In this collection, Horrid Henry makes sure he gets the presents he wants for Christmas, sabotages the school sports, day, runs away from home, and thinks of a brilliant way to get rich quick - by selling off his little brother!
Francesca Simon grew up in California and attended both Yale and Oxford Universities, where she specialised in Medieval Studies. How this prepared her to write children’s books she cannot imagine, but it did give her a thorough grounding in alliteration.
She then threw away a lucrative career as a medievalist and worked as a freelance journalist, writing for the Sunday Times, Guardian, Mail on Sunday, Telegraph, and Vogue (US). After her son Joshua was born in 1989, she started writing children’s books full time. One of the UK’s best-selling children’s writers, Francesca has published over 50 books, including the immensely popular HORRID HENRY series, which has now sold over twelve million copies.
Francesca won the Children’s Book of the Year in 2008 at the British Book Awards for Horrid Henry and the Abominable Snowman. HORRID HENRY is published in 24 countries and is also an animated CITV series. She lives in London with her husband, son, and Tibetan Spaniel, Shanti.
Found this in my car I think a kid left it there. The fact that this is marketed to kids baffles me. Horrid Henry is a child who is fed up with his measly weekly allowance and decides to sell the "useless items" in his home in some sort of garage sale. Normal enough right? You'd think so. But Horrid Henry is HORRID. He sells his little brother Peter as a slave (his words, not mine) to the bratty neighborhood girl Margaret. And Margaret is cruel. In the span of a day Peter has done a hundred or so chores. He is described as a slave multiple times throughout the book. It was insane and my jaw was dropped. Later when Henry gets in trouble for SELLING his little brother he goes back to Margaret and HAGGLES to get his brother back for the cheapest price. This fifteen page book sure packed a punch. If anybody wants to experience the whiplash I got from this book please be my guest and borrow it. My goodness.

Henry raamatud toovad lugemiseni ilmselt mõnedki algklasside lapsed, kes muidu lugeda ei tahaks, aga no käitumise õppetundide mõttes on see ikka väga küsitav raamat.
A fantastic book, including four short stories, to share with primary school children or for them to read alone. The stories are funny and relatable, with fantastic illustrations. The antics of Horrid Henry are hilarious; from where he attempts to sell his brother as a slave in Horrid Henry Gets Rich Quick, to swapping the labels on the Christmas presents so that he gets all the best gifts in Horrid Henry's Christmas.
Yes - I re read a book I loved as a child, I’m not ashamed at all, I was sorting my bookshelf out and found all my old horrid henry books and I thought I’d read one or two just for the happy memories and enjoyment I got out of them as a kid, Horrid Henry was probably the first book I ever read & it definitely started my love for reading, I still think they’re just as good as when I was a kid✨
Trying to try out all the books that my Year 3 class loved for my new Year 3 squirrel class! I do love Horrid Henry and I think the children also are so attractive to the title and mischief of it! If it gets them reading I’m happy to put it in the class.
Oh my, Henry really is horrid isn't it? His get rich quick scheme includes selling his annoying brother which I'm sure many children will find deliciously entertaining! A short, entertaining chapter book for emerging readers (6-9)
