Why is it so hard to admit your feelings for the guy who's been your bestie since Kindergarten? It doesn’t matter that Terence comes over with his family for Sunday dinners.
It doesn’t matter that he’s grown cute and handsome all at once.
And it sure doesn’t matter that he sends my heart stumbling like I’m runaway roller skates.
Terence and I are just friends.
Best friends. Old friends. Never-to-be-together-ever friends.
I figured that we’d grow in different directions, given just how different we are. But it’s turning out to be just the opposite. He reads me like no one else can, and I tell him what he needs to hear.
Still, we’re just friends.
Or are we? I’m reaching new heights of local roller derby fame just as Terence is about to become the head of the first search and rescue service in these parts. We only want to celebrate with each other.
If only I could figure out what that gleam in his eye really means…
Barking up the Wrong Tree is a wholesome and sweet friends-to-lovers romantic comedy quick read with a Border Collie who always saves the day. It’s part of the series “Finding Love at the Doggy Spa”, but can be read as a standalone.
Part of the Finding Love at the Doggy Spa series ~ I am not exactly sure what number this one is (maybe #5), but it's a standalone because the characters from the other books I read were just a quick mention in this one.
Featuring ~ dual 1st person POV, best friends for 18 years to lovers, accountant, roller derby, sweet, no steamage
Alli & Terrence These two were so cute and sweet I can't even take it. Their friendship is healthy and supportive. It's typical friends to lovers trope in that both have secret feelings for each other, but neither want to bring it up and risk ruining what they have going on. Will one of them take a chance?
Ranger, the border collie, steals the show when he's on page. I loved Terrence's idea to help expand the Doggy Spa.
Overall, a quick read that's a great addition to this adorable series.
*Thanks to Elsie Woods and Booksprout for the ARC. I am voluntarily leaving my honest review*
Nice, easy, quick (novella) read with a clean friend's to lovers romance and cute (but also highly intelligent and trained) dog. I enjoyed reading it, but I don't think I'll be thinking about this book at any point in the future.
Terrence and Alli are the perfect friends to love story as well as complete opposites but they are so perfect together! Alli is quirky and fun loving while Terrence is strait laced accountant who doesn’t take chances. In addition to a sweet romcom I love the addition of the mountain rescue dog story as it added some adventure to the the love story. I loved Ranger the border collie and now I really want a border collie! This is a story within a series but you can be read alone. It is a fast read and if I could give it 10 ⭐️ I would!.

