What would Halloween be without haunted houses? Dozens of films have been made about them, numerous scary attractions pop up each year to open there doors to screaming teens, and it seems that every channel has there version of “experts” investigating real-life haunted houses. Between all of these versions of the subject, how can one re-interrupt the old haunted house? Well, it seems horror director Darren Lynn Bousman is attempting to do it in a medium one might not expect from him
This comics is really good looking. And the spectacular artwork doesn't end with the covers, the whole comics is done beautifully, with great care to details so the whole thing looks sweet.
There is something else that sets this one apart from most of the other comics I read. Abattoir is full of gruesome and explicit details, but the main story is done so that you need to think and connect the dots in order to realize the big picture. So in a way it is brutal and bloody, but still subtle enough when it needs to be. A great combination, I loved that.
Abattoir is a horror comics, it tells a few parallel stories. -Firstly there is a man who one day just snaps and butchers his whole family on his kid birthday party, whit the whole town invited and watching.
-Secondly a story about a man who has the misfortune of having to sell a house that was a scene of a massacre in a small town where nobody will want to buy it, right? Wrong! Nobody normal would want to buy it. And here enters a Jebediah dude. Creepy as hell. He wants to buy it at all costs and won't take no for a answer.
There is something seriously wrong with this Jebediah. He has a sinister agenda. But that is another story, one I don't want to spoil:)
This comics had a amazing depth and complexity to it, I loved it very much. It also had truck loads of scenes that meticulously show atrocities and things that can make you vomit:) Don't read if you're overly sensitive.
Good semi-realistic artwork, love the amount of gore which is a bit rare even in horror comics. Very interesting concept, but the story unfortunately meanders around until a lackluster end.
I discovered this graphic novel randomly while searching for new ones to read on the Google Play Store and I noticed that one of the creators of it was the director of SAW.
My first thought going into this one was "This should be pretty brutal" and I definitely wasn't wrong. Within the first few pages an entire birthday party is murdered by the Mitchell family's father and it continues to get ever more crazy as the series goes on.
The story largely focuses on a Realtor named Richard Ashwalt who is attempting to sell the Mitchell family's home after the brutal murder. While investigating the house in the middle of the night, an old man appears named Jebediah Crone who is insistent on buying the house. When Richard refuses to sell Jebediah the house, he unknowingly finds himself the target of Jebediah's wrath and it quickly escalates from there.
I actually enjoyed this graphic novel quite a bit but the reason I'm giving this one 2 stars is because of the ending, or the total lack of one. The story just, stops, right in the middle of it and there's no true conclusion to the events that occur in the story. The story just jumps to the epilogue like none of what happened even mattered, which is a major disappointment because the rest of the comic was great.
It's worth mentioning that this comic isn't for the faint of heart as well. It is quite brutal in its depiction of murder, and there's also some nudity mixed in as well (Only on one page, but still). Considering this comic was created by the director of SAW, this should be expected.
