Kenneth Diamond doesn't know why he's been summoned to a remote island in the grip of a police state. He guesses it's because he is the only person who can authenticate a work of art that could be hugely valuable to the government. He wants to be polite to his hosts - but doesn't want to become entangled in their murderous politics. He was warned before he left 'Don't get involved'. But after he meets a young islander, and stumbles on what he believes is a way to help an impoverished parish, he finds himself hopelessly involved, with disastrous consequences.
Andrew Wilton (1942 -) was the first Curator of the Clore Gallery for the Turner Collection at Tate Britain, London, and is the author of many works on the artist, including the standard catalogue of the watercolours.