Barking up the wrong tree es el tercer libro de la serie “Finding love at the doggy spa”.
– this was in the limited edition Fall Into Love romantic comedy collection
– this is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone
– this is told from Alli and Terrence’s points of view
Review:
This was a sweet best friend’s to more romance 😍. I definitely wanted to read more in their story and felt it was a bit too short (this is why I removed a star) but it got across the points of their story. I really enjoyed Alli and Terrence’s friendship and how they knew little things about each other and could call the other one out when they were holding themselves back from things. They were also there for each other through the highs and the lows. Both of them also supported the other in their goals, especially when they had doubts.
Summary:
Alli hasn’t had luck in dating and has turned her focus onto different hobbies to take up her time and attention. Right now that means roller derby…even though her clumsiness makes navigating the skates difficult. Her constant is her best friend Terrence.
Terrence is a worrier, he just can’t help it, especially when it comes to Alli. He’s been around her so long that he knows how she operates, going all in with abandon and her clumsiness. She is likely to get hurt, and he can’t always be there for her due to work. And that worries him to no end.
When Alli and Terrence start to feel something different between them, they worry that they’ll have to deny their feelings in order to keep their friendship. But when someone else shows interest in Terrence, Alli wants to stake her claim. Will she do it? Or will she take the safe route and pretend that nothing has changed between them?
Short but very sweet addition to the Finding Love at the Doggie Spa series set in a fictional mountain ski resort town in Colorado. Told from the POV of the two main characters, Alli and Terrance have been best friends since kindergarten. They have worked very hard to keep any romantic entanglements out of their relationship but have discovered hidden feelings of wanting more from their attachment. Alli can't decide which activity to concentrate on, currently it is jouning the roller derby club which is unfortunate since she is very clumsy and Terrence is always worried about her hurting herself. Terrence is working as an accountant at the doggie spa while on the side making plans to add Mountain Rescue Services to the doggie spa. He and his dog, Border Collie Ranger, have done many mountain rescues in the past. Now they have to impress the owner of the doggie spa to get her to add the service. Ranger may be the best character in the book. Meanwhile another woman seems to be interested in Terrance and this ultimately jolts Alli to take actions to keep Terrance. Alls well that ends well, including the owner being convinced to add mountain rescue services to her business. I was sorry the book was so short, but it was still delightful and earned my 5 star rating.
A shorter book that is fringe adjacent to the delightful "Finding Love at the Doggy Spa" series. Terrance is an account at the dog spa, and his best friend since 6 years old is Alli. Ter-Ter and Alli-Bear, along with Terrance's dog Ranger, really are best friends, until they're not. I call this fringe adjacent because Terrance is an accountant for the spa and Alli isn't working at the spa, yet much of the story centers around Terrance and a new proposal for the spa. It's not quite like the other books in the series, and that makes it extra fun. Same great setting and some of the same characters, but with a twist. It's a future proposal offering for the spa, and Terrance and Ranger are trained and ready to add another jewel to the hotel and spa's crown. Along the way there's fun with Alli and-gasp!-Roller Derby! You'll laugh and chuckle and get warm and gooey inside. A wonderful addition not to be missed! It’s not a surprise that two life-long friends can fall in love with each other. Even in Alli and Terence’s situation. Both have opposite personalities, but they are so perfect for each other. Alli is a perky female who enthusiastically dives into things. Terence is a planner who digs deeply into the details of everything he does. By the time Alli realizes her feelings are much more than friendship, she turns cautious in her interactions with him because she doesn’t want to put their friendship in jeopardy.
Terence knows her like no one else ever could. And Alli knows how to encourage and support him. But when Kasia shows interest in Terence and invites him out to dinner with her, how will Alli respond? Is it time to realize that they have grown-up feelings for each other now and maybe this is a good time to step up and say something? Or will she pretend it doesn’t matter to her that Kasia is making a move on her “friend” – and she might lose him?
Ranger, the border collie, is my hero! ‘Nuff said, grab your copy and find out why!
There were times in this book when my heart stopped from the beginning, and Alli started rollerblading toward Terence's yard. I will not say too much because I love a spoiler-free review. Ranger is so cute and makes my heart jump with happiness. The way that Terence and Alli have been friends since kindergarten is so adorable; it is like there is a story already done, and the characters have established backstories. Sometimes when you feel so passionately, there is a fear that they will not love you back and cripple a relationship. This did not happen, but it could have if not for Kasia's help. Friends to lovers are my favorite type of romance because of the history and the companionship these two have for each other. This book is funny, witty, and sometimes scary but in a good way, and I cannot wait for more of this series, I will go back and read them sometime just another set of books for my TBR list!

Terrence and Alli have been best friends since grade school. They made a promise to one another many years ago that they would always be best friends and never cross the line into anything further. They have remained best friends, but both Terrence and Alli are realizing that they have more feelings for the other than BFF's. However, neither party is willing to take the leap due to fear of ruining their friendship. This was a sweet and funny rom-com with a few laughs along the way. I enjoyed it immensely. If you want a short and clean romance and you like the best friends to lovers genre, you will enjoy this one. I also always love books with adorable dogs like Ranger. Ranger practically steals the show!
Thank you to the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Barking up the wrong tree is a super sweet and funny book! I was hooked on the story from page one I did not want to put it down. Alli is the quirky best friend of Terence and she does everything with only the flair she can. Terence is more of a no-nonsense accountant at the dog paw day spa. They are best friends until they both realize that they want to be more without ruining their friendship. Alli finds herself in some tricky situations because she has come to realize that she is in love with Terence and the laughter will ensue. And lets not forget about Ranger the highly trained rescue dog and all the fun he brings into the mix. If you are looking for a fun and quick read about best friends falling in love with a mix of doggie fun this book is for you. The only complaint that I had is that its over I wanted more Alli, Terence, and of course Ranger.
Sometimes it’s hard to see what has been there all along. Sometimes, even though you’ve known each other forever, you really can’t hear what the other person isn’t saying. Sometimes hearing who you really are isn’t easy. But when your friendship grows into forever love sometimes all the sometimes add up to always.
Barking Up the Wrong Tree characters Alli and Terrance show that real friendship can weather the storms of self doubt and with each others support and love can grow into a HEA. But not without the help of Ranger the rescue dog.
I loved the mix of compassion and challenge between the characters. Ali ‘s career exploits are hilarious. The book has just the right balance of laughs and small tensions. Having Ranger’s awareness of his human’s feelings really adds to plot. This was a wonderful book! Left me feeling happy!

