Facebooking Rick Springfield

Rate this book
Am I the best, most knowledgeable Rick Springfield fan out there? I’ll be No. Not really. I do not know all the gritty details of his life the way that some fans do. But what I lack in messy specifics, I like to think that I make up for with enthusiasm. Look, should I win the lottery, I’d probably follow him around on tour and plaster my house with expensive memorabilia. And obviously my ass would be on that Rick Springfield Cruise every November. But until then, the advantage of being a writer is that I have a decent imagination, and my fantasy Rick life placates my need for, you know, actual encounters with the cherished one. I’m pretty content to worship him from afar. So here is a collection of blogs that I’ve done (now expanded), most of which have a focus on the most charming rock god of all, Rick Springfield. The few that are not entirely Rick-centered are still funny, but less insane.

Just like Jessica Park’s What the Kid Says and What the Kid Says 2, Facebooking Rick Springfield is a very entertaining short read. Park has a gift of recording various events in her everyday life and finding both humor and wisdom in them.

This little collection of Park’s writings isn’t very long, but it’ll bring a smile to readers’ faces at the end of a long day. We all need that sometimes. The title piece is a hilarious look into a music fan’s obsession with Mr. Springfield. Following this is an account of how difficult it is to “survive” a power outage a world where electricity is taken for granted all too often. This book is filled with what can be taken as comedic writing, but throughout it there is the underlying idea that this is still an author writing about her life. The reader gets a glimpse into how one writer takes on the world and can use it for influence in her writing. I like how that these little non-fiction collections from Park help show that writers are just like everyone else and have to deal with every day annoyances. It brings a sense of reality to how one can look at books.

Short and sweet but also very funny. Love how Rick seems to have influenced "Flat Finn" of Flat-Out Love with the Flat Rick that Jessica and her friend shared.

Very well written and witty, as well as showcasing Jessica Park's erm, "uniqueness" ;-)

I've read the Gourmet Girl series that Jessica co-authored with her mother and enjoyed them. Then I found this- how could I resist an author who loves Rick Springfield as much as I do?!?
