it to Brandon, like Dominic said he had some gangtsa in him. I truly underestimated Brandon, I commend him on not sorta cheating and yes I do consider the kiss with Cynthia cheating granted what TAmia was doing to him. He is a very successful lawyer who can't figure out if his girlfriend is cheating or not. I guess he got the right girl in the end wasn't happy with that, but then again you can't really consider it the end because it's a CLIFFHANGER.

DOMINIC
ok in the beginning he was sexy as hell, hot and everything under the sun, but I just hate his trifling you know what. I don't want to give away too much but he was the worst kind of vilIian I have read in these books which you can't even classify as a romance novel, he better get his in the upcoming book.

CYNTHIA
Sweet girl but too sweet for me she was in love with Brandon but I guess, I loved her but I don't know even when she finally got with Brandon it felt like a quickie.

As for everybody else, especially Fiona she is on some girl interrupted thing in the end don't know what that was all about but again we don't know because it was a CLIFFHANGER. But I have to say the sex was crazy good and could have done with out the "N" word begin used so many times but I get it, they might have money but for some of them you can take them out the hood but you can't take the hood out of them.

A House of Cards,

Things haven’t always been easy for Tamia Luke. No father, a sick and dying mother and a sister attracted to trouble, there came a time when Tamia had do what she had to do, though she didn’t want to. Years later life has leveled out for her. Things are well at work, she’s up for a promotion and her man is to die for. Things couldn’t get better. What she never considered was they could get worse. With her past following closely in her rear-view mirror, it’s once again time for Tamia to do what she has to do, even though she doesn’t want to. But this time around, more is at risk. Will the risk outweigh the possible consequences?

Funny. I didn’t really want to read this book based on the what I considered an unbelievable synopsis. Yeah, right, how can your client make you his sex slave? Ain’t no way! Here we go again… I read it anyway and I’m glad I did. Surprisingly, “Exposed” was not what I thought. Okay, so the plot generates more heat than plausibility, but Chase has an easy-to-read style and a nice touch with her characters. This amusing, drama and secret-fueled piece delivered just the kind of entertainment I’ve been craving.

“Exposed” is a unique and surprising reading experience. I see that this is another author using a pen name. I just may have to check out her other titles.

In this tantalizing story, Tamia Luke is on top-of-the-world as all of her dreams and her hard work and sacrifices are about to pay off. Tamia has a loving boyfriend, wealthy attorney Brandon Chambers, and is convinced Brandon is ready to take their relationship to the next level. After several successful ad campaigns, Tamia is now the front runner for a major promotion at work, all she needs to do is score big with the new client. But, the new client, Dominic Archer, wants much more than a successful marketing strategy, as he wants her very soul by agreeing to be his mistress, if not he will reveal her scandalous past. As Tamia reluctantly agrees to his conditions, she is reminded of what her gambling uncle always told her, that the taller his gravity-defying card castles were built the more likely it was going to fall because of the higher number of cards to be supported, and now Tamia has added more cards to her already juggling lifestyle, and is about to get twisted up in her web of deceit.

This fact-paced story teases you right to the point you believe you have, a piece of the puzzle solved – but just then the author adds another unsuspected twist, using the tension and release technique perfectly.

EXPOSED is full of vibrant complex characters, well-woven into the story, and adds to the exploration of the issues of class, status, loyalty, friendship, and family. The sex scenes are well-crafted sizzling erotic escapades that will make you smile and shiver.

Naomi Chase is a writer with a gift for erotica, mystery, and intrigue, and keeps the reader engaged from page one to the end. I surely hope there is a sequel to EXPOSED as I look forward to see what is next for Tamia Luke and her supporting cast.

Excellent book! I was a bit reluctant to read this book, cause I'm a huge fan of romance and knew it wasn't going to end with a HEA. I'm also convinced that Maureen Smith can do no wrong, and didn't want her alter-ego to disappoint me. Well, no worries here. This book was good, but I was so tense reading it, cause I was so worried for Tamia and all the lying she was doing. I was just waiting on the bottom to drop out for her, even though I couldn't decide whether or not I liked her. The whole Tamia/Brandon/Dominic dynamic was intriguing; I couldn't decide who she wanted more. And then Dominic's 'wrinkle' just amped up the drama. Lawd! And the ending was just, jaw-dropping.

Such a good book! So glad I can move right on to Deception!

This book was sooo hot. I can't even begin to tell you how vivid the erotic scenes were.

I was in awe of how Tamia allowed her past to get in the way of her future with that fine man Brandon...

This is a excellent erotic page turner that will keep you aroused and on the edge.... of your seat...among other things...