Allie and Terrence know each other from age six and are the bestest of friends. Except now he’s filled out in his hsoulders and is a smashing-looking Viking god and she’s still the flamboyant try-anything screwup, but opposites attracts, right?
I loved the interactions of Allie and Ter-Ter and I loved how he t tongue-tied and she got territorial. Not available this Thursday indeed. A convincing and sweet friends to lovers with a few curvballs and several misunderstandings without the usual lets-make-him/her-jealous cliche. An enjoyable 2-hour read.
Recommended for lovers of easy, sweet, NA friends-to-lovers romantasy.
Barking Up the Wrong Tree is art of the wonderful Doggy Spa series. It can also be read as a delightful stand-alone. Alli and Terence made a pact when they were just children to be best friends forever. As adults they still are best friends although they could not be more different. Maybe that is not what they want anymore. They are both great characters but the star of this book is the amazing border Collie Ranger.
I always enjoy my visits to the Doggy Spa and this one was particularly delightful and laugh out loud funny at times. I enjoyed it and highly recommend it.
What a fun friends-to-lovers story! Both Alli and Terence notice that things are changing in their relationship, but they are commited to staying friends forever like they promised as kids. Trying for more is too risky. But they are both facing other risks, and maybe they can take this one, too. I loved their relationship. Alli is fun and outgoing, and Terence sweet and thoughtful. They have terrific banter and a solid foundation of caring. I laughed a lot while reading this.
He works for the dog spa as an accountant — and comes up with a great idea He suggests they become part of the mountain ranger rescue team. And one guy is like - yeah right!! But he proves to the guy he is right == thanks to his best friend!! This is a great love story - LOTS of unexpected happenings!! LOVED IT,.

This was a really sweet friends to lovers romance. It was a short story but it felt as fulfilling as a full length story and I’m glad that it didn’t have a lot of extra unnecessary drama. Because it really was just right as it was, it had a lot of humor and a little pull at the heartstrings. Alli and Terrence had the sweetest friendship and I loved seeing them grow into more.

This book is a sweet friends to lovers romance with an adorable dog named Ranger. Terrence and Alli are best friends and both are afraid to find out if they'd make it as a romantic couple. It was an easy and entertaining read full of fun, friendship, and plenty of misunderstandings. An adorable book that will tug at your heartstrings.

Such a sweet friends to lovers story! I love returning to this series, Finding Love at the Doggy Spa, from Elsie Woods. They're so cute, funny, and happyily-ever-after. Yes, this is part of series, but you can read it as a standalone.
Bookish love ... - Ranger to the rescue - childhood best friends - roller derby - nicknames - blushing
Reviewed from an eArc. Thank you, Elsie! All opinions are my own.
This is a quick read, so the progression is on speed, but I found that I still liked the couple and the story development. Easy and fun romantic read for those with no need for strong emotional investment in the characters. Just a simple and straightforward plot set with a good pace depicting a healthy relationship.

Alli jumps from one thing to the next while Terrence is cautious with his detailed plans. She realizes she has romantic feelings for him but is afraid to ruin their friendship. There were a lot of misunderstandings and back and forth that added to drama and stretched out the potential for romance. I loved his hero dog Ranger with those amazing rescue skills.
Elsie Woods did it again! I laughed so hard at times and when it came to the more awkward part a few tears ran down my cheeks. But I'm so glad these two friends had a mediator because they really needed that push.
Thank you Elsie Woods for this wonderful book.

Alli and Terrence have been best friends since the third day of first grade. Now they are each feeling something for the other but neither wants to lose that friendship.
This is a quick read that runs the course of a week, but doesn't feel rushed. The dog is awesome as only good dogs can be. The characters are charming. And, the story is clean and wholesome.
This author's books guarantee I'll be laughing out loud. Terrance and Alli and Ranger ensure a good story with all their antics and serious rescue work. The Doggy Spa serves up a fun read while Alli trains for roller derby and Terrance prepares to showcase rescue dogs. The romance is cute, too.
