Rate this book
In his inimitable style Rab C Nesbitt tells us his life story - no holds barred - in a hilarious and provocative novel by his creator. Ian Pattison `People say puberty is a bad time for a kid but in my view it`s not a patch on getting born. Getting born is a bastard. It`s a free fall bungee jump without a rope...You get a lot of time to think when you`re banged up in a womb all day. Will be handsome? Will I be rich? I pondered these questions long and hard till in the end I just thought, `Que sera sera`. No. I ask only two things of life. Courage and dignity, Well. Three things if you include the ability to shit Maltesers...From opinionated foetus to fiercely proud father the wealth of Rab`s wisdom and acute philosophical ramblings make A Stranger Here Myself one of the funniest and most refreshing novels, ever. Brilliant read for any Rab C Nesbitt fans its an early biography of the life he had. (fictional obvs) And includes many of the characters. It gives an insight into how their relationships, bonds and friendships are formed in the backstreets of Govan.
Thoroughly enjoyable read

Brilliant writing, cleverly funny, deeply moving - and devastating. Story is so brutal and totally human. Ultimately very sad.

Really funny. Brilliantly narrated by John Sessions, the story begins from Rab C Nesbitt in the womb, already craving nicotine from his mother’s smoking habits. A humorous portrayal of the bleak reality of growing up on a council estate in Scotland.

One of the most consistently funny books. Starts off high and continues on a high throughout. A great expression of the human condition (whatever that means). Raw but funny raw. Not for the faint-hearted. Aye. Right.
