Worth reading. I didn't feel there was anything earth-shatteringly new in there, but I did feel it was a good review of many of the goal-setting and "be your best self" things I've heard in the past. I really liked the section where she talks about excuses and "No Cookie Zones," which are behaviors and habits we have that we know aren't getting us anywhere but we keep doing them anyway. I felt that her examples and descriptions were useful in helping me recognize some of my own problem areas. I especially like the point that she made that yes, our excuses are valid--we wouldn't be using them otherwise. But just because something we've been telling ourselves may be true doesn't mean we have to let it limit us.

Overall, it was a good book for me to read, and I think I'll be a better person because I did.

If there ever was a book to kick start any day off, let alone the beginning of the year it is The Best Year of Your Life by Debbie Ford. I have ventured into reading her other book the shadow side of our lives, and was intrigued when I found this one on Amazon.

With an honest approach to conscious living and embracing all aspects of ourselves: Light and Shadow side, Debbie offers some fantastic techniques, and exercises not only to plan out the best year of our life, but how to go about putting those plans into action. With a smart, realistic, inspired coaching style conversation between the reader and Debbie, this makes for a provoking read, one that had be post it noting every page with fantastic quotes and gems of wisdom.

RECOMMEND IT?

Buy it now. If you only read one Non-Fiction book this year pick up this one. It faces self realization, inspiration, action, passion, and Debbie isn’t afraid to be raw with you. Short, straight to the point and powerful this book is for everyone and anyone who aspires to make the mundane magical, and to have the best year of their life – created by the powerful you

I am participating in an online course that Debbie Ford created for DailyOm called The Best Year of Your Life, so I wanted to read her novel with the same title as well. Some great nuggets of wisdom, as well as good common sense ways to get your house, life, and relationships in order, make this a great read if you are ready to commit the energy it takes to make some changes.

Inspiring!

I really liked this book. Started reading for the new year with hopes to make this the best year of my life. I wish I had met Debbie Ford and was so sad to read that she has passed away a few years ago. She is truely an angel. Very easy to read book with practical advice. A great plan for living the best year of your life, but first I have to know what it is that I want.

Si has leído algún libro parecido éste va a ser igual.

An excellent and inspiring book

I must admit, I was a little surprised by how positive this book is, after having read Debbie Ford's "good in the dark" books. But this book has a wonderful message. It isn't at all came positivity, but a real inspirational message. Thank you, Debbie. Rest in peace.

Honestly now, does anyone not want to have the best year of his or her life? How could any self-help nut, like myself, resist invoking The Best Year of Your Life in under 200 pages? I debated between 3 and 4 stars for this one, and consider it a solid 3.5. I rounded up to 4 instead of down to 3 because each chapter has only one exercise, which requires more thought than time to complete. Author Debbie Ford motivated me to do the exercises and come up with a simple and measurable game plan as well as some notes to revisit to be sure I stay on course. That’s surely worth another ½ star.

The book is divided into 3 sections, the “dream it,” “plan it,” and “live it” of the subtitle. Ford’s strength is planning, and she gets quite elaborate in setting goals and considering every aspect of them. However, readers with more simple needs and less talent or interest in identifying the details (like myself) need not complete these exercises so elaborately—the format is left open to interpretation and limited to two plans. For me it’s just analyzing my days for a couple of months to optimize my work and leisure schedules, determining the best days and hours to write, exercise, spend time with my family, and work outside the home. That, plus tuning up my office, where I discovered that, in addition to creating some storage, I need to replace a couple of items and hire people to repair several others, to make the time I spend there more efficient and enjoyable. I am now on a schedule for this that’s reasonable and will be fun.

Other topics include developing your dream life and analyzing the emotions you’ll feel, then finding immediate experiences to train you to “pre-experience” these. The section about making a clean slate is most useful, and I came up with several unexpected ideas—including being more patient while driving, by eliminating the word “idiot” from my vocabulary while in the car! The sections on self-defeating behaviors, excuses, and righteous positions might be similarly enlightening for others. Creating integrity anchors gives readers an unusual tool to help them stay accountable throughout the year to work their plan. The last sections, on self esteem, paying attention, creating unforgettable moments, and helping others were less relevant to my life and needs, but might serve others.

If you’re into self-help, The Best Year of Your Life is worth checking out. The chapters are succinct, but contain enough examples to give readers ideas about their own lives. The exercises don’t require a lot of time, even when writing down thoughts and action items—perhaps including some surprisingly easy-to-accomplish ideas that will make a big difference.

I loved the book. It's an excellent self-help book for those who want to have the best year of their lives. Sometimes we've already heard the advice, but this book is a good reminder. It's also short and to the point. It has 191 pages on how to improve and it's something that anyone can read. The language used is simple, easy, and concise. For people that have busy schedules, it's an excellent, doable read.

I wasn't going to give you the five-star review, however, I decided it's just a paragraph. What the hell? I found one paragraph I disagreed with and I quote: "You must have the ability to achieve the goal within your control. It must not require any good luck or divine intervention or depend upon another person for it be fulfilled."

Although I know where she's coming from and what she means, I think she means not to completely depend on that, and that's something I can agree with. I cannot agree that divine intervention isn't important because that's how I found her book, so I find this both comical and ironic.

A good read on how to get started, it will give you some ideas but it missed some structure. There is some repetition and probably a lot of things you heard before on how to stay motivated and be your best self. This book is written from a gentle perspective, which I like, and lots of examples but doesn't really contain a plan with tools. It's more like a book which makes you think, instead of giving you a ready made plan. So it depends on what you are really looking for. If you need something practical, there are better books out there. If you are the philosophic journal writer who gets insights by writing everything down, this might be the book for you.

I was intrigued by the title of this book after having my best year yet last year. I wanted to see if the suggestions the author made aligned with the steps I (unknowingly) took last year to create such a reality. Sure enough, a lot of the advice tracked. If you want a good framework for living your best life, this is a good place to start. However, I disliked the amount of anecdotal evidence which diminished the credibility of the statements. I also found several typos and overall, there seemed to be a lack of professionalism in this book. Towards the end, it was glaringly obvious the author just wanted to sell her services and workshops, which is frustrating.

For at least ten years I have been carrying around this program that came in a pretty box called The Best Year of Your Life. I've finally decided it's time to put it to use. In it I learned that the creator of the program has authored books, including The Best Year of Your Life. I found it a great book to inspire us to take care of ourselves and make each year the best of our lives. So glad I decided to finally open up the pretty box and take its advice.

Best Idea: Do It! Claim the moment! Begin bringing more conscious awareness to the moments of our day. When you find yourself living a moment that has special significance, stop and breathe it in. Say to yourself, either silently or out loud, "I'm going to claim this moment." The allow yourself to linger in that experience a little longer than usual, to notice what is special about it. Soak the moment in and consciously register it rather than rushing off to the next moment.
