This book captures the true essence of obscure Hollywood horror and science fiction movies of the 1950's. Worth examines fifty of the most obscure anti WORST Hollywood movies ever made, with emphasis on production history and director/producer/star biographical information.
It's a look at cheaper horror films from AIP and indie studios from the years of 1956-59. It has a lot of nice black and white photos of the films and has a play by play write up of the films that can sometimes be hard to follow. Does have some background info of each film, which is interesting.
Recommended, overall I enjoyed reliving most of the films since I've seen most of them. The rundown of the films could definitely be better, but this is such a niche book that I still enjoyed my time with it.
I bought this book well over a decade ago after a good friend of mine had introduced to me a bunch of good horror movies. I wanted more information, so I went to the book store and picked this book since I couldn't find the book I was actually looking for. I finally read this one, and it was rather disappointing. Most of the information on each film consisted of a poorly written, blow-by-blow description of the plot, with the more interesting analysis and history of the film and its making limited to a few paragraphs at the end. The book also doesn't stand up well as a reference, since it is not even remotely comprehensive. For an example of a well written book on film try "Book of the Dead: The Complete History of Zombie Cinema" by Jamie Russell instead.