Get it!

Wow...this book!! I'm from St. Croix, USVI and I was so happy to see how the author accurately described the Island and dialects.the story was nice, long and exciting. The words she used had me looking at the dictionary in almost every page. I love learning new words as I read. I can't wait to start part 2.

Wow! A really good book.

Picture this, Tamia Luke is dating the man of her dreams, tall, dark, and handsome Brandon Chambers. Brandon is a rising attorney, who doesn't use his clout as the lietenant governor's son, to get what he so desperately wants...partnership at his law firm. Tamia is no slouch either. She is on the verge of a promotion at her advertising job. Things are looking promising for this couple until Dominic Archer enters the picture....

In order for Tamia to attend college, she had to earn some extra cash, so she took to the porn industry as Mystique. She always wore a mask, thinking she was protecting her true identity, but she got a life-long fan in Dominic. He enlists Tamia's advertising firm for an advertising campaign for his international food chain, but what he really wants is Mystique. He threatens to expose Tamia to her colleagues and Brandon, if she doesn't become his sex slave.

Thinking she has everything to lose if anyone found out about her past, Tamia agrees to this proposal. Thinking she would be disguisted, she finds herself drawn to Dominic. Later Tamia will realize that this is the catalyst for her life unraveling.

That's enough right there to have you drawn into the story, but then add an attractive co-worker, a wife, a delusional sister, drama, murder and other mayhem and you have Exposed!

If you haven't read this book, do yourself a favor and get started....TODAY!

This books was amazing. Just when you thought you had figured everything out something else happened to totally suprise you. I felt so bad for Tamia at the end. She was truly a victim. Everybody played her. I wanted to strangle Fiona for her part in all this mess. I didnt like Cynthia at all. Brandon's actions were scary at times. He seemed a little crazy.

This book had me going! Tamia should've just been honest from the start with Brandon, why enter into a relationship built on lies and deception! Fiona is crazy as a fool and Cynthia was a conniving little wench! The Chamber's are snobs and I don't know if I would've wanted to be in that family. This storyline was excellent and I hate I didn't read it earlier! I look forward to reading Deception and Betrayal as well as the back story of how Tamia became Mystique! Great job Naomi Chase!

Audiobook

Narration was Really Good!

I listened to this again because I just got the third book and it's been a while and it was just as good this time as the first.

Tamia is in love with Brandon - a hot shot lawyer - but he's from an uppity family and she doesn't have the pedigree to fit in. But Brandon's a good guy and doesn't care what his parents think...he's his own man.

Unfortunately Tamia doesn't figure that out until it's too late. She has a sordid past that she's trying like crazy to keep in her past, but in pops Dominic Archer and let the blackmail and cheating begin.
This is a cheaty-cheaterson book and I HATE those, but I spent the money, so I'm gonna read it. All cheating aside...it's a really good book.

I only wanted to slap Tamia hmmm.... 15-20 times. Bless her heart. She's intelligent, but doesn't have the sense god gave her.

This has a major cliffy, but the next two are out so you can just read on.

Really great story, has some Great Sex scenes, major plot twist, well developed characters and great writing. I loved it!

Oh. My. Goodness. That was intense. Most days I hated to turn off my Mp3 player, but tonight I just couldn't, it got too good. I had 4 hours left tonight and I just couldn't turn it off. I just went onto Audible and purchased book 2. I can't wait to start it.
This book had me talkin and laughin out loud in the gym and in the car; the way I talk at movies. I have to say, the story was good, as well as the characters; but some of em had me askin out loud, really Chick? The story was alil suspenseful. Tamia, Tamia, Tamia, maybe she should have told the truth, because "what you do in the dark, will come to light". I would've left Brandon's ass alone after that party. Ain't he grown? Why he need his bourgie-ass parents' approval?(why can't boo-zhee be spelled like this?) Good book.

All I can is wow! This book was riveting from beginning to end. It was nice to finally see a couple not live happily ever after. There were so many twist and turns that I was often saying, I can't believe she is doing this, or this guy is a psycho, or how dumb can she be, and my favorite oh no she didn't! The only part I didn't get was Brandon and Cynthia, she was just so lame, and it seemed like a serious rebound relationship. Brandon loving her was unbelievable to me. I would love to read a Tamia sequel...that would be a juicy read to see what happened to her and that evil sister!

I reviewed this a couple of years back on another website. I think I was hard on Naomi Chase. I may've hated the protagonist and the ending but I kept turning pages and that's all that an author asks for. Not only did I turn pages, I had vowed I wouldn't pick up the sequel but guess what?... I did.
