I taught both my children to read using this book. We spent ten to fifteen minutes per day on Phonics Pathways. We also used a handwriting workbook, did a little copy work,I read aloud to them and, when they were able, they read aloud to me from simple books. This was our entire homeschool literacy program and both of them were reading chapter books by the end of Kindergarten.

I cannot recommend Phonics Pathways too highly. If you are not homeschooling, use it anyway for ten minutes a day.

On another note, this book is based on American spelling and pronunciation. I am Australian and I only needed to modify it a little. It was surprisingly easy.
