This is a charming book, packed with photos and facts. We learn about early golf in Scotland and Holland, then in Ireland where it was first recorded in Wicklow. The story continues to the date of publishing. Women get a mention before page 10, and a chapter to themselves. This includes notable players and fashion plates. I see that unlike the early days of showjumping, it was quite normal to see a Mrs. playing golf. The courses are great stars of this book, gorgeous photos and some with big names in hot competition. There is a page of odd facts, like a ball being found in the pocket of someone in the crowd who hadn't noticed it land, and a ball landing in the ear of a poor donkey. I know little about golf but I enjoyed the read.
