It's a look at cheaper horror films from AIP and indie studios from the years of 1956-59. It has a lot of nice black and white photos of the films and has a play by play write up of the films that can sometimes be hard to follow. Does have some background info of each film, which is interesting.

Recommended, overall I enjoyed reliving most of the films since I've seen most of them. The rundown of the films could definitely be better, but this is such a niche book that I still enjoyed my time with it.

I bought this book well over a decade ago after a good friend of mine had introduced to me a bunch of good horror movies. I wanted more information, so I went to the book store and picked this book since I couldn't find the book I was actually looking for. I finally read this one, and it was rather disappointing. Most of the information on each film consisted of a poorly written, blow-by-blow description of the plot, with the more interesting analysis and history of the film and its making limited to a few paragraphs at the end. The book also doesn't stand up well as a reference, since it is not even remotely comprehensive.
For an example of a well written book on film try "Book of the Dead: The Complete History of Zombie Cinema" by Jamie Russell instead.
