With the alien Magistrates determined to destroy all that remains of the human Gamant civilization, Jeremiel Baruch, commander of the Underground's fleet, launches his forces on a last desperate campaign against the enemy. Jeremiel's first goal is to rescue Mikael Calas, the leader of the Gamants, and as many of Mikael's people as possible from the planet Horeb and certain death at the hands of the Magisterial troops. Then Jeremiel and an elite team have targeted Palaia Station, the very citadel of Magisterial power, for a surprise, hit-and-run invasion.
But the Magistrates are also sending reinforcements to Horeb, determined to capture rebel leader Calas and to destroy the long- awaited savior prophecies indicate may be about to be born there.
What neither side knows is that they are all about to be engulfed in the final stage of a conflict that began before either the Magistrates or the Gamants existed, a conflict which, before it is over, will sweep across all of time and space...
The Redemption of light by Kathleen M. Gear Review: The Struggle and Triumphs of a universe where one society is deemed different and expendable. The controlling powers another alien race has used the Gamant people as research, as slaves, as expendable. The Gamant people believe in one god, in a messiah that will free them from the terror, pain, and extermination. Things have been changing, and some of the soldiers of the Magistrates the ruling alien society are finding out about their practices of torture, mind experiments, and extermination and they begin first to join the Gamant cause, but also convert others to help the people. This is the final battle and things predicted are coming to ahead. Will the Gamant people survive? Will the Magistrates win? The last four chapters are dynamic and dramatic, so hard to put down the book. Kathleen Gear has given in this early book many of the ideas, concepts and mythology that are within her People series.
An early offering from Kathleen O'Neal Gear, part of a husband and wife team who have written most of their books together. This Light Trilogy is a work of science fiction that is thought provoking as well as exciting. It is surprisingly and at times frighteningly close to the story of the Jews and Nazi Germany. This series may be hard to find, but worth the effort. Her husband, Michael Gear wrote a number of science fiction stories as well, one of my personal favorites, The Artifact.
