Joseph Townsend never planned to live a life of domestic bliss with anyone, let alone a spoiled and vain young man some thirteen years his junior, but there he is, happily domiciled with Michael Mosse in what was once a Victorian Stationmaster’s house. However, the domestic waters suffer disturbance when it becomes clear that Michael has something on his mind.

The modern day Station Master and Michael’s Top, Joseph, is keen to know what it is. His attractive partner has a convoluted way of thinking, which usually doesn’t bode well either for himself or the people around him.

Michael finally confesses to having problems with a deadline at work. He’s been set a design project that he’s less than happy about. He feels he ought to have been given a more prestigious job by his boss, Tom, Joseph’s brother. He wants Joseph to intervene on his behalf.

Joseph refuses and issues a warning. Michael is to set aside resentment and meet the deadline properly or find himself in trouble, not only at work but at home.

An unexpected visitor to the kitchen of the Station house, a wild red fox, claims Michael’s attention and serves to distract him further from the task in hand. Joseph isn’t pleased. To begin with he isn’t an admirer of foxes.

As things turn out the fox sets Michael towards the meeting of another long overdue deadline.

My pseudonyms: Cat, Fabian Black, Tarn Swan, Gumbie Tales, Nowell Cowardice, Mystic Mog, Skoda.

Fabian Black writes D/s fiction, but with her own unique stamp. There are no dungeons and chains here or any of the usual leather and whip scenarios associated with power exchange fiction. She shows another aspect of the Dom/sub dynamic, weaving beautiful warm hearted, sensitive stories full of emotion, wit and romance all spiced with a little spanking. Stories that will engage, entertain and sometimes surprise you. Have tissues on stand by.

For the record she is a female author located in the UK. She is a keen advocate of GLBT rights and gay marriage.

This is an epic brat fic. I think most of this author's books had brats but Micheal takes it to a whole new level. I'm honestly surprise the boy is ever able to sit down considering his behavior and the fact he doesn't really learn from his mistakes. Joesph and Michael have a good chemistry throughout the book and I got a good feeling of where both characters were coming from with their actions. The end of the story all of the small tidbits of information and weird actions on Michael's part become clear although I do think having Joesph info dump it lacked a lot of emotions and impact. The only other thing I was rather disappointed on was the fact Michael really doesn't learn anything and really isn't to repentant.

Actually more a 4.5 star rating, but we all know that's not possible...

First of all let me just say: Wow! Did this one have a surprise in it's tail. And because I refuse to give away anything at all, that's all I'm saying on this score. But be assured there is a lot more to this story than first meets the eye.

This book is not a beginning romance or relationship. Neither is it a firmly established, old one either. Joseph and Michael have moved in together and working their way through the earlish stages of a domestic discipline relationship. Michael is a brat, at times taken to nearly the extreme. During the story it is made clear that he was very spoilt as a child and this is definitely evident in his behaviour. Joseph, his Top is slighty older and is fantastic in the way he handles him.

Their relationship is very interesting and does need to be read in the context of a D/D relationship. Both men are beautifully detailed and the chemistry between them is fantastic. The story telling, while it might seem a little odd or disjointed, leaves you wondering until at the end it all comes together in an exquisitely crafted book.

I totally get why dominant men might want pretty, young and spoiled brats. But I don't want to read about their tantrums and how some misguided dominant tries to do what a couple of parents should have done years ago. The book got better at the last couple of pages but that was too late to save the story for me. This is definitely the last book by Fabian Black I'll ever buy.

I am sorry if I don't do this correctly. I do not usually right reviews, I simply express my feelings.

For me this book was tough to get through at first. It was boring and confusing and irritating. However after first 40 or so pages, even though I was extremely annoyed with the main characters, I was completely drawn into the plot.

After finishing the book I've discovered that reading it was like listening to an orchestra right before a concert or an opera. Each instrument (character) carries its own tune, but they are out of sync, a cacophony. Then sounds pause and the noise settles. And then, by the magic of a conductor's wand, everyone takes a deep breath and all stray tunes suddenly fall into place, playing perfectly in sync and making sense.

About two thirds into the book you get an explanation to Michael's antics and, amazingly, all irrational irritating details start pulling together, presenting the whole picture on a larger scale. The scattered pieces fit and everything makes sense.

The only problem for me was a dialog. Every once in a while I would roll my eyes - do people ever talk like that to each other? **snickers**

Four and a half stars from me :)

(English is not my native language, so - sorry about lapses and grammar ;) )

3.5 stars. I was fascinated by the multi layered dynamics of this story and the way it was allowed to gradually unfold. Some of the soliloquies were a little unnecessary though. As for Michael's parents, I'm very glad that we didn't really see much of them because it think that would have had spent all my time wanting to throttle them for the damage they did to their child.
I also found it refreshing to find a Domestic Discipline story that didn't make the whole concept focus on the sexual aspects rather than the mechanics of loving control.
I found the whole fox symbolism to be rather trite and a weak point when compared to the rest of the story's complexities. Still it was a useful device to demonstrate Michael's inability to make sensible choices.
Overall, I enjoyed this book a look forward to reading more of the author's work.

Lots of fun but with a surprisingly moving subtext, which is slowly revealed in just the right measure. The usual witty characters, fetishes, punishments, humor and tenderness that pervade and typify most of Fabian Black’s work. Michael has to be one of her most endearing subs and his plight touched me deeply. Not for every taste but for me, a parfait.
