When Nelly asks her dad why she never sees any monsters, he jokingly tells her that it's, "Because they can never get a babysitter." The empathetic young girl rushes to advertise her monster-sitting services and is soon highly in demand.

This book is a great book for a child who is an able reader in KS1, it consists of 5 chapters and 32 pages.

The book is about a young girl called Nelly who is a monster sitter; this is the first book of many. Nelly is a very brave girl as she is not afraid of monsters and talks to them as if they were no different to her.

I really like the use of descriptive words which are quite challenging to a young reader, such as 'long scaly fingers and revolting nails'.

This book showed the monsters behaving as good 'children' and the human child (Rowen) as bad mannered and rude. In the end the monsters helped Rowen become a well mannered child.

The illustrations are wonderful and very detailed; a child can sit for quite a while and look at the pictures as they match very well with the descriptions of the characters created by the Author (Kes Gray).
