I picked this one up for the dense, textured, highly stylized art, which works really really well. Even if I'm not so sure about this sort of philosophical narrative, literally concerning the search for happiness from life, and what exactly that means. I guess this is a pretty important subject, but it also lends itself to platitude a lot of the time. Of which this offers plenty, albeit (at best) buried in geometric urban landscapes swarming with conflicting messages.
The hare in the story is out looking for joy with a conflicted heart and mind. The tortoise Jo offers assistance along the way (and yes it does borrow from the fable). It is a good quest... Where is joy after all... The drawing is very dense and geometrical but I liked Smooch enough to create my own knitted version who travels with us on roadtrips looking for joy:)
