This is a must-own reference for any travel lover, and would be an excellent resource in travel planning or just day dreaming. I checked it out from the library, but I liked it enough to add it to my wish list. The book is a weighty full-color guide to world festivals, parties, and events, such as Oktoberfest, Carnival, Burning Man, and Fiesta de San Fermin. Each festival has a couple of pages devoted to it, including information such as date, location, maps, insets, and notable facts. The book is sorted by continent, and there are handy month and country lists as well. My only small criticism is with "The Best of the Rest" sections. Each festival is only described with a paragraph or two; it would have been nice to have more information about each, but it would have definitely made the book quite a bit thicker.

What a fun book to flip through! The photos and discriptions of the various world parties are fantastic!

The ones that were of most interest to me were:

p. 76 La Tomatina in Bunol, Spain. Huge tomato fight!

p. 114 Oktoberfest. With the way we celebrate this in Pittsburgh at the Penn Brewery, I can't imagine that we would survive the real thing! :-) The big six beers are listed as Augustiner, Hacker-Pschorr, Hofbrau, Lowenbrau, Paulaner, Spaten.

p.154 Cooper's Hill Cheese Rolling. This is hystarical, they throw cheese down a hill and people run/roll/tumble down the hill after it!

p 260 Aloha Festival in Hawaii in 6 weeks long in September and October.

World Party: The Rough Guide to the World's Best Festivals (Penguin 2007) (394.2) makes me want to pack a suitcase today. I've shared this book with my sixteen-year-old budding photographer who loves to travel in hopes that it will inspire her. My rating: 7/10, finished 12/1/2010.

My husband is in the book on page 10. Look for the bald man with the yellow infinity tattoo on his arm.

We found out about this two years after we got the book.
