Margaret Way was born and educated in the river city of Brisbane, Australia. Before her marriage she was a well-known pianist, teacher, vocal coach and accompanist, but her hectic musical career came to a halt when her son was born and the demands of motherhood dictated a change of pace.

On a fortuitous impulse she decided to try her hand at romance writing and was thrilled when Mills & Boon accepted her first effort, Time of the Jacaranda, which they published less than a year later in 1970; a feat that brought tears to her father's eyes. Some seventy odd books have followed resulting in a loyal readership whose letters provide a source of support and encouragement. A driving force in all her writing has been the promotion of her much loved country, Australia. She delights in bringing it alive for her readers; its people, way of life, environment, flora and fauna. Her efforts so far have not excited official recognition, but she expects one day she will be awarded the "Order of Australia."

Her interests remain with the arts. She still plays the piano seriously, but her "top Cs" have gone. She is still addicted to collecting antiques and paintings and browsing through galleries. She now lives within sight and sound of beautiful Moreton Bay and its islands, inspiration for some of her books. Her house is full of books, spectacular plants, Chinese screens and pots. She is devoted to her garden and spends much time "directing the design and digging and providing cold drinks and chocolates."

Geez Louise, Margaret Way was in one helluva a bad mood when she wrote this one. It’s like the Twelve Days of a Romance Gone Bad.

On the first day, a pigheaded slutshaming hero that still lusts after the heroine

On the second day, a vapid heroine with MAJOR Daddy issues and no pride that lusts after the hero

On the third day, the suicide of the foreman to cement the idea that women and romance (and the foreman) are dead

On the fourth day, the hero and heroine maybe have sex and maybe bury the emotional Hatchett

On the fifth day, Sally the now married ex-fiance from H-E-L-L with serious rage issues comes to the ranch to humiliate her husband, stalk the hero and murder eliminate the heroine

On the sixth day, Sally and a wine glass missile stain the heroine’s dress

On the seventh day, Sally and a Meissen swan missile almost eliminate the H’s mother

Lighting a candle for poor Nick, the humiliated and scorned husband of whackadoodle Sally. Get thee a new heroine, Nick!

On the eighth day, THE UNREAD LETTERS, THE UNREAD LETTERS, THE UNREAD LETTERS. OMG for effing’s sake!

On the ninth day, how the H and h throw all problems under the carpet then have more off page sex which is SO AMAZING apparently.....

On the tenth day, the death of one of the few nice characters

On the eleventh day, me shaking my head at all the dropped threads

And so forth

One big cast iron skillet: STAT! I don’t know who is more nauseating and annoying: the hero who monologues about the heroine’s lovers that he just knows she had, or the heroine who is so lacking in pride that she grovels to no avail, stalks him then goes back to his great big Outback ranch to see his parents that know he loves her. Ms. Way, you are better than this!

Neither H or h was remotely engaging or interesting except for when they said they were. The Australia's Most Eligible Bachelor's evil father and evil stepmother’s ghosts and influence is discussed, but no real revelations are made.

The most interesting characters are the OTT and out of control Sally aka ex-fiance that attacks the heroine verbally and physically not once but twice while the bland dumb bunny heroine reacts calmly and with ladylike aplomb to her vitriol. Twice! Barf.

Enjoyed reading this short romance novel. It had a bit of a plot twist I wasn't expecting. I couldn't put it down. I highly recommend it.
