It is a level 1 book of DK READERS series. I like the non-fiction books in this series. It levels books at different reading abilities, so it is easier to choose the books that are the “right book” for students / your child. Children will love the beautiful illustrations and superb full-color photographs combined with engaging, easy-to-read stories in the book about wild baby animals.

This book contains information on many different wild animals all within one book. It helps students understand how different animals come into this world whether they are born in a pouch or carried by their mother. It relates information that a 3rd grader would be interested in including the size of the baby or whether their eyes are open. It tells you if the baby is born in a cave or on the grasslands. It talks about how long the babies stay with their moms. It describes the various animal characteristics specific to the animal. It is a good book and could lead to a student wanting to know more about one of the wild animals.

One of my favorite animals was the squirrel. I learned that they have fur when they are toddlers and they are very cute.

Another one of my favorite animals was the bunny. I learned that bunnies do have fur when they are born. Or maybe they do.

I have a lot of favorites!

My third favorite is the bear.

I just love baby cheetahs. They’re so cute!

I just love baby lions, and I like that they are called a pride.

And I learned that tigers slowly creep and they go almost down to their belly and then they POUNCE!

This book is about baby animals. All of the babies are mammals, which means they drink their mother's milk. Two animals have to be carried by their mothers: kangaroos and monkeys can't walk by themselves; other animals can walk soon after they are born, however. Animal mothers have to keep their babies clean so they will stay healthy. Babies learn to listen to their mothers to stay safe and to grow up. Wonderful pictures and quite a bit of information are presented in this little book.
